      This one gets to me the most because Komugi is such a simple character, in the most positive way. To think that she had the happiest moments of her life in the middle of a war. While the world was ending, her world was just beginning.

    Ive seen Hunter x Hunter a few times aswell the single biggest thing of the ant arc to me personally is the contrast between Meruem and Gon that is completed by this episode. They basicly swap places as Gon is overwhelmed by his anger and loses control and becomes a monster, meanwhile Meruem comes to understand himself and what he values, becoming very human and the new perspective makes me appreciate things in a whole new way. For example Pitous death is devastating to me since Pitou was the only one who nurtured and welcomed the change in the king that lead to Meruem becoming what he was in the end. Gon in the other hand was blinded by hes own emotions "as a child does" and is completely unable to understand that Kite was at fault too. The ants were acting out their nature and it was cruel and inhumane by our standards becouse they were another species and Pitou killing Kite was an act of defending ones home and species. In fact the whole problem with the ants enjoying killing was portrayed as a problem caused by them becoming unstable becouse they were part human. This episode is by far my favorite one and the chimera ant arc is in my opinion one of the best stories ever written.

    • @CR-hj2hk
      @CR-hj2hk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think Gon lost it bc Pitou used Kite as a puppet, so the killing instinct of a chimera ant has nothing to do with it,, like you said the ants becoming part human was the real issue ...if Pitou just killed Kite Gon would have been sad but he would have no choice but to accept it with a clean closure... to see Kite made into a puppet really broke him but at the same time gave him hope that he could somehow get him back and that hope being destroyed by Pitou after she made him wait was the last straw...that why I don't see Gon as a "monster" his reaction is totally human, only human can have that kind of emotion and the ants, especially Meruem, are a perfect demonstration of what human emotions can do

    The plethora of minute changes in “ The King “ we got in the first episode to the “ Meruem “ we have now is absolutely brilliant across the board in terms of character writing. His mannerisms, speech patterns some changes I didn’t even notice until a couple rewatches. One of my favorites is how in the beginning he “ will not repeat himself” then when he’s with komugi at the end of the episode he does it several times over asking if she’s still beside him.

    The song "Hyouri ittai", which is played at the end of the ant version, tends to focus on the melodious part, but if you like, you can translate the lyrics and listen to it 🥲 It is very sentimental about the whole H×H.
    Thanks for the good video, though the anime story continues a bit longer! I will keep watching!

    9:04 The fact that he finally cared for his mom tho....😭and the name she gave him took his full meaning...a true ant king wouldn't care for his mom, for the past, since evolving is the sole purpose of that specie but this is the proof that his heart became fully human...but being human also means being selfish, at the end he just wanted to enjoy his last moments with the person he cared about, the rest had no importance nor meaning...Netero, Diego ...they're all selfish at the end

    Copy pasted comment
    Moves they play in Gungi signifies more in-depth meaning, read this if you want to cry more:
    Kokoriko is an advanced Gungi technique developed by Komugi that centers around isolating the King (as in the Gungi piece, not the Chimera Ant), separating it from the other pieces and killing it off. Just like Netero and the Hunters were planning to do to Meruem. However, Komugi unexpectedly develops a counter to this technique in the middle of a game, meaning that the King piece (representing Meruem) no longer has to die (since he unexpectedly survived the nuke). Then, later on, when Komugi uses Kokoriko again, she actually develops a counter to the counter ("she reversed my reversal???"), representing that the King piece (Meruem) apparently actually does have to die after all (because of the Rose's poison). However, immediately after beating Meruem using Kokoriko (symbolizing his imminent death), Komugi and Meruem start one final game together, a game that they never finish. 1-5-1 Black King -> 9-5-1 White Lieutenant General, I believe, or something to that extent. Immediately afterwards, they die together, leaving on the board Meruem's one black piece and Komugi's single white piece, together in Gungi forever. This represents that the two were always united through Gungi, and will continue to be together even after death, undisturbed and united for all eternity. Meruem places his piece down, symbolizing his death, and then Komugi responds by placing her piece down next to his, showing that she is perfectly willing to die at his side..
    The black screen/black panels in the manga show that the Rose's poison has made Meruem go blind. That's why he has to keep asking Komugi if she's still there, because he can't see her anymore. This is ironic because his name means "the light that illuminates/shines upon all". He even got some godlike light-related photon-based powers before his death, allowing him to fulfill his name. In addition, as they are playing in the bunker before their deaths, Meruem sees a blinding light radiating from Komugi as she "reverses his reversal", making her "the light that illuminates even the all-powerful light". Despite being far weaker (and blind to boot), her light shined far brighter than his. Then, as he dies, Komugi holds him and feels his head, allowing her to finally "see" or know what his face is like. Thus, as they die, Meruem joins Komugi in blindness as she joins him in death. Meruem can finally see what Komugi has been seeing all along, and knows what it feels like to be blind like her, and Komugi finally knows his face, allowing each to understand the other more as they fade away (the OST used during their death scene is called "Understanding"). Touching, isn't it? Togashi is a mastermind, and this entire story, especially this arc, is a masterpiece, a beautiful work of art, a canvas depicting love, hatred, innocence, corruption, happiness, suffering, loyalty, betrayal, anger, sadness, life, death, malevolence, destruction, resolve, determination, avarice, sacrifice, "true" power, truth, and understanding.

