This is a great refresher for RT's going from adult critical care to NICU! Thank you Jimmy!

Thanks. I love to see how other RTs teach. You are clear with your explanations. I will definitely take some of your techniques back to my staff.

I also used to put stickers on my HFOV and have my cheat sheet written on the side of machine for my dept.

Thx for a quick review. Helped dust off the cobwebs in my brain on set up and settings.

I was setting an oscillator up the other day using what you taught and my clinical coordinator said you are completely wrong. I trained in a real level III NICU and used you as a refresher. We go from adults to NICU each round.

Sorry to hear that your coordinator didn't agree with my setup 😕.

@@rtclinic very annoying having narrow-minded management. I was trained in a level III and taught to setup exactly like your video 😊

So helpful right now. I haven't touched HFOV since school and we are starting to use them again with COVID-19

Great great video!! I recommend a video on IPV! Intrapulmonary Percussive Ventilation.

Peter, I would love to, but I do not have an IPV machine. 🙁

Your Oscillating dial which goes Left to Right was not CENTERED. It was noticeable when power was off. Should we have power be off to CENTER our oscillations

That adjustment is usually done after the all of the pressures and frequency are set. It is also after you place the patient on the device. The real reason for this adjustment is to allow for optimal chest wiggle.

How about a video on weaning from the vent. Different ways of weaning starting anywhere from AC-SIMV-CPAP-TBAR, or AC straight to TBAR trial then back to AC at night. Of course including gases while weaning. Thats a video I'd like to see. It's intersting to see how other Therapists teach their students. So thats A vid Id like to see

Great suggestion. I'm a big fan of the AC to CPAP to Extubate method, but I'll work on something with all options.

Any tips for excessive drift with the mean? It’s something I’ve dealt with since I started NI but last couple of years the drift has been as much more and happens quicker.

    • @rtclinic

Sounds like the seals on your oscillator need to be changed. There is a kit that Biomed can purchase to replace all these items as a PM.
