Is Xinjiang tourist-friendly? We went to discover it on our one-day tour in Urumqi!
The first question we had before going to Xinjiang was "Is Xinjiang tourist-friendly"? Luckily, it wasn't our first time here so we already knew the answer would be positive. Urumqi is our second attempt at exploring the province and we weren't disappointed this time either. Even though we only had one day in Urumqi, we managed to see the Grand Bazaar, Red Hill, and People's Park. All of these you'll be able to see in the video we created just for you. So, in a few words, if you're looking for an interesting place to visit, consider Urumqi in Xinjiang. It's got a cool mix of cultures, and there's plenty to see and do. Urumqi is definitely worth a visit if you get the chance!

hottest flame mountain in taklamakan desert can reach until 80°C,
and in cold snow season can reach until -52°C

Urumchi is Mongol name. Mongols named it, when it was under Mongols control, under Mongol Dzungar khanate. Today’s Xinjiang is only small part of Dzungarian khanate, Russia and Manchu Qing dynasty took over by dividing Dzungar khanate in 1700s.

Unfortunately, we didn`t have time to go outside Urumqi but we have visited Kashgar and Turpan, too. All of these places were great!

You should have walked past the Grand Bazzar & avoided the tourist trap show that it is. Head off into the little side streets around the city, explore & try the delicious food on offer, both Uighur & Han!!

I recommend other parts of Xinjiang to visit as well, e.g. Aksu, Hotan, Kashgar, Turpan, Yili Prefecture and Kanas Lake.
Yes, we have been to Turpan and Kashgar - they were stunning! And there are so many more places to visit up in the north!
