If it helps, there's a few plastics that can be fused back together using acetone, instead of glue, it effectively dissolves the shallow surface and then re-sets as the acetone evaporates. When it's the right plastic it can be extremely effective and look better.

LOL, that was the Marty I was bidding one... Good get! The Car marty is basically a FM towns. There are screens, the drive that you have, anttenas, looks like you might have most of the cables. @@scottbogfoot nah no need. It's just the two corners which should be easy to reattach. If I replace the front with a 3d printed one it won't be original

Whatever u do, do not increase the lazer. So many people fall for this myth bodge job, which eventually kills the laser. Change the caps for correct high-quality automobile onrs instead.
The plan is to get the Car Marty recapped anyway. I know a guy who's done a few of them in the past and was able to revive them. It seems mine can read the disks it just gets stuck on the splash screen for whatever reason. It can't even boot the software from the navigation card. The Panasonic Q and PSX work fine so they shouldn't need anything at least for a few more years
@RetroZero64 could be a dirty lens or the caps. They provide the necessary power to run everything. The trouble with fm towns is that they were very, very infrequently used. And that even brand new caps will need to be reformed if not frequently used. You reform caps by applying power to it. So a frequently used device is sometimes better than buying one brand new never used. I fixed a car marty that just kept on spitting out disk simply by just leaving it running for a few hours over the course of a week. After a few sessions, it stopped spitting out disks, and then after a few days, it began to read disks fine, and after a week, i could not flaw it. I mean, ask yourself, why aren't other cd roms in other systems notoriously bad?? In all my cars, my head units were the last thing that wasn't faulty! Just warning to NOT adjust the lazer diode. All that does is compensate the power. Now imagine when that power is restored? You fry your diode.
Yeah I know not to adjust the laser. I'm just saying I don't think the problem has anything to do with the disk drive. It gets stuck on the splash screen and doesn't even go into that spinning ball intro like it's supposed to. When putting a disk in. I hear it spin up for a bit and it doesn't spit it back out. It just does nothing. Unless I'm missing something, it seems it's issue goes deeper than just the CD drive
@RetroZero64 theory of operation is that the cd is loaded in, the system reads the disk, the data then is fed to the cpu and it excecutes the code. If there is not enough power to drive the cd mechanism in anyway due to mechanical or electrical issues nothing will happen. There are many surface mounts and also non electrolytic capacitors that is responsible for driving the cd rom. People overlook those ones. Especially the smt mounted ones. I doubt its anything to do with the main board as it boots which means ram rom and cpu and gpu are all working fine
@@monstermug yes but doesn't the Marty and car Marty still go to the spinning ball logo and menu with no disk loaded at all? Even with nothing inserted it does nothing. If you want to join my discord I can show you what happens with it.
