@@seg162 weird. I remember for sure that certain demons always responded well to certain answers, and then I'd just pop them a life stone or two and deny them until they joined. It's been a bit, so that process might be off
In Persona 2 there are 4 contact stats: Happy, Eager, Angry and Scared. Each demon has a personality, so the choices you make when talking to a demon may cause him gets more happy, eager, angry o scared. If a demon gets too angry he will stop talking and you will lose the turn, if gets very happy he will render you an item, if gets too scared he will run away and if gets too eager he will give you a bunch of cards that you can use to summon demons.

But for the old games (P1 - P2), they are mostly in the darker and weird sides but it has some pinch of stereotypical anime aspects to it. But if you want a non stereotypical Anime game then play the SMT Games, especially SMT Nocturne or Digital Devil Saga. TBH for me, I love most of the megaten games, I love Persona 1 - 5, Devil summoner, Devil Survivor, the mainline series and many more. I recommend you to play persona, if you are interested in it's gamestyle or the mainline series.

Actually it's based in the original SMT games. Again, Persona is just a spinoff.
In p5 you understand personalities, in p2 you deal with that chart, in SMT it's mostly random and they ask you for things
