As a non-native English speaker, I find it difficult to understand any Scottish accent at first. But it made me pay extra attention to what the person I was listening to is talking about. Also, I do agree that people who don't try to understand something's been said just because it wasn't delivered in an American or English accent, are just plainly lazy. 😒

Love the video! Keep them coming. Scotland and England, the US and Canada. Same issues and problems. I live in the Pacific Northwest of the US at the 45th parallel. Almost the same latitude as Scotland. We get about four months of good weather (more sunny days than rainy days). But once the middle of October hits, it's six to seven months of rain and gloom and short days. We have a saying here in my State. Oregonians rust, we don't tan. The mascots for our two major State universities are a duck and a beaver. Not exactly dry land or desert animals. And your accent is just fine. Much easier to understand after I've been drinking a few.

I'm American I never confuse the Irish and Scottish accents. My Dad's parents were Irish and my mother's parents were Scottish. My mom's cousin used to come over from Scotland and I could always understand everything he said UNTIL he had a few drinks. Then I couldn't understand a word. I remember he came over once when I was about 7 and my sister was 5. He said to my sister, "My aren't you a pretty little lassie". I started to laugh and point at my sister. He looked at my mom all confused so she had to tell him that Lassie was the name of a children's TV show and Lassie was a dog.

What annoys me the most of being Scottish is that my country has never got any land reform so half of Scotland is owned by 432 private landowners who won't allow construction/development/repopulation of abandoned land. Before the Highland clearances, more people lived in the Highlands and Islands than the Lowlands and the Borders. It never got back as it once was and there's so much fertile land that could be used to grow plants and boost the local economy

I'm from London, but one of my best mates is from the highlands. Its like the Universal Translator in Star Trek. People freak out when he speaks like he's speaking some obscure Gaelic dialect but he's just speaking English with an accent, nothing more. Its actually weird understanding everything he says, whilst other people look at him like hes just been dug out of some archaeological dig in the Faroe Islands.

I'm American I never confuse the Irish and Scottish accents. My Dad's parents were Irish and my mother's parents were Scottish. My mom's cousin used to come over from Scotland and I could always understand everything he said UNTIL he had a few drinks. Then I couldn't understand a word. I remember he came over once when I was about 7 and my sister was 5. He said to my sister, "My aren't you a pretty little lassie". I started to laugh and point at my sister. He looked at my mom all confused so she had to tell him that Lassie was the name of a children's TV show and Lassie was a dog.

It anoyys me (and gives me amusement) when foreigners assume I'm English, you tell them that you're Scottish and they go 'oh so you're British'. I say no I'm Scottish, they say yes but that's British. I then point out to them that the Romans were scared of the magic mushroom eating nut jobs in Scotland, built a wall and called the land Caledonia so it's not actually Britain, then I ask them if they how to catch a haggis 😈

What annoys me the most of being Scottish is that my country has never got any land reform so half of Scotland is owned by 432 private landowners who won't allow construction/development/repopulation of abandoned land.
Before the Highland clearances, more people lived in the Highlands and Islands than the Lowlands and the Borders. It never got back as it once was and there's so much fertile land that could be used to grow plants and boost the local economy

I'm from London, but one of my best mates is from the highlands. Its like the Universal Translator in Star Trek. People freak out when he speaks like he's speaking some obscure Gaelic dialect but he's just speaking English with an accent, nothing more. Its actually weird understanding everything he says, whilst other people look at him like hes just been dug out of some archaeological dig in the Faroe Islands.

I live in New Zealander, but the worst thing I find about being Scottish is as soon as I say where I’m from everyone says they’ve got some Scot’s in them…their great great great granny or grandad…..I usually just roll me eyes.
