@@smu8672 it’s nothing like Emily in Paris. Kitty actually wants to learn more about her culture, where her mom went to school. I disagree, she didn’t focus on her culture much because she was busy balancing school, her boyfriend, her sexuality, and who she believed to be her mom’s son. And nothing worked in her favor. She flunked in school and only managed to salvage it in the end, she broke up with her boyfriend, in her POV she broke up a family, and the girl she liked is with someone else. On top of that, she got expelled (though she’ll probably be back after her break). She did nothing she wanted to do during this show, her life ended up mostly a mess
most people that go to international school don’t learn the language there that’s the whole point of the school being INTERNATIONAL, also it would normal take 3 years for native english speakers to learn korean

As a 16 year old I can confirm the constant wishy washy changing of romantic feelings is REAL. I hate myself but my brain is fantasizing about everyone
I think it’s because there’s the other side (like me) who did not have wishy washy romantic feelings in high school. I went through school thinking dating sounds like a waste of time considering it’s probably won’t make it to college. Therefore, it’s also a waste of time to crush and high school boys. . .I digress🙃🙃🙃 So, to me Kitty was doing the most lol
@@Bambi-ek7lv you also don’t sound American, and people seem to think this is a kdrama which it’s not it’s very much an American drama and this is common as an American high schooler
As someone who has been to one of those international schools in Korea (not in Seoul though, but I’ve seen those ones too), there is nooo way in hell all of these fantasies are true. I laughed the whole time because of how wrong the series was on portraying korea. Also, no one dresses like Yuri in Korea (yes, not one person except foreigners). The dresses and the clothes were just too American for being set in SK. Also, the dorms are just one room for two ppl to use.. LMAO no way they gave a whole ass apartment to those kids smh..
the apartments annoyed me so much lol, like SURE the dorm rooms can be pretty and spacious at a rich school, but i know y'all don't have a comfy ikea living room and a kitchen with tasteful splashback and island counter
So Kitty was dating someone for 4 YEARS, finally went to see them just to find out that he lied and was dating someone else who isn't even nice to her and "it's not all about her"?!
agreeddd. people love to hate on kitty but honestly i really liked her??? she was charming, a massive go getter, and really brought the cast together. she was fucked over by so many of the characters but still treats them all kindly.
i think they should have established the "four years" part more clearly at the start. i couldn't remember how old kitty was in tatbilb so i thought it had only been like 1-2 years max (which is still a long time) but FOUR YEARS is crazy esp for kids but they don't make it clear until like episode 7 or something, so when she first wanted to go to the school because of him i was like "girl relax he's just some guy you met" and when she freaked out when she saw him i thought it was dramatic, but when you find out it's been THAT long it makes heaps more sense
nah this show bothered me so much from the constant lack of communication that continuously led to multiple misunderstandings, but most of all, the way they portrayed the Korean society and the female lead’s lack of social understanding. I studied at Yonsei last fall and I’ll tell ya right now, my entire dorm room (shared w another girl) was half the size of their bedroom alone in the show, and not that many ppl actually speak English fluently unless you go to a cafe where all the drink orders are technically English but just written in Hangul. plus w the way this girl acts everyone and their mother would be glaring and judging this American girl for how she is behaving in a foreign country 💀
i can kinda get behind Kitty doing so bad on the tests because she was used to being the smartest and was so overly confident that she didn't even stop to think like "OH, maybe things are different here and i need to put in more effort than i did back home" cause she didn't even bothered to learn 3 words in korean. also, korean students mostly spend at LEAST 12 hours a day studying and this show represents korean schools so badly 😭
the whole reason for korean international school, IS SO YOU DONT HAVE TO LEARN KOREAN IF YOU DONT WANT TO, for native english speakers it’s one of the most hardest languages to learn, it would normally take around 3 years just to get fluent in korean, and that’s if you study it everyday
When they said the pop star’s name was Ocean Park I just started laughing hysterically bc I used to live in Hong Kong so all I saw was the giant seal every time I saw the guy’s face 😂
THANK YOU for saying “that’s a child”. I know it isn’t surprising to see Netflix teens being sexualized but there’s something even stranger about it being someone we watched grow up through the movies.
I stg how hard is it to write a likable protagonist, characters that can communicate properly, and a setting that doesn't fetishize a culture? Like it's the bare minimum at this point. "Kitty in Korea" is definitely a more suitable name

