When will people (including Gibbo) finally get the message that the money is ALWAYS there. There was no special pot of cash for Guehi that has disappeared (and I don't believe for a second we were offering anywhere near 70mill). To a large extent it's PSR that stops the money from being spent. If we had bought Guehi in the summer then we would have had to sell a big player or a few players before the end of June 25 to balance the PSR books due to the 3 year cycle of allowed losses. We don't want another fire sale of young / top talent. Having to balance the books is a massive issue and a difficult balance to strike. Mitchell is absolutely right to say the recruitment is / was not fit for purpose in a PSR world. We can't just spend 40-60million on every player we buy. You get a quality 11 but a very thin bench (sound familiar?). He's looking to address that by identifying better, young players for the academy / U21 etc and at the same time finding "cheaper" talent for the first team from leagues across Europe and the World. There is nothing wrong with looking to the recruitment processes and policies of Bournemouth and Brighton. It's just smart recruitment coupled with an acceptance that some good players can leave for a (potentially) massive profit. Probably something between Brighton and Chelsea models might be a good reference. Last thing - Eddie Howe will always say he wants players to stay but what else would someone who's good at man-management say? Think about it. It's not necessarily the truth. People need to be less naive and realise that.
Very enjoyable pod Andrew and John. We don't take risks Andrew, so I can't see us going for that lad 'boro linked (loan to buy) unfortunately. John, as always, love your optimistic realism. #htl 0-2
Great podcast Andrew and John 👍🏻, looking forward to see how we bounce back on Saturday 👍🏻, hopefully a good performance and the intensity is there from kick off. I’m hoping for 4 points from our next 2 matches, Southampton then Fulham. I think we’ve missed Schar’s mid to long range passing which allows us to switch play a bit quicker up field. HWTL ⚫️⚪️
Think people may have misconstrued Gibbo's point on the 'Guehi money'. He's getting at an inconsistency in application: if we can't spend this month because of PSR, then we couldn't have spent money on Guehi or Elanga at the end of the summer. If you join the dots, it means the Guehi saga and Elanga 'bid' were nothing more than an exercise to make it look like we were in the market when we never going to risk spending because of PSR. Fans were strung along. Still, Guehi's non transfer did Garner a lot of clicks and sold a few Chronicles to boot.
Sulemana is very dangerous. Honestly we got exposed so badly against Bournemouth that we ended up going into a low block in spells. Our defence is fragile and they want to sit deeper and let teams spam crosses all game.
If we do weaken the team this window and fail to bring better reinforcement in for bench or first team, and we fail to win a cup or do not qualify for CL or Europa, then our senior management team at the club who deal in the strategies of the club need a serious review, as the knock-on effects to those things are loss of financial gain for PSR, loss of ambition or motivation for the players to stay with the project and potentially the key players we have currently may want to leave for CL qualifying clubs. The club has a very challenging end to this season now and what they do going forward. The stadium upgrade and training ground upgrades may be released and discussed earlier as a smoke screen if the above becomes a reality. Hopefully that won't be the case and we get a good end to this season, but we all know we have not had the depth for a long time now and it so needed.
I am sure Eddie answered a question at a press conference about the Gehy money, it wasnt there and if we spent it, then we would have had to scramble and sell before the end of June. Also Jan incomings would take until March before they were Eddie fit.
How many times have we played the bottom club and been beaten- so as much as I want to say we’ll win, something in the back of my head says it’s Newcastle - so everything crossed for this game! Howay the Lads ⚽️⚽️⚽️
I remember that Derby side and if i remember correctly, Newcastle were the only team to lose to them that season. We need to be back to the side we have seen before the Wolves game. Relentless and physical.
How are Bournemouth the best side to come to St James' Park this season 😂 Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Villa. So much coping going on over this game. We were hammered by a mid table team at home and we have the cheek to talk about finishing top 4. No chance!
I think Bournemouth were arsenal were very poor villa did not really turned up liverpool and city were good but Bournemouth had a straight 11 players to choose from. We had a bad day that s all
I think that's massively unfair on Bournemouth. They have in my view, and many others, put in the best performance of any side visiting this year. They're a really good side.
@@everythingisblackandwhiteNUFC Again, I think you are coping. I'm not taking anything away from Bournemouth, they did what they had to do. I'm focusing on Newcastle's performance which was absolutely awful and it raises an lot of questions because let's be realistic, Bournemouth no matter how well they are playing will not finish in the top 4. They are not a top 4 side. Are they even a top 6 side? Top 8? So what does that say about Newcastle? Off day? That remains to be seen because before the 9 game run with 6 wins in the league we were 12th. But you guys are saying it was because Bournemouth are so great!! Really? Are they? I know tiredness has been used as mitigating factors and I think we may have seen that on Wednesday night. So if we seen it why didn't the manager and make changes? It throws up so many questions about the season again because for the majority of the season we have been poor up until we played Leicester at home. And let's be honest, look at our run, it consisted of bottom half of the table teams, two fighting for relegation and the worst Man United side for decades and a poor Spurs, aside from Villa who were down to ten men. Arsenal was the outlayer and they are in a bad patch atm. Don't get me wrong I want to believe Newcastle are up there battling it out for top 4 but I think we may just be kidding ourselves. The point I'm making is Bournemouth are not world beaters! They are not this brilliant Premier League side you are all making them out to be! They may be on a bit of a purple patch, like Newcastle were but they are a mid table team at best! And for the record I really enjoy your co-host, I agree with 99% of what he says, he's my favourite guest you have on your show.
@@JackBurton3963 That's my point, isn't it!? We aren't as good as we think we are, however Bournemouth aren't as good as we say they are either. Bournemouth are having a good season by their standards, but they won't finish any higher than 8th. So where does that leave Newcastle? You think Bournemouth will ever finish higher than 8th? Next season? I don't think so. We also have an issue that we have a half decent first 11, still need a RW, but our squad depth isn't there and that will hinder our season.
"Is this really the game you want strait after a thumping?"....Yes Andrew it is. I'd rather play the side rock bottom of the league on 6 points than Man City thats for sure
Sorry about the audio on my part! Issue with my mic! Have fixed the problem for the next episode.

John should do audio books. Great voice. I can imagine him doing a bobby Robson autobiography! ❤
I'll pass this onto him - he'll love this praise!

They most certainly will bounce back l feel it was just a tiredness spell for the team
It's a catch 22 really we have to qualify for Europe to keep our top players happy and for the revenue that brings for more recruitment!

You are correct, Adam. Hopefully we avoid that against Southampton
Not only that, we failed to beat them. We lost 1-0 at their place and drew 2-2 at home. They took 4 of their 11 points of us.

Nah Bournemouth were tactically brilliant. Iraola schooled Howe. Very similar to what Terzic did at SJP but better.

Brighton look the real dark horses as their players come back from injury.
Great side to watch!
Ffs adverts every minute
I would like to think a gov regulator would smash the corruption that is going on in the fa but fear it and gov are 1 and the same !

confidence can appear out of nowhere and can disappear in one game ...will they have it against Southampton ..?
stop being such a wet wipe will you ? Terrified of Southampton and John is absolutely spot on. Would you prefer Liverpool away ?
Thank-you, River Tyne. Morning to you!
