Valorant's competitor is not League, but rather CS. It's a fps game that targets zoomers, as CS is kinda like a 'classic' for fps players and boomers. I think Valorant has been showing exponential growth both as a game and as an esport, while CS is showing impressive stability as always, even with s1mple's short break from proplay.
League's competitor has always been Dota, but sadly Valve kinda withdrew their concentration from this esports with that TI prize pool thing and LoL seems to have no competitor in the current time(excluding mobile games), considering the extreme viewership they show which doesnt even include China.

FPS games just does not hit the same as MOBAS when it comes to watching. I don't know what it is but I just feel disconnected when watching FPS tournaments. For MOBAS, even if I don't know what's happening 90% of the time I can enjoy and scream "HE DIDN'T USE FLASH!"

I actually stopped watching Domestic league a good few years ago. It's sad, I do miss it. I used to watch LCK/LEC/LCS with the occasional LPL thrown in here and there. Problem is you grow up, work full time, you want to come home and play games, you don't have the time for it that you once did. Of course I could make time if I wanted to, but it just doesn't give me the reason to want to. G2 and Fnatic's standards have dropped considerably since 2018-2020 period. When you see other teams at the top come end of split you realise that EU just isn't as good as it used to be and so I watch worlds and MSI with the hope that EU can show up and give me a reason to watch domestic again, but I'm mainly watching to see if Faker can lift another trophy

This is super super niche but I noticed one of the students in the Korean Class (0:51), Brandon Sheppard was a league content creator who went to work for Riot and then quit.
Well if you think about it: Valorant has a big competion like CS2 which has outstanding viewership also it is a fresh game. Dota tournaments have never been as good as league's so there is no real competitor for riot like in a valorant's case
The problem with valorant is that there is no faker or simple of valorant, every year when valorant gets an all time MVP, they struggle the year after and fall off, I'm sure if valorant finally gets their faker then maybe the viewership will grow year by year but right now it's really hard to find one team to root for

League isn't dying, they were just receiving "lesser support" compared to when they were the sole game riot had for esports.
MOBA is really just an underappreciated genre. People don't realize how satisfying it is to watch. It is so kuch easier to watch and League is benefitting from that. Plus this game has Faker. Valorant and other shooter games are not only hard to follow but they don't have an icon.
League has the backing of South Korea and China, two markets that didn't show much interest in esports like Valorant
League is just so ingrained in the culture, but it depends on what kind of games younger gamers grow up with. For example, starcraft was extremely popular back then when league started, but overtime league overtook starcraft. We will never know what game will become popular. Even in China there's still a huge scene for many older esport games like warcraft and starcraft, though not as huge as its peak. At some point league will have to go as it will not age super well as technology gets better and the games kids grow up with will shift

LoL have been going for so long I feel a lot of people that haven't play league even in years still watches Worlds, I don't think LoL is dying but is fair to say compared with Valorant here the active player base and new players are lower, meanwhile the interest for competitive Valorant is a lot smaller but I have idea what it is other than maybe League just have a bigger amount of people that have growth watching competitive for a while.

Quite a stupid comparison to put League against Valorants concurrent viewers, they’re run by the same business. Also that Valorant is barely over 4 years old but league is 12 years old. Don’t see a reason to compare the 2 games they’re completely different. They also aren’t exactly competitors

Both games are doing well in different areas. Valorant has been alot more popular in south east asia and north America

China was huge viewership since edg was winning, and they also like valorant anyways, whereas cs doesnt pull shit in china. Always remember that east asia and sea are where viewers are for esports which is why cs will never be as big as any tencent owned game viewership wise