I thought it was so weird that yuris family was speaking english in their own home?? Like your native language is korean and when you are annoyed or angry you default to it but you dont speak it in your own home to your parents🤨
I don't think it's weird because me and my mom speak german all the time. My mom even responds to me in german most of the time even if I do talk to her in our native language and she's full vietnamese and speaks way better viet than german. I just think it becomes a habit when you live in a foreign country for a long time. And they mentioned in the series that they raised yuri in a foreign country so it makes complete sense to me. However there were a few times where they did talk in korean and they refer to their relatives with korean terms😊

Ikr let kitty find herself and be a feminist who doesn’t need a man since they’re going for inclusion and bring new fresh likable characters for minho and dae
@@smu8672 yea but let’s be honest. Many people watched this show because he’s the MOST normal character in this series. He’s also very likable. Dae and kitty gotta be the most UNLIKEABLE characters in the series. Yuri is ok for me. I love Minho. But dae- bro is just annoying and has poor communication skills- he could’ve changed everything by explaining when he actually had the chance. There was anytime he could explain and he didn’t. All he had to say is “We are fake dating and Yuri stole ur necklace out of jealous.” It could’ve saved their relationship but no. also don’t even start with kitty. Her feelings with Yuri were also so ridiculous. @@Luckystars_the1nonly i dont think minho is the most normal character, i dont have anything against him., but i like kitty and dae more. he was funny but also pretty rude, i warmed up to him, but he isnt my fav
the reason why they changed dae’s actor was because the original actor signed up to go for boys planet 999 (which is a kpop audition survival show) which lasted for around 4 - 5 months so he was unable to participate in filming for xo kitty
I dont get why people saying Kitty randomly catching feelings is unrealistic. As teens, we get a crush on people no matter how absurd the reason is. I know damn well that guys I thought were ugly, were suddenly the most attractive men in an instant, and the reason? For just sitting there, or giving me a pen, or saying hi. I think that is a more realistic part of the show, even though I still don't support Yuri x Kitty lol. For a show it is random, but people are talking about how unrealistic it is which is something I disagree with
There was an article about Dae's casting. There was a schedule conflict with the original Dae who was going to be on Boys Planet so they had to recast.
Look i didn't want to watch XO, Kitty but i wanted to understand the memes so this was perfect! I agree w u tho, kitty needs to grow up a bit ! But i like that she behaved like a teenager thoo

How though, girl constantly treats Kitty like shitty, comes in between Dae and Kitty even though they aren't even dating for real. Makes zero sense to me, lol.
I kinda wish the series focused more on kitty learning more abt her korean roots. I was watching the whole series waiting for that moment and i was just disappointed, cant deny i was surprisingly enjoying the series. I literally just realized in episode 2, when Yuri’s mom gets lettuce off Yuri’s dad’s suit or something like that it was probably foreshadowing to when he got mad at one of his chef’s and threw lettuce everywhere. Or I’m just looking to far into it 💀
My friends are dragging me to watch this over the summer and im ready to suffer and face the pure cringe Edit: After 3 episodes, I learned rage and angry because of Dae and Kitty, as well as Min ho (kind of), like Min ho is such a snob but has very rare moments of actually being funny for example the third wheeling scene of Q and Florian, Kitty is annoying as f, and Dae why can’t he just text her what’s happening, I know serious topics should be in person but what other choice does he have because of Yuri and her family🤦♀️ Also my favorite character is Q for sure
WHY does everybody find kitty so unlikeable and annoying. If she was Korean and would be really shy and blushy around Minho than everyone will literally worship her. See now if kitty was as rude as Minho than she would be cold and attention seaker but no right because Minho is a boy and he is handsome. You are just annoyed that Anna gets the main role no an American.
@@kpoplover6495This has nothing to do with the actor. Nobody is hating on Anna٫ they know she's doing what the directors want her to do. They are hating on the actors character. And people have their own opinions.

