  • In this week’s adventure, we’re metal detecting in the woods. What’s the BEST way to find colonial relics and coins? By following the rock walls, of course! Sometimes, your usual plan just doesn’t pan out, or maybe the cellar hole you were looking for is inaccessible… but metal detecting in New England rarely disappoints! Go with your gut, follow the rock walls, and fill up your pouch with the treasures of yesteryear! Hope you enjoy this week’s episode!

    Favorite find last year was a 1773 Holed Half Reale at my childhood home in Michigan. Have found a few colonial era things from the first settlers of the area, who came there in the 1830's. Great video as always!

      That’s so cool! I would love to find stuff at my childhood home, but when I detected it, I was digging beer cans a foot deep. Shame, because it’s all on 1700s farm land!

    Happy New Year, Stef! Shoe buckles interest me as much as coins, finding a complete one is amazing. I noticed yours was well worn, making it even more rare. But the piece of frame is so adorned, I have the impression of wealth. What a great beginning to 2022 for your channel. You know if I lived in New England metal detecting would be an obsession rather than an interest. I am happy you are there to save as much as possible, thank you!

    Beautiful shoe buckle frame - congrats! My favorite find from last year is the 1770's Hibernia I found at Digstock. This year I hope to find either a shoe buckle frame or a skeleton key. (Or a GW button but that goes without saying! ) About a month after Digstock I was watching someone's detecting video on the E Coast and realized I had missed the opportunity for potentially finding ceramic pipes or arrowheads because I'd never find those things where I live. I'll be scouring the ground in NC in March for them! Great to see you back Stef!!

    • @StefDigs
      @StefDigs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! You know, to be fair, I saw no clay pipe stems at Digstock and I’m always looking for them - always looking for points too, and although I saw none, I know that some were definitely found there at the event that was held 2 years before. Fingers crossed that you get on a shoe buckle or skeleton key! At least worn skeleton keys, they were made well into the 20th century, so you can find them almost everywhere! 😄

    I live in Canada ..right across the river from Detroit Michigan. I found a 10th Regiment of foot British button. It's strange because they were stationed over at Fort Detroit for only 2 years ...1772-1774. Then that regiment left for Boston and participated in the revolutionary war...1776. So it is super rare to find one here! Probably one of my best finds ever!

      @StefDigs  ปีที่แล้ว

    Great vid! Glad you edited out my profanities... LOL!
    If viewers saw and understood the TINY piece of RANDOM public woods we happened to stop at off the side of a main road surrounded by residential housing with only a wandering stone wall as a sign of age - they would better understand my reaction that I not only couldn't believe we found ANYTHING but I could not believe you found a $#@!! complete shoe buckle. I do think you and all of us in New England need to be very careful about rock construction. I'm no expert, but to me those did look like they might have been burials or something. I think from now on, I'm going to uncover, photograph and cover again.

      Yeah, it’s something that should be carefully respected for sure. I think it’s a pretty bad idea to uncover them and photograph them if there are bodies underneath, personally. Wouldn’t do that in a million years, myself, but to each their own.

    In NYS it seems like they built rock walls, and rock things out of boredom.

      Interesting - was definitely purposefully built out where I am, usually property boundaries or they line old cart paths and roads.
