The leading edge slats are designed to work at high angles of attack but flaps force the nose down decreasing the angle of attack, I suppose an advantage of having flags on an observation aircraft could be to keep it level inside the cabin, this might make it easier to read maps and that type of thing, there was no GPS back then.

Actually both are true (to an extent). Flaps do produce drag, but then so does any control surface. However, when applied in smaller amounts they actually change the lift coefficient of the wing by giving an 'undercamber' effect. Needing a 'bigger mkotor' just because flaps are used is a misconception. In your example of a glider, look at the wing section and you'll see that it's not flat but undercambered. What slows a glider down are air brakes - flaps increase lift for low speed w/o a stall

Flaps don't prevent wings from stalling, actually they are more likely to make the wings stall unless u add power. putting flaps down is like increasing the angle of attack and that combined with low airspeeds ='s a stalled wing.

Looks like it lands very nice! You can tell so much about the way a planes handles but short final and touch down. Looks like you guys nailed this one!

Which is exactly the point of flaps - lift increases, the stalling speed is lowered - you deploy them to avoid stalling at lower airspeeds. Consider a full size aircraft taking off or landing with flaps. The very LAST thing you need is for a nose-down attitude - you need it to stay UP.
Undercamber is NOT the same as incidence by the way (and what flaps do is to mimic the effcts of undercamber)

Yes that's true the nose comes up when you put flaps down, but to maintain air speed you have to push the nose down and add more power, so you end up in more of a nose down attitude, its similar to adding more incidence to the wing which forces you to push the nose down, try it your self, get one of your models increase the incidence on the wing and you will see that it will fly with more of a nose down attitude.

I think that is a common misconception, because the flaps are inducing drag, because of the extra drag you need a bigger motor and extra fuel then your wing load goes up, its that simple, put flaps on a glider and see how it flies.

Yes I have done 6hrs of training in a 152 Cessna at our local airfield and hundreds of hours on Microsoft flight sim on a Cessna 172.I think from memory we took off with 10% flaps on the 152, I cant remember the exact amount we landed with but it was more than we took of with.

Actually by increasing lift the nose goes up (not down). Look at a control line stunt model where, when you give up elevator, flaps go down (and vice versa). They change the angle of attack (and with that the Cl) and produce more lift

I believe "Storch" is pronounced "Stork" in German. Just like "Reich" (as in Third Reich) is pronounced as if the "ch" is a "k." Other than that, nice video. The Storch is one of my favorite STOL aircraft

Хороший самолёт, а модель -- высший класс!

the skin is a matte finish stuff that feels much thicker and stronger than ultra or monocote- more planes need this type of stuff!

Hope it's better than the STA Ryan in the balsa series Durafly. Not such a good model. This certainly looks great!

If u could slow it down a bit it would look more realistic. nice scale detail all the same.

Flaps r meant for landing, that's why they r called landing flaps.

It is pronounced as Shtorh, not storch!
Apart from that irritating bit - well done. Looks really nice.

They should be fixed, as in the full scale aircraft. They were not movable, as many believe.

Actually it is pronounced shtorch - the ch is NOT a 'k' sound but a guttural (like a Scotsman saying 'Och aye)