I feel the show very much isn’t like Emily in Paris in the sense of Kitty not learning Korean as Kitty very much thinks she doesn’t need to since she has friends that speak it perfectly. Plus they do point out to her that show does need to work on her Korean with her not understanding conversations that are happening in front of her. Even in the first scene when she gets to Korea, no one is willing to help her with the amount of people who can’t speak English and aren’t able to help her. I feel in season 2 she will learn Korean as this season was only a semester so learning a language in 4-5 months very much can’t make you fluent in a Korean. With Emily in Paris, Emily has no real attachment to France and to learn French other than it’s for her job while XO Kitty has Kitty wanting to learn about her heritage and what her mom learned at KISS so very much she would want to learn Korean. I think if the episodes were longer than 30 minutes, they probably could have fit in a whole plot of Kitty learning Korean but since we don’t have that extra time, they probably will save that for season 2. But I believe since they have 8 native speaking Korean actors in the show as either main or supporting characters, I believe they thought of having Kitty learning Korean lol
As someone who has spent significant amounts of time in Korea watching this show is hilarious! It gets as many things wrong as it gets right. Especially the lactose intolerance stuff had me up in arms. „Lactose intolerant majority“ my ass! Koreans love cheese in any kind of fast/comfort food and strawberry milk is famously popular. These 80% do not care about their stomachs i promise you! 🤡
I watched XO Kitty then went and watched All The Boys series because I never had, and there’s a moment where Peter says something along the lines of “Your style’s way better than Gen’s” and Lara Jean just said thanks and accepted it but Kitty went Shania Twain on him
About 14:10, I was educated in the German school system, and it is not so hard like the Asian system, BUT it is NEVER so dumb like the American system. The American school system is especially dumb. You have to know
Something I can talk about. While I first went back and forth between Kitty and Yuri and Kitty and Minho, you reminded me of my favorite sub category of enemies to lovers: rivals to lovers. Rivals to lovers are not about just destroying each other or being abusive at first. It is easier to get behind, in my opinion. So Kitty and Minho meet that in my opinion.
I ALSO THOUGHT THEIR MOMS WERE DATING 😂😂 i was actually, genuinely shocked when it turned out they weren’t lmaooo
BROO ME TOO
LMAO i thought that one of their moms liked the other but the feeling wasnt mutual bc the other liked mr Lee☠️☠️
@@Pylahskay i also thought that!! haha
im kinda disappointed 💀
STOP ME TOO I THOUGHT THAT AS WELL
18:42 omg yes “Xo, Min ho” 21:37 and “Xo, Yuri” they both carried the show and the best part is their siblings.❤️❤️
The fact that Yuri is not mean but was heartbroken by her own mom was the most Asian thing, to be honest. NO................like YURI was frikin cute.
And I WAS annoyed with Kitty as well as Madison, She straight up added Korean words in between her own language. And yes, THE WAY KITTY SAYS "MEAN HOE", gurl.....
Mean hoe 😭
But yea it annoyed me that she pronounced his name wrong
the fact that kitty lived with the boys for an entire semester is just so wattpad-esque.
Yes it was ridiculous...
As a 16 year old I can confirm the constant wishy washy changing of romantic feelings is REAL. I hate myself but my brain is fantasizing about everyone
fr idk why people complained about that
Exactly same thing I said, she is a teenager in high school, yes I definitely understand why she was all over the place and I truly enjoyed this show
I think it’s because there’s the other side (like me) who did not have wishy washy romantic feelings in high school.
I was like that but around 14 and didn't last long, at 16 I was focused on school and couldn't care less about romantic relationships haha
LMAO no way they gave a whole ass apartment to those kids smh..
it’s a rich school
@@smu8672 all international schools are rich. So was mine, and it wasn’t whatever XO kitty is.
@@smu8672 also one of the scenes had my old school in it, so yeah, I would know
the apartments annoyed me so much lol, like SURE the dorm rooms can be pretty and spacious at a rich school, but i know y'all don't have a comfy ikea living room and a kitchen with tasteful splashback and island counter
teen shows have almost never been realistic
*sets her sister up with one of her five crushes ONCE*
kitty: i'm a matchmaker 😆😤🤪
she set them up with five crushes 😭😭
YESS TY LMAOO
Kitty’s literally in a love hexagon it’s no longer just a triangle…
THANK YOU for saying “that’s a child”. I know it isn’t surprising to see Netflix teens being sexualized but there’s something even stranger about it being someone we watched grow up through the movies.
Mmmhmmm!
they're all portrayed as 16-17 in the show
I stg how hard is it to write a likable protagonist, characters that can communicate properly, and a setting that doesn't fetishize a culture? Like it's the bare minimum at this point. "Kitty in Korea" is definitely a more suitable name
“This was actually really fun”
*immediately regrets it*
Honestly, XO Kitty was ass lmao. I think it sort of watered down, I wouldn't call it whitewashed but whatever, and I mean im happy to see some more diverse characters and not just Koreans and 1 dumb American who always ends up being a villain, I think one of the only K-dramas I have watched that did the foreigners really well is *So Not Worth It* you should check it out
It's a k-drama
It's like getting upset a Mexican telenovela doesn't use more french actors
It's good some of them want to use foreign characters
But I find it weird some people get upset there aren't more Americans in K DRAMA
@@Isabella-vx3bc I didn't say I wished there were more americans in kdramas I was making fun of how they display americans when they are in dramas. And how they usually make them a complete wanderer who doesnt know whats going on 💀
@@alfredoeraser528 honestly isn't that how a good chunk of western films/shows portray poc characters? nowadays we have more diversity, but most castings are diversity for diversity sakes, and a good chunk of narratives with a poc character is still based on stereotypes and cliches that westerners perceive about a country lol... can't really blame them about the representation when it's also done in reverse
@@musical.unicorn I'm happy to see diversity. And I didn't say I had a problem with the casting. I made a joke about the portrayal of Westerners in Korean dramas because I find it funny that when a foreigner comes up, they make them look like a lost duck lmao. This isn't necessarily XO Kittys case, but its just something I brought up.
Itaewon Class too
Keep in mind anna cathcart is 19 while lee sangheon, minhos actor, is 27. I understand they’re both consenting adults but that’s almost a decade age gap 😭
edit : a bit irrelevant but also relevant to those who are team yuri kim gia, yuris actor, is 30.
edit 2 : i’m in no way trying to spread hate as some in the replies are implying. don’t kill the messenger, i’m just saying it’s kinda a bit age gap :/
That explains so much lord
could they really not have found actors in their early 20s? 💀
no that is very much creepy i cant say pedophilic cause people will come for me hollywood is weird.
@@bbanglixmost likely they did audition but didn’t do as good☠️ casting agents don’t look for stuff like that, it’s a matter if you can act or have the look.
@@bbanglixit rlly doesn’t matter about their ages, there job is to act not be 20
"is she gonna get kidnapped?? nah, not that kinda kdrama" I LEGIT THOUGHT THE SAME LOL
The show isn’t really a k drama. It’s an American drama with k drama aspects. It’s weird and definitely it a a great show but it’s definitely entertaining
As a Filipina, I can confirm that we are always hyped whenever someone mentions the Philippines. That’s why we’re all in love with Paq man 😂
Also bruh I never bothered to read the comments on kitty’s exams…. How was she smart back in America? She’s literally distracted by everything happening that she’s dumb. She’d get like 1s in her AP exams. Also how does she not know that a lot of Asians are lactose intolerant?? I feel like that’s one of our toxic traits (we use milk and cheese but we lactose intolerant.)
FILIPINA HERE TOO YASSSS THE HYPEEE IS REALLLLLLL
I'm Asian but not East Asian. Majority of Korean being lactose intolerant is not well known fact
@@Ao-vj9pz kitty lives in Southern California where there’s lots of East and south East Asians and most of us are lactose intolerant. She should’ve known.
@@maddiemcnugget1076 doesn't she live in Portland? Also the American school system is a lot easier compared to the rest of the world and while I agree that Kitty wasn't the smartest character socially and didn't have much common sense, that's different than being book smart.
Because she didn't have all this Dae + school drama back in the US, not enough to affect her rgades at least + its a universally known fact that Asians have it more rigourous in terms of education and the US is relatively easier
this show is the definition of camp. also rlly liked seeing different types of asians in this show, and they nailed some of the humor aspects of the show well
I thought it was so weird that yuris family was speaking english in their own home?? Like your native language is korean and when you are annoyed or angry you default to it but you dont speak it in your own home to your parents🤨
it’s literally a american show, what you expect literally most shows do that so you don’t have to read what there saying for long periods of time
I don't think it's weird because me and my mom speak german all the time. However there were a few times where they did talk in korean and they refer to their relatives with korean terms😊
did not finish the series bec i found kitty annoying too :/ thanks for this, ciara!
i could not go through the episodes without kitty doing something embarrassing 😭 she was so unlikeable

