Who the hell told you that Heracles was the son of Hera? His entire story revolves around Hera making his life miserable because he is yet another one of Zeus' bastard children. That is literally the main theme of his entire story. How is it possible to get that wrong?
@bigzone9704 I know, due to the Disney Movie some people probably believe that Hercules/Heracles is the son of Zeus AND Hera. But claiming he is the son of Hera and NOT Zeus is wild. And claiming this in a video about mythological inaccuracies in pop culture is just ridiculous.
He was super wrong about a lot of stuff in this video. Týr wasn't the one binding Fenrir. In fact, he was very much against the idea of doing it, but the other gods wanted to go ahead anyways. However, Fenrir refused to be bound by the ribbon they had forged solely to keep him bound unless one of them put their arm inside his maw, which Týr reluctantly agreed to do because none of the other gods were brave enough to step up to the task. Týr found Fenrir's imprisonment to be incredibly unjust and dishonorable because the wolf had done nothing to deserve it other than being the one to devour Odin in the prophecy of Ragnarök, and being the god of war and justice, Týr often found Odin's obsession with the prophecies to be a troubling matter as his actions often led him to do terrible stuff, though not nearly as terrible as to what Odin does in the GoW games. That's a whole other can of WTF.
1) heracles isn't the son of hera, that's the part of the reason why he had to complete his labours 2) although he's not on here, baldur is the god of purity and light in the myths and was not insane, he died because of loki tricking his blind brother Hod by shooting him with a mistletoe arrow 3) there are a lot of conflicting stories of whether or not frigg and freya were the same person
Side note, at 3:19 he says that Tyr hasn't lost his arm to Garn (he says fenrir but tomato tomato). However if you do enough runs of Valhalla, he actually mentions regaining his arm that Garn bit off as a way of getting into Valhalla/how he died.
Hera is not Heracles' mother. There are later versions of the Greek myths that say that there is a Chronos who is a Primordial (not to be confused with the Titan), so not "the one and only". Also, all Titans were depicted having regular human size in those ancient Greek jars, not just Chronos (the Titan).
From what I know of the myths (which is a lot) there is not another Cronos besides the titan. You must be referring to his father, Oranos (or Uranus in the Roman version).
@chrisrussell9213 no no the primordial personification of time is named Chronos. Kronos is the Titan of the Harvest and the father of the original Olympian gods however there is alot of evidence that suggest that people were never 100% certain on their separation
Heracles is NOT the Son of Hera! It's an infamous misconception with a certain Disney Movie. In fact, those two hate each other in Greek Mythology, because Hera tricked Heracles into killing his wife and kids. She did this, because Heracles was a result of one of Zeus's many, many, many, many, MANY affairs. Heracles's Mother is actually Alcmene.
I thought 100% that Ragnarok was going to put more focus on the mythylogical deaths of the gods. Thor getting killed by the world serpant, Odin getting killed by Fenrir, and Tyr getting killed by Garm.
Don't forget Atlas. He's supposed to hold up the heavens, but he holds up the Earth as he's often depicted in art, or a celestial globe that is often mistaken for Earth.
Tossing in balder, in myths he was actually well liked and actually a decent person. He also out the invulnerability charm on himself rather than freya
Heracles in the myth is not a child of Hera. He is a son of Zeus, but his mother was mortal. He was a mortal demi-god, with superhuman strength. Hera despised him since Zeus was very unfaithful to her and tried to kill Heracles.
No where was it even hinted that Hercules was the son of hera in GOW3. She never addressed Hercules as such. But she mentioned heaphestus her son created Pandora. So you either confused these characters or you need to go play the game again to get your facts right.
hey mojo, early sources of norse mythology do say that frigg and freya are one in the same. They didn't get this one wrong, they actually got it right if they are following early sources for her character. There is also some debate as to whether or not Garm is the same as Fenrir so that one is certainly debatable.
I honestly don’t understand why they made Zeus so elderly looking in the games because Poseidon and Hera both look either the same age or younger when in the myths Zeus is the youngest of all the children of Cronos and Rhea. Fun fact: Cronos is the youngest of all the titans who are the offspring of Oranos and Gaia.
Hearcules was never a jealous god and became a god and was the god of strength, and not to mention, he hates Hera, who zeus made sure he kept away from.
