    Avi, the bass singer, has occasionally blown out speakers while in concert

  • @jelinenanashi9466

    That deep, rumbling, vibrating bass that strikes you straight into the center of your chest and changes your breathing temporarily is what I call the Kaplan effect. Only Avi has been able to do that to me. Not that there aren't other wonderful bass singers out there, but Avi is the only one that has an unmatched warmth, strength, and full power at his lowest note.

    • @michellecole6325
      @michellecole6325 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I couldn't agree more! I love the bass range, but you have to do more than just "hit" the low note, imo. Personally, I'm crazy for that warmth and chocolatey velvet any day of the week. And the emotion that comes through clearly no matter what octaves he sings...gets me every time.

    PTX has mastered the order of their solo features in each piece... they tap into your heart and soul and then kick you in the face and then hum your into submission! Haha there were no instruments. They have a live version on their christmas performance and it sounds just as perfect. Kevin Olusola is the beatboxer and he’s amazing. He does sounds when he inhales and exhales so there is never a break. It’s a common comment about having some artificial percussion but there isn’t :) great reaction!

    You are correct with the bass! They kill every voice part but headphones or good speakers make your body vibrate with the bass. It’s a full body experience... which in my opinion, takes it to another level. When music can effect your entire body.... it really sticks with you.

  • @tamarasmith9060

    Well, yes technically there is a small bit of post production on official versions, but typically not more than a 2nd layer of someone's vocal or what they do in the live performance on stage with reverb added to their mics. Small things like that. That's because the point is that they are an a capella band, & their fans want to hear them do these songs live. A few edm style songs like their Daft Punk Medley might have reverb on someone's mic for most of the song. Scott has 1 section in Bohemian Rhapsody where I think it's added to that whole section for a fuller sound. Or it might just be added on a certain sound effect 1 person does in a song, like in Bohemian Rhapsody when it gets to the "electric guitar solo" performed by Mitch. I think they just switch his mic to reverb for that part only & then switch it back. In the official video, this mechanical effect added to his guitar vocal is shown by him "using" a megaphone, so that you immediately understand that they are admitting that to get that sound exactly the way they wanted there had to be a tool used, but also it is still his voice & if you hear him do it without a mic you would still know it's someone imitating an electric guitar because it's pretty close.
    There is a video of them doing Daft Punk completely off mic in a private performance to a small number of people in a dressing room, yet the song sounds so similar to the on stage/official version that people use it to point out how much they really do with just their voices. So some of what you think is post production isn't, it's actually sound effects they make. For example, Avi can do overtones, make his bass reverb till you think there must be looping going on (he actually did opera training), or make his bass notes in short sharper bursts in perfect time with Kevin's beatboxing so that it sounds like a drum added post production. So you might want to sometimes check out recommended live performances of some of their songs too & compare with the studio version in a double reaction.

    In the live version I think Kevin has a stamp pad to help mic up his stamping, though they may not have needed it for the studio version... But yeah, that's the closest to an instrument on this track ever... Unless you count him patting his chest or whatever... Pretty sure they record in a studio though, so pretty sure there's some reverb and minor stuff going on... But if you watch them live without microphones, you can tell they can do most of it without needing anything.
    But yeah, as a rule, if you don't see an instrument in the video, it doesn't exist in the recording.

No. They are 95% a cappella. The only times instruments are used, you will see them in the video. @@MissJojo7682 it was just a joke. They wrote such a huge, passionate comment about there being no drums I just thought I'd mess with them

    Hey Mike, this is just MY OPINION, but I think you might be better off with this type of music over constant heavy metal. Heavy metal is good dont get me wrong but it only caters to a small minority as oppose to pop, rock, rap etc etc. Said only with love and no hate at all btw. Xx

    Nope no drums, all Kevin, when he is recording he is probably using a mic'd stomp pad, and they catch his claps. But no drums...Yep, a bit of reverb, some volume level adjusting to bring out certain peoples vocals and to bring out Avi's bass and Mitch and Kirstie's high notes.