As someone who is a fan of the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before films; XO Kitty is a collection of cliches, melodrama and love squares/triangles that is a Kryptonite to my fanfic writer soul that I refuse to watch despite this being a spin-off of a trilogy I adore
its exactly what i love about this show.l
the title HELPP i only watched the first 2 episodes i needed this vid
HAHAH did u not finish the series?? :00
No wonder the lead looked soo familiar and had deja vu from her personality , this is the red headed girl from Oddsquad and they had extremely similar mannerisms
"they should have named this xo min ho" GIRL JUST SUMMED UP LITERALLY EVERYONE'S THOUGHTS ON THIS SHOW
I'm glad that Yuri has a nice partner
I want the same for Dae and Minho but its not Kitty for neither of them imo
Ikr let kitty find herself and be a feminist who doesn’t need a man since they’re going for inclusion and bring new fresh likable characters for minho and dae
Nah kitty annoys me sooooo much she is just not it and they literally took every k drama out there made one character gay and then whitewashed it
To eb honest, Min Ho deserves better than falling for Kitty T_T She's too annoying to get the most normal character in the whole show
minho isn’t normal at all, he’s too self absorbed but he is funny. he was quite irritating at times
Girl started liking her when she was drunk because she offered her a bottle of water 😭 Q and Minho are very likable characters and Minho is probably the most realistic and normal. He’s just a spoiled rich kid who starts to get use to kitty.
weird to call her too annoying when half of minho’s personality until the end of the show is just being snarky to her bc she’s his friends girlfriend
@@Luckystars_the1nonly i dont think minho is the most normal character, i dont have anything against him., but i like kitty and dae more. he was funny but also pretty rude, i warmed up to him, but he isnt my fav

