STAYC's 'Not Like You' falls more into the genre teen pop considering its strong vocals and catchy hooks. The verses employ a more electronic soundscape similar to that of future bass rather than afrobeats. AFROBEATS on the other hand relies on heavy drum patterns especially the talking drum which does not appear on this song and influences from genres such as funk and soul. Listen to ANY afrobeats song by a actual afrobeats artist it doesn't sound like this.
@@ad0re_xo youre confusing afrobeats with afroBEAT. taken from wikipedia: Afrobeats (with the s) is commonly conflated with and referred to as Afrobeat (without the s); however, these are two distinct and different sounds and are not the same. Afrobeat is a genre that developed in the 1960s and 1970s, taking influences from Fuji music and highlife, mixed in with American jazz and funk. Characteristics of Afrobeat include big bands, long instrumental solos, and complex jazzy rhythms. The name was coined by Nigerian afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. Fela Kuti and his longtime partner, drummer Tony Allen, are often credited for laying the groundwork for what would become afrobeats. This is in contrast to the afrobeats sound, pioneered in the 2000s and 2010s. While afrobeats takes on influences from Afrobeat, it is a diverse fusion of various different genres such as British house music, hiplife, hip hop, dancehall, soca, Jùjú music, highlife, R&B, ndombolo, Naija beats, Azonto, and palm-wine music. Unlike Afrobeat, which is a clearly defined genre, afrobeats is more of an overarching term for contemporary West African pop music. The term was created in order to package these various sounds into a more easily accessible label, which were unfamiliar to the UK listeners where the term was first coined. Another, more subtle contrast between the two sounds, is that while Fela Kuti used his music to discuss and criticise contemporary politics, afrobeats typically avoids such topics, thereby making it less politically charged than afrobeat. and if wikipedia isn't "reliable" enough for you, heres an excerpt from professionals published by spotify. "Afrobeats, a term that was only really first used around 2011, draws from a broader range of influences and subject matter. However, Fela's [referring to Fela Kuti] international success in the 1970s, and his influence on the art of global creators like Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z, have provided a frame of reference for the subsequent success of Afrobeats." alongside this, a survey provided on spotify's website says that afrobeats is "mostly defined by the rhythm and the beat", making Not Like You and objectively afrobeats-genre song. in case that wasn't enough for you, here are some "actual songs by actual afrobeats artists" that are WIDELY considered afrobeats, not just by me. Jump - Tyla, Gunna, Skillibeng What A Life - Eony Water - Tyla soso - Omah Lay Calm Down - Rema, Selena Gomez Bad Vibes - Ayra Starr, Seyi Vibez these examples and plenty more are VERY similar in production to Not Like You. again i believe you are confusing afrobeat (a different genre) with afrobeatS.

nope just a lot of learning and now i can do it by ear!
I didn't understand the Brazilian Bass one haha. I'm brazilian and I didn't recognized anything in Taemin Want🫣
it originated in the early 2000s in brazil and isn't in popular music anywhere, its close to tech house so you'd only really hear it in clubs and whatnot lol :)
someone know the genre of unlock by jhope?
synth funk :)
does anyone knows more darksynth songs?
the only other kpop one i have down is super board by skz!
@@taemteezoh I love that song! Thank you!

I didn't expect My country (Philippines) genre "Manila Sound" is the Genre of Sunmi "Pporappippam" 😮 This is so unexpected though
yeah!! manila sound is a fusion of disco and pop rock that originated in metro manila in the 70s :)
what genre is attitude by fromis9? I've seen people calling it brazilian bass but I don't really think it is
ive a question wouldnt momolands bboom x2 be bounce and same with t-ara number nine count towwards melbourne bounce cuz i didnt see u included bounce music as a genre
i didn't include it because it's hard to differentiate between romanian popcorn (the genre) and bounce music! number nine is definitely melbourne bounce tho
@@taemteez ahh that makes sense !! oke oke fair enoughh!! thanks for the clarfication
you forgot cyberpunk - cyberpunk by ateez
its actually synthwave and midtempo bass!
@@taemteez ah ok
Dreamcatcher alone would have covered half of the genres!
You should've find a metal band and ad them or hardrock xD
Bro rai mentionned
that skz song is not cloud rap, magnetic has pluggnb elements but its not pluggnb, its house
i would really encourage you to listen to the entire song before judging it as "not cloud rap" or define what you think cloud rap is. magnetic i def would have agreed a year ago but pluggnb has expanded a lot and magnetic is pretty close to the pluggnb i hear from producers on youtube. definitely appreciate the comment tho
wait why did u delete red velvet’s video? 😭
it was a while ago but i had to delete all the discography vids because of copyright :(
Taemin mentioned
Great video as always 👍🏽

What in the heck is blog house?
its a style of house music that originated on blogs (hence the name) such as myspace back in the late 2000s and early 2010s!
@@taemteez thank you!
Why are your pronouns relevant in this video?
what does this even mean lol??
Not like you is NOT afrobeats yall need too STOP calling everything with a funky beat afrobeats
thanks for the very kind comment! i would LOVE to hear your definition of afrobeats because im sure you know everything
@@ad0re_xo youre confusing afrobeats with afroBEAT. taken from wikipedia:
Afrobeats (with the s) is commonly conflated with and referred to as Afrobeat (without the s); however, these are two distinct and different sounds and are not the same.
However, Fela's [referring to Fela Kuti] international success in the 1970s, and his influence on the art of global creators like Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z, have provided a frame of reference for the subsequent success of Afrobeats."
alongside this, a survey provided on spotify's website says that afrobeats is "mostly defined by the rhythm and the beat", making Not Like You and objectively afrobeats-genre song.
in case that wasn't enough for you, here are some "actual songs by actual afrobeats artists" that are WIDELY considered afrobeats, not just by me.
Jump - Tyla, Gunna, Skillibeng
What A Life - Eony
Water - Tyla
soso - Omah Lay
Calm Down - Rema, Selena Gomez
Bad Vibes - Ayra Starr, Seyi Vibez
these examples and plenty more are VERY similar in production to Not Like You. again i believe you are confusing afrobeat (a different genre) with afrobeatS.
@@taemteez ngl you kinda ate me up there
@@ad0re_xo thank you LOL sorry for the passive aggressiveness earlier
dreamcatcher mentioned !!!! but u missed the chance to put their song 'no more' for metal genre :)
