@orangealiens8201 I have 2 weeks left in SDI and yes it's a bullshit school. Instead of teaching gunsmithing they teach how to run a gun shop and other crap one doesn't sign up for. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. The only reason I am completing the "course" is because they will charge you even if you drop out
My 870 broke the ejection clip off a few years back. No idea how but it still cycles just fine. Moss burg is a phenomenal gun too though. Either one will get the job done well.
The maverick 88 is identical to the moss 500. It’s literally just the mass produced model. The only difference is the action bars are fixed to the pump. $200 vs $500, I’ll take a maverick or two.
@@mikeykay1898 You're trying to say that. 1990's mossberg 500 a 1990's mossberg 500. It's 100% identical to this Maverick. 88 you're talking about. I think you need to go back to sleep and wake back up in reality, sir. I'd put my 500 up against that 88. Any day do 5000 rounds. And we'll see who's on top. Like guarantee that 88 aint gonna compare to that 500. There's a reason why it's so cheap. But you do have your own opinion. And I can't be mad at you for that. I'm sorry, I'm a strong believer. I panicked bought the maverick with the 28 inch hunting barrel during peak covid thinking I could buy a security barrel later for cheap. A new barrel is as expensive as a new shotgun but I bought the 18.5 inch barrel anyway 6 months ago for $130 used on an ebay bid war I won. TFB TV does a torture test with a maverick and it held up the whole way th😢
Had my 88 for about 3 years now and man that shoty is fun to shoot. I've taken my friends to the range to shoot all my guns and everyone falls in love with the maverick and are always surprised to hear I paid under 225 for it. Thing is a beast. Out of 500 shells I only had one minor malfunction but it was due to the cartridge. Best boomstick for the price.
I had a maverick 88 for years. They feel cheaper than rem 870 and mossbrrg 500. It definitely was reliable tho. Put hundreds of shells through without any issues
My number 1 is my old 8 shot, 18" barrel Winchester 1300 defender. I've had it for about 25 years, and it's never failed. I've never had to replace a single part either. I'll never part with that one.
Having seen The Maverick (Mossberg's least expensive offering) survive the 500round burn down challenge, i will never question it's reliability or durability. Plus it's made in Texas!
Just a note about the maverick, the feed gate is milled out to the point that if you’re using anything smaller than 2 1/2” the shell end will fall through the hole and when single shot side loading with any size they can still fall through if you let it fall front end first because it’s bigger than the shell but not bigger than the brass. Nevertheless, Still a really solid shotgun though.
Stoegers are decent. The Maverick is the best deal though. Any semi automatic shotgun, just hose the action with heavy oil and keep em clean. Cheap automatic shotguns are tough to keep running.
Recently pick up a Maverick 88. First new weapon I’ve purchased. And it’s amazing! Easy to load and easy to shoot and (if you can afford it). You can change out the barrels and stocks.
I own a maverick 88 combo with a 18.5 inch security barrel and 28 inch field barrel which I paid only $289 for back in 2020 and a Hawk 982 12 gauge or Chinese “870 clone” for $199 back in 2010. Those are my two favorite “budget shotguns”
Impala plus on sale...great lightweight recoil driven bird gun....they made parts for benelli, winchester, beretta, etc....for years before making their own...great gun
Maverick 88 has to be on the list, and high on the list too. If you want high quality from a name brand for not a lot of money, Maverick 88 would most likely be your best bet.
Lil over budget but I personally bought my first Shottie couple weeks ago, got a STEAL on an ITHICA MODEL 37 pump action beautiful high grade walnut furniture on it. Paid 350 for it used. Super cool, only has one port on bottom for loading an ejecting with an overly complex but super cool and reliable system to make that feed/ejection process work timed perfectly. Gun is old school as it’s been around since they started the model 87 early enough to actually be used in WW2 Along side the “trench gun” also capable of slam fire like the trench gun. It’s well built, steal is twice as thick or 50 percent thicker in the places that matter without adding way too much weight. Issa nice one boys 9.69 outta ten 😉would recommend
For those of you looking for a sub $$400 “ shotgun” another one to consider would be the rock Island armory/armscorp PF14. It is very similar to the Mossberg 590 shockwave and it is my favorite 12 gauge that I have. Very compact at 27 inches overall length and it is a non-NFA firearm
1 and 2 would be the only ones on this list I would buy but I've bought a Mossberg m500 field model new for 214 before.... it's just hard too beat Mossberg
I love my maverick 88 security. I put a folding pistol grip stock on it and a tactical foregrip with a light laser and foregrip combo on it. That baby is awesome.
If you’re paying any more than this, your next and only option for a pump should be the Winchester SXP, such a fabulous shotgun. Nothing matches how smooth the action is, how fast it shoots, and also how many variations it comes in. I have a 28” barrel hybrid field hunter with a 3 1/2 inch chamber all for the pretty dope bargain of about $430. Probably never gonna replace it with anything other than a semi auto
Also for anyone who likes classic double barrels, a company called Yildiz makes some awesome shotguns for around 400-500 dollars, feel like twice the value once you've got it in your hands.
All mavericks are assembled in Texas. Mossberg owns maverick and they make parts, mostly in Mexico and assemble them all in one facility in Eagle Pass, Texas that only mass produces mavericks. That’s why they’re so cheap. Might go get the security model now. Love my 88, the tried and true.
Ngl I was super butt hurt that the mossberg 500 wasn’t on this list, then I googled maverick 88, it’s just a mossberg 500a with a safety switch that makes since on a modern shotgun. Touché my good man.
The cheapest shotgun I'd bet my life on is a reconverted from import status Winchester sxp. Amazing gun. Beyond that, I've had a citadel shotgun blowup on me so I wouldn't trust it, and from my experience with a shockwave (sample size of one), pump action does not automatically equal reliable
Man that Axor folder shotgun would be awesome to own. A shotgun you can hide in a secret or small space to put around the house just in case. And of course if you need a second one always trust a shotgun coming from Texas. Reliable.