Your title mirrored my first thought about the show. It is a K-drama fantasy for the West
Using water for these drinking games is a great hydration hack 😂
It's a really silly show, but it was fun to watch and i'm excited for season 2
This was too funny 😂💗 Thank you for the great video, Ciara 😝🫶
I absolutely recognized this as like a gateway K drama. It's silly, it's dramatic, it's a fun watch
The whole show was cringe but my favorite is Q
He was the best .. I need a friend like him
the reason why they changed dae’s actor was because the original actor signed up to go for boys planet 999 (which is a kpop audition survival show) which lasted for around 4 - 5 months so he was unable to participate in filming for xo kitty
WAIT WAIT SERIOUSLY???? who was it??
why is no one talking about the lukewarm soju 😭 A CRIME 😭
Love the soju plot twist
me adding one more plot twist to all the plot twists 🤣
I LOVE THAT YOU TOOK A SHOT EVERYTIME SHE SAID SHES A MATCHMAKER I WAS SO DONE WITH HER
I dont get why people saying Kitty randomly catching feelings is unrealistic. For a show it is random, but people are talking about how unrealistic it is which is something I disagree with
ciara u absolute icon u have done it again
There was an article about Dae's casting. There was a schedule conflict with the original Dae who was going to be on Boys Planet so they had to recast.
it may be a whitewashed show, but I am still waiting for Season 2
Look i didn't want to watch XO, Kitty but i wanted to understand the memes so this was perfect! I agree w u tho, kitty needs to grow up a bit ! But i like that she behaved like a teenager thoo