    I like that Netero never wanted to leave the world as a martyr or a hero, only the people who mattered to him know about the real circumstances of his death
    I was also thinking that maybe if he wanted to he could have design an ability to avoid permanent death with nen post-mortem or something like what Kite did but he lived his life to the fullest and left the world with no regrets I really admire that

  • @aristothethrone9032
    @aristothethrone9032 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ah, the pain episode. the aspects that really killed me in this arc. Is the way the king has let go of his Ego, Let go of the superiority complex. after having realized that he was beaten by Netero. and gaining the respect that he had for humans that were more than a source of food or thinking he could section off the best of them as pets to preserve their value. he meets someone that he respected, and even though in all other aspects she needed his protection.
    she still beat him time and time again, and was still in awe of her. he kept choosing to face that challenge again and again because it was the only way he could be close to her and continue to get closer to her. and he even gave her the option to leave. but she stays not just to comfort him but because she gained an appreciation for him because he treated her better than her own family did. we all think of Netero's Sacrifice.
    but Kamugi was the one that never lost to him. that in terms of humanities champions, she fought in a way that would never be acknowledged. that's why when re-watching the series. you can't help but have a 180 in terms of her first introduction. because you then understand the weight of her arrival.

    THE GENIUS ANALYSIS AND CONCLUSION from the guy called "Guy Bruh" here, READ IT PLEASE, it's worthy of your precious time.
    Guy Bruh
    Kokoriko is an advanced Gungi technique invented by Komugi that centers around isolating the King (as in the Gungi piece, not the Chimera Ant King, obviously), separating it from the other pieces and killing it off. Just like Netero and the Hunters were planning to do to Meruem. However, Komugi unexpectedly develops a counter to this technique in the middle of a game, meaning that the King piece (representing Meruem) no longer has to die (since he unexpectedly survived the nuke, Miniature Rose). Then, later on, when Komugi uses Kokoriko again, she actually develops a counter to the counter ("she reversed my reversal???"), representing that the King piece (Meruem) apparently actually does have to die after all (because of the Miniature Rose's poison).
    However, immediately after beating Meruem using Kokoriko (symbolizing his imminent death), Komugi and Meruem start one final game together, a game that they never finish. Immediately afterwards, they die together, leaving on the board Meruem's one black piece and Komugi's single white piece, together in Gungi forever. This represents that the two were always united through Gungi, and will continue to be together even after death, undisturbed and united for all eternity. Meruem places his piece down, symbolizing his death, and then Komugi responds by placing her piece down next to his, showing that she is perfectly willing to die at his side.
    The black screen where we could only see Meruem's "aura particles" and everything else was dark shows that the Rose's poison has made Meruem go blind. That's why he has to keep asking Komugi if she's still there, because he can't see her anymore (honestly, it broke my heart everytime he asked her that). This is ironic because his name means "the light that illuminates/shines upon all". In addition, as they are playing in the bunker before their deaths, Meruem sees a blinding light radiating from Komugi as she "reverses his reversal", making her "the light that illuminates even the all-powerful light". Despite being far weaker (and ironically blind as well), her light shined far brighter than his. Then, as he dies, Komugi holds him and feels his face, allowing her to finally "see" or know what his face is like. Thus, as they die, Meruem joins Komugi in blindness as she joins him in death. Meruem can finally see what Komugi has been seeing all along, and knows what it feels like to be blind like her, and Komugi finally knows his face, allowing each to understand the other more as they fade away. Even the OST that played during their death scene means "Understanding". Touching, isn't it?
    Togashi really is a mastermind, and this entire story, especially this arc, is a beautiful work of art. Depicting love, hatred, innocence, corruption, happiness, suffering, loyalty, betrayal, anger, sadness, life, death, malevolence, destruction, resolve, determination, avarice, sacrifice, "true" power, truth, and understanding. Like seriously I already thought Hunter x Hunter to be an excellently written Anime but still I expected nothing of whatever happened in this arc, I was in awe with my mouth open wide after it ended. I was like "is it the same anime!?".

    The fact that Gon never fought the antagonist of this arc is just insane. That a random human blind girl was the one who "defeated" and essentially turned the bad guy into a good one for the most part. This episode always hits. 🥹😭
