      @@romanvalente2871 Yes, but what does he have that doesn’t sound like a guy just trying to do SRV? I don’t hear any Phil anywhere. I just hear a parrot. I don’t get people being praised for being a copy. I hear a lot of Albert Collins in Greg Koch’s playing for example. Hell, he flat quotes his licks sometimes but he is not a copy of him. He still does something different and personal while hinting at Albert and Jimi. That is the difference.

    He's amazing I must admit. I like his Texas Blues tone and the bright glassy sound kind of like SRV style but diffenent in a lot of ways. I'm style looking for an artist that has more of Jimi's tone and tasty guitar riffs and oh the bends dont get me started on the sweet boomer bends. I like the slower methodical and rhythmic playing over the straight shred.

    I quit the Guitarist A is better than Guitarist B because……. So many years ago, like kindergarten, I think. Everyone has their favorites for personal reasons and there comes along a player that both sides agree he/she is good or sux. I personally like Philip Sayce. Solid blues player who can rock with the best of ‘em. Can play for speed but also has some very tasty solos to boot. There’s a non confrontational reason why I like the guy. As for PS vs. SRV, I’ve played guitar for upwards of 55 years now. Been on the road, studio, even played a stage that had chicken wire up in front of it. They are 2 different animals, 2 different DNA matches. They both bring different licks, but that’s just my opinion. 😎🤘

    • @gianlucavankery
      @gianlucavankery  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      SRV's influence can definitely be felt in PS but they are certainly two different players!

    • @thomaskinne2357
      @thomaskinne2357 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Questions being, without SRV, or more importantly Jimi, would this guy be playing like he does? That's why I've never had respect for Mayer. Yeah, he sure is very good & successful & good for him. But man, there are plenty of us who if we had spent much of our time learning to play like SRV? We'd probably sound like him too. Personally, it's more about writing man. Not spending so much time, learning some one else's chops.

    • @thomaskinne2357
      @thomaskinne2357 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      & again, just an opinion. I'm not trying to be right, about anything.

    • @yargnad
      @yargnad 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thomaskinne2357Ironically, you've stated it's about _writing_ in regards one of the more prolific and successful songwriters of his generation. John Mayer is more than accomplished in that dept as well.
      Slow Dancing is one of the most covered, and overplayed, guitar riffs out there - almost to the point of being universally annoying the way Stairway had become by the 80s/90s. Every new guitarist learns it and it has inspired the next wave of players more than Zep or Hendrix have.

    Fast redundancy sounds impressive but NO where NEAR a great guitar solo. This guy has no soul, no catch, no bite like a true legend like SRV and so many others had/have. Solos are more than hammering fast licks, they are melodic in their essence (fast or slow) and scratch an itch to the ear. He scratches a chalkboard to me.

      This is not an especially good example of his playing.

      I so thoroughly disagree with you. Dude makes the hair on my arms stand up with his playing

      technique and heart! he has a very mature phrasing and when needed he can be a great repeater, he is one of the great guitarists! srv is unique but this man is really strong!

      I would argue this guy plays circles around SRV. Many of his licks are SRV's but at such a speed you can't keep up with it. This guy used to play with Jeff Healy in his younger days. He plays slow and soulful plenty of times but his solos usually go into a frenzy. It is not for everyone and I do wish he would savor the notes more often but there's no denying his prowess.

    Maybe good, but not original at all. Stole Stevie’s tone, don’t get it. Get your own.

      SRV stole Jimi's tone. He should've gotten his own...what a poser.