KITTY HAS ALL THE RIZZ AND WE LOVE HER AND EVERYONE. (She's more acceptable than Emily bc she's not stomping around acting like she knows better than everyone, for just one reason)
I definitely love the chemistry between Minho and Kitty the best
i loved how Q was half west asian/middle eastern (persian) and half southeast asian (Filipino), i’m persian japanese so it was cool to see
Stanning yuri for being the only normal person in the whole show
How though, girl constantly treats Kitty like shitty, comes in between Dae and Kitty even though they aren't even dating for real. Makes zero sense to me, lol.

I kinda wish the series focused more on kitty learning more abt her korean roots. I was watching the whole series waiting for that moment and i was just disappointed, cant deny i was surprisingly enjoying the series. But then again yeah, it wouldve been better especially since she went on to say that her going to korea isnt abt or bc of a boy but she went sike ;0;

Your reaction to Q was my reaction to Juliana! As a Black girl I hope we get to see more of her soon!
Ok but I liked how they added the weekend by Bibi in the background of the party dancing scene
I literally just realized in episode 2, when Yuri’s mom gets lettuce off Yuri’s dad’s suit or something like that it was probably foreshadowing to when he got mad at one of his chef’s and threw lettuce everywhere. Or I’m just looking to far into it 💀
My friends are dragging me to watch this over the summer and im ready to suffer and face the pure cringe
Edit: After 3 episodes, I learned rage and angry because of Dae and Kitty, as well as Min ho (kind of), like Min ho is such a snob but has very rare moments of actually being funny for example the third wheeling scene of Q and Florian, Kitty is annoying as f, and Dae why can’t he just text her what’s happening, I know serious topics should be in person but what other choice does he have because of Yuri and her family🤦♀️
Also my favorite character is Q for sure
we really don’t care what you think about the show your a cringe pack already so
WHY does everybody find kitty so unlikeable and annoying.
And people have their own opinions.
nO eNGlisHi is my favorite line from the whole series literally i watched that show for minho-
Minho is the only reason why I continued to watch the show.
You sipping that drink or alcohol or whatever wen ever match making or matchmaker is said is the highlight of this video, u are so adorable, love u ❤
dae's dance skills is slay. XO Min ho all the wayy. Kitty should've atleast learnt the language and this show is literally directed at koreaboos lol.

i love how this is how we all reacted to this show especially the love hate with kitty 😂
this video is so entertaining!! just subscribed
1:10 the dae that was in the movies went to the audition / was a contestant for boy planet 999 😭
I watched XO Kitty then went and watched All The Boys series because I never had, and there’s a moment where Peter says something along the lines of “Your style’s way better than Gen’s” and Lara Jean just said thanks and accepted it but Kitty went Shania Twain on him
Emily in Paris and now this. Please someone stop Netflix for real or we are going to have one of these for every country on the planet.

They are my favorite ship on the show.
