Is it possible to get pregnant after a tubal ligation?

- If you're done having babies, you're absolutely certain that you don't want to have more kids, there is a permanent form of sterility called a tubal ligation. And this is a procedure performed on a woman where the doctor ties, cuts, burns or clips the fallopian tubes. And it basically makes it so there's a "road block", and the sperm can't meet up with an egg, and you can't get pregnant. As with all procedures though, sometimes they fail. And women who have had tubal ligations have less than a 1% chance of getting pregnant. So the chance is very small that you'll get pregnant after a tubal ligation, but it is remotely possible. I've been a Labor & Delivery nurse for a lot of years, and I've taken care of women who are there because their tubal ligations failed. But it's not very common.
However, if you've been having regular periods, and the day comes when your period should start and it hasn't, then you should take a home pregnancy test. It's really easy to do, and then you can either rule out or confirm that as the cause. If the result is positive, then be sure to call your doctor and let them know that you're pregnant after having had a tubal ligation in the past, because if you conceive after a tubal ligation, the chance of an ectopic pregnancy is pretty high. So the doctor will probably want to rule that out as soon as possible. If you're result is negative, wait another 5 to 7 days, and if you still haven't started your period, take another test, because it's possible that that first result was a false negative, because it was taken a little bit too soon before HCG levels were high enough to be detected by the home pregnancy test. So retest about a week later, and if that result is still negative, then continue to track your bleeding patterns. And if you go 3 months without a period, you have bleeding or spotting between periods, you have abnormally long periods of bleeding where you're bleeding for 8 days or longer, you have heavy bleeding, or there's anything else that you're concerned about, call your doctor. And after asking you more specific questions, they'll decide if further investigation or treatment is warranted in your circumstances. I’m in the process of talking to my doctor about this procedure I’m on the pill now and have been ever since 2017 never have had any problems til the last pack when I missed dose on the second week due to stomach bug and but then took the next pill the next day and every day after that I had a irregular period light on the Friday before last not enough to stain my underwear and then Saturday my bleeding was regular and then on Sunday it was light again and 4 packs into the pill I started suffering severe nausea 3 neg pregnancy tests so rules that out but I’m done this nausea crap Is for the birds I promise I waited 7 days before intercorce but I can’t do this anymore I’m done.
But how does the sperm get to the other side to meet and fertilise the egg if the fallopian tube is cut and both ends are cautorized???
I believe it’s after years of the sworn hitting into the opening that was seen and after a time the break through.

All it takes is for one end to grow back a new path
I had mine done when I was 26, I got pregnant 2 months off of BC at 29, then again this year at 30. I think I fall above that

Me too. I had my tubes tied at 26. And was using BC for menstrual cramps. Currently going thru a miscarriage. I hope I never go thru this again. It's horrible

Mine were cut and sewn. The docs were like oh it used to happen but now so much less likely. Practically not likely it just won’t happen because we don’t just tie them. Yeah well, it happened.

Same as for a regular pregnancy, that's why she recommended a pregnancy test if your period is late.

You can ask for your medical records to see what procedure they did on you, the cost for a Reverse tubal ligation can be up to $6000 that would be your best option.

No. That’s ridiculous: these surgeries aren’t 100% and I’m sure you signed plenty of paperwork explaining the statistics. Every birth control method has its faults.

@@gingersnap3024 did she have to pay for it? I had my tubal ligation done about a year ago, and i didnt want to have it done but the doctors recommend that i had it done. I really want more kids. Ive had 4 c sections and my last 2 were back to back so that is why they recommend i have it done but i totally regret it.

I never thought that you can but when I talk to some of my family they told me that I have to check every five years to see if my tubes still tied. I didn't know that and back then in 99 the doctor didn't tells me that. I just only had mines tied. Now haven't see my period over three months. Got all the pregnancy symptoms. Right now my body temperature goes up and down. My husband came out and told me that I'm pregnant do to his symptoms. I took a test first response and it came out a faint line yes you can see it very well. I did it the right way. I'm noticing when I do take a pregnancy test I'm normally don't get a faint line or positive line because I wasn't pregnant but a faint line and that you can see it shock. So I guess my hcg levels is low and going to take another one next week but my aunt as a nurse told me why take another one a line is a line and one one line always going to be lighter then the other one. I'm still going through the pains, back pains, headache, eating a lot, craving for sweets, chest hurts, ear was drained, got gas, bloated stomach, moody, skin color turns lighter and smooth, toothache, urine alot, bowel movement sometimes, hot flashes, tender of chest and etc.