I don’t think they were trying to be mythically accurate I think they put their own spin on them for dramatic purposes lol. I’m Norse Pagan and I had no issues with any of the Gods they interpreted into their own vision. I love 2018 and Ragnarok and I wish we were getting another game in the Norse saga! My favorite character is Kratos hands down but my favorite character interpretation is Thor and a close runner up is Tyr. Skål 🍻
1:22 Yes. But also no... You would split hairs when there are no hairs to split or when splitting them does more harm than good. Their real names are indeed accurate in the GoW franchise. Eitri *_IS an ALTERNATE NAME_* for Sindri and Brok is just the Anglicized translation of the name Brokkr. 4:55 The wings thing came from him being confused for the similarly named _CHRONOS ...the primordial god of TIME._ Kronus the _Titan_ was the god of agriculture and the especially the harvest - hence the scythe or sickle. Also the GoW franchise made a deliberate delineation of what species or race the celestial beings belonged to when such distinctions simply did NOT exist in the myths. ALL Titans are gods ...not all gods are Titans... 6:00 Others have commented on Hera _NOT_ being Heracles/Hercules' mother, but he also doesn't stay mortal forever. He is allowed to become a full god when his mortal body dies. 7:10 ...I can't help but wonder if they made Odin *_less_* powerful than in the myths. I mean, even the games go to great lengths implying he's spent untold eons studying snd gaining knowledge. And Odin wasn't necessarily a shriveled old man either who depended mostly on magic and deceit to save his skin. He was a formidable warrior and a strong soldier in his own right. 7:48 Correct. Kratos/Cratus was the god of strength and/or authority (it's almost impossible to separate his sphere of influence and duties from that of his sister, Bia. Needless to say there is overlap) of the Titan generation. He also was fiercely loyal to Zeus and the Olympian and betrayed the Titan gods. 7:52 ...Oh and Zeus was never eaten by his father, Kronus. His grandmother, mother and a few aunts cooked up scheme to save him that fate. ...also, the gods (Olympian, Titan and primordial alike) were likely completely immune to the evils trapped within Pandora's "box." Zeus also never had the ability of electrokinesis. He was gifted the "fiery" "thunderbolts" from the Cyclopes... Don't even get me started on how the cyclopes were depicted in the games. 9:24 Ironically, experts now believe Gulvigg (who was a minor boss in GoW 2018) may have been Freya/Frigga getting burned at the stake during the early days of the Aesir/Vanir war, and returning to life/emerging unscathed each time. 10:08 Nope. Laufey is always an Aesir goddess. He even takes her last name. 11:18 ...What you all smoking?
So I'll point out anything they missed to my knowledge. in ragnarok, the huldra brothers claim they made draupnir. Which they did indeed create. However a golden boar they made for asgard has never been mentioned or shown. It wax said to be faster than any horse and was created from gold and was practicallya machine made boar.(it was made around the time draupnir and mjolnir were made due to the story of loki and the hammer) Thor also was supposed to have a special belt and bracers to amplify his strength and lift the hammer as even thor normally had difficulty lifting his hammer. For Týr It was thought fenrir and garm were the same wolf and was destined to be killed by the beast. Chronos was to be the same size as humans. Just like the Olympians and the other titans (except gaia as shes the literal embodiment of the earth so for her shes actually massive.) Heracles was not the child of Hera. He was named in honor of her in hopes to give him good luck. One time he sucked on heras breasts while she slept which was the source of his strength. Hera threw him off and the remaining milk from the sudden removal entered into the stars creating the milky way. In mythology, odin is related to mimir with the sage being odins uncle. Mimir guarded the well of knowledge that was at one of the roots of the world tree. By drinking there daily, Mimir was the smartest god and being alive. Mimir suggested odin sacrifice an eye for a ladle ful of the water. Odin doesnt hesitate and gives up his stellar vision. (Which was why mimir asked for one of his eyes to drink from the well.) Zues is more evil in mythology from knocking up mortals as animals or pther people, he smited others and was overall a big douche. Also he birthed out two children. One from his head which was athena, the other in his leg who became Dionysys if I remember correctly. Freya of the vanir was the one responsible for killing mimir. To settle the peace between asgard and vanaheim, A truce was made by exchanging sn equal amount of god to the other realm to help that realm. Both sides agreed. Vanaheim sent gods to help asgard thrive however vanaheim was given the short stick as a few of the gods they earned were lack luster or worthless. Mimir was the only one of use so to send a message she chops of mimirs head and throws it back to asgard. Which odin reanimates to use his counsel while strapped to his hip. Loki used to be less evil in older stories but as time went by he was twisted to be more demonic in his motives. Loki was also responsible for the following things: creating fenrir, the world serpent, hela, cuts off lady sifs hair which later gives golden woven hair, draupnir, mjolnir, gullenbursti, (the gokden boar but I might of misspelled it)birthed slepnir, njords boat, odins spear, learns baldrs weakness, and starts the timer to ragnarok after giving the mistletoe arrow to his blind brother Hod. Cratus (the closest god to kratos) was not a demigod and was born of nyx and another god that wasn't zeus. Cratus was known as the embodiment of strength and one of Zeus' allies who swore allegiance to zeus quickly once the war on the titans occured. Cratus was responsible for imprisoning prometheus and was someone who caused destruction and havoc under the demands of zues. He even had to tell other gods that hes following orders so blame zues instead of him.

God of War got nothing right in Norse mythology. Two pantheons cannot co-exist. Hel and Hades cannot co-exist. Zeus and Odin cannot co-exist. The inaccuracies can be overlooked because Kratos is just that excellent of a character.
I loved Ragnarok's depiction of Thor. As much as I love the Marvel character, God of War actually brought a much more accurate myth to life.
