I just purchased this Onkyo TX-SR3100 on sale for only $299 because it fits the type of budget system I'm looking for, it has enough current features like dolby atmos, dts-X and speaker settings. It should work well with my 8 ohm Paradigm Monitor SE Atom speakers. It suits my room configuration, in which there won't be any rear channels. I,m setting up a 3.1.2 system with matching LCR speakers, height speakers up front and one SVS PB-1000 subwoofer. I anticipate this to be a fairly nice system with budget friendly components that will perform well above it's price point! I'm usually underwhelmed with higher priced components that don't meet expectations. It's more satisfying putting togethet a nice lower cost sytem that exceeds expectations!
I just bought my first house - a 2, 1 1/2 townhouse on 2 levels - (I close within the next few weeks) and, at least temporarily I might be forced to go from a 7.2.4 to a 3.2.2 or worse. Can it sound any good?? My current setup is a combination of Klipsch RP-series and some cheap Polk satellites for surround and my AVR is a Denon x4700. All the ceilings are textured and there's a staircase abutting to the short wall (11') and a kitchen next to the long wall (16').
Every Onkyo I have owned, at most, lasted 2 years before death. I cringe when I hear people talk about them. A cheap $300 Sony dh790 has lasted 4 years now with Atmos
I just retired my 5 year old TX-SR313 only because a software upgrade on my LG TV make the HDMI audio start stuttering. My Previous Onkyo receiver pre-dated HDMI and also was retired in perfect working condition. I’ve never heard anyone complain about Onkyo quality. I was thrilled to score a TX-SR3100 for $199 on Amazon. It’s built like a tank.

I like this idea as I have gone 2.1 just because of set up room issues.3.2.2 makes sense
I just snagged one for $199 on Amazon. 😊
This receiver kicks arse. I love mine.
