When I see reviews like this I am amazed that no one points out the flaw in some of the testing. A down draft cooler in a traditional tower case will ALWAYS perform below expectations as the sir flow pattern of the cooler is at a right angle to the air flow pattern of the case. Use a down draft cooler in a case like an NR200 with a grilled side panel and it's cooling potential comes up significantly.
I’m pleasantly surprised to have found a video for the exact specific set of components I was looking at, thank you! Planning on upgrading my 5600x to a 5700x3d and moving to a mini it’s case, and wanted to know if the stock cooler that came with my 5600x would be good enough or if I should go with an aio
Peerless Assassin handles my 13700KF just fine, at full 253W bore. No need for anything more, especially for gaming. Just ordered another for a 7500F build lol. Definitely overkill for that chip. Would've got the Burst if id known about it.
Earned my sub today. For the past year or so I've been building budget to mid-level gaming PCs for a hobby/side hustle. Started using and tinkering with computers before Windows, but far from an "expert." I've owned every one of these coolers and both the CPUs too (several 5600x and currently on 5700x3d for my personal rig). Although not highly scientific (accurate enough for general knowledge.) I found nearly the exact same results in my own testing/use, and I think this is a very valuable video for the average consumer looking to build a value AM4 build. For about 3 years I was using a 5600x (prebuilt that I couldn't beat for the price during 2020s GPU prices), on a stock cooler, with a rx6800 in a slightly better than average airflow case with roughly the same setup here. (4-120mm fans same set up, but unimpeded front mesh.) It was a little hot when under full load but never throttled until my cooler started to get a little dirty... (only throttled in testing it at full load never while gaming, but it did run hotter) I then rebuilt into a Lian li 216 case with really good air flow at fist with the another 5600x, but only for a few months because half of the point of rebuilding was to upgrade to something better to pair with the rx6800 and a motherboard that could handle it. I've got little to say about the stock cooler... does the job. not really worth upgrading on the 5600x and handles the non "X" with ease. Definitely wouldn't try it on 5700x3d though... I'm pleased to see that it "could" work, but I don't like it in the long run. I couldn't say I tried anything other than AIOs on 5700x3d but the two I've used are overkill. Although I've never paired it with the peerless assassin, I used that on an even hotter chip and was very impressed with it... almost keeping up with a cheap 240mm AIO. I'd go with that for a budget cooler for the 5700X3d but know there are other high end air coolers on the market although you may want to consider a liquid cooler if you're spending too much more. For the 5600x I honestly wouldn't bother "upgrading" to anything other than the cheaper assassin or above, but the cheaper ID cooler and that level of cooler would work just fine for it too if you needed to "replace" it or you bought it without the stock cooler. A side point for anyone reading is that upgrade, for me, only slightly improved lows in gaming at 2k Ultra-wide and absolutely not worth the current price difference for all but the extremely rare use cases in my opinion. (Most use cases should move up to AM5 3d or highly tuned Intel in those situations) Don't get me wrong I have no problems with the 5700x3d, but I noticed a bigger difference between 16Gb and 32Gb of ram in gaming at my rig's resolution. Likely noticeable at 2k and where you'll see the difference is 1080p. The reality is only certain types of gamers will run this level of GPU or higher in 1080p and they already know what they want. I went on there... lol.. oh well.. enjoy.
Hi, I am looking at an upgrade from a 3600 to either a 5600x or a 5700x3d. Main use case is 2k or 4k gaming. Would you say the 5700x3d is not worth the extra price (double the cost in the UK) with those parameters? Thanks man
Nice video!👍👏I tested the amd stock coolers a lot, and with finetuning they are ok for general and desktop use. But they all suck kinda😄 in particular the Ryzen 2700x back then was super annoying with stock coolers. Any cheap after market did a much better job. Back then i used a gammaxx cooler for less than 18 Euro. Thermalright seems to get applauded by everyone, so glad you showed two of them😆
I have a 5600x with the stock cooler and it’s pretty decent if you want to save some money. I have a max of 87-88 at max usage so it’s pretty okay for now!
I had a wraith prism that came with my original ryzen 2700X that was very good at keeping the 5600X cool when I upgraded to it and these can be found very cheap 2nd hand as many people never used them. When I later got a 5800X3D though the prism was not good enough and I upgraded to a peerless assassin.
I have the Assassin X120 Refined SE for my 5700X3d and I barely see that cpu touch 60C it hovers around 56-59C . Really efficient chip, I got it for 139 bucks on aliexpress and have it paired with a RTX 4060
I been using the AK400 with my 5700x3d and it's just fine... Had the AK400 on a 5600x and it was more than plenty for me. The stock heatsink was not hence why I got the the AK400.
I bought my Deepcool AK620 when it came out for $40 at microcenter.I have it on my 5800x3d. Peak temps I’ve seen around 55 degrees. Using thermal grizzly kryonaut and fans 100% all the time. They still silent at full speed. Sad they banned now.
I run the 5600x with an MSI MAG Core Liquid 240R V2 AIO. My GPU is the Radeon RX 6750 XT. And, it's so contained in the MSI MPG GUNGNIR 120R Mid-Tower (which came stock with 4 fans). Only 32 gigs of ram. I can run cyberpunk at near ultra settings without any issues. My monitor is an lg ultragear at 144hz. For context; this was my first ever build. I built it about 4 months ago, for about 1800 CAD. Should i upgrade that CPU? Can i keep everything else.. Or will i bottleneck?
Not everyone agrees about Montech Air 100's airflow. Montech XR or Air Base 903 and Air 903 Max are superior choices. While Max has 4 vs 3 Base fans, supposedly isn't much better than Base model.

this is one of the best videoes that show cpu cooler tier scaling

Thermalright peerless assassin and phantom spirit can cool even a 14th gen intel or 9000 series ryzen.
9000 series ryzen have lower tdp than 7000

Even so, they are more than fine for something like 7800X3D

Love this style of video, maybe you can try doing a budget CPU cooler roundup.
Great video, straight to the point, thank you!
great video dude. very helpful
I have the stock cooler that came with my 5600x and I play Baldur’s Gate for hours and it works like a charm. I am using a 6750 for a GPU.
Great video 👍
Competition is great with different brands making low profile, single, dual tower air coolers more affordable.

Correction I don't go above 54 C but I don't think the 4060 is stressing it out at all so maybe a beefier GPU will pull more heat out of it.
Is this the dual fan version?
i have a burst assassin on a 5600x and it is super good

Also running a -15 curve. Memory clocked to 3600c14 4x8

I have the hyper 212 black, and am getting. 5700x3dbsoon, will that be enough or do I need a stronger cooler for 1440p gaming?
so procecor temperature can effect the gpu temp too ?
yes, more heat in the pc means hotter air on the gpu. on paper air coolers can only make things as cold as the air around them
Were you doing #2 when you recorded yourself?
Some people are so ignorant that they will pair Ryzen 3600 with 200+ USD.
I dunno if I should laugh or cry in such situations.
Probably just facepalm
