The Marathahalli police have arrested a 52-year-old owner of a paying guest accommodation, along with two others, for allegedly murdering the cook who was his employee. The victim is said to have asked for a week’s leave to visit his hometown.
Rami Reddy, who runs a PG accommodation in Kadubisanahalli, allegedly strangled the cook, Murali, last Wednesday and burnt his body in the outskirts of the city. His friend Mahesh Reddy, 22, and a tenant of the PG, Vinith, 22, are accused of abetting him. According to the police, Reddy drove back to the site the next day to ensure that he had covered his tracks.
The Marathahalli police, who found the charred remains of the body, identified the accused through CCTV footage. Sadiq Pasha, inspector of Marathahalli police station, said CCTV footage showed a car moving suspiciously in the area where the body had been dumped. The same car was caught on camera the next day as well.
The police found traces of petrol used to burn the body and, on a hunch, collected CCTV footage from petrol pumps in the area. They then got clips of the accused purchasing one litre of petrol in a can.
According to the police, Murali was the only cook at Seven Hills PG, which has around 40 guests. The police have booked the trio on the charge of murder and remanded them in judicial custody.
