      Timmy-Joe, Watching video, love old hardware also... Did you ever swap out a mosfet or capacitor, fix bent/broken usb port or any ports having to use a soldering iron? I always worry with the really older boards without solid state capacitors that one will blow, I have the concept down however never fixed one yet... I have a board that I LOVED for my 1100t which was a really RARE Jetway however one of the mosfets blown (I can see and smell it) so it throws out the FF code everytime now... I am not throwing it away as I KNOW if that can be changed that the board will POST again but I never did it. I wish some of these bigger PC oriented TH-camrs would do some videos with a soldering iron to MOBO's!.... BTW: As for the "Best" imo, it only matters what you LIKE the best... We mess around with enough hardware to know if we like a motherboard for instance almost immediately. Even if its one that is a pain in the ass to get running GREAT!.... Sometimes those are the BEST. #RARE

      You're channel is the best hidden gem I have ever found! I can't wait to binge watch all of your content, thank you for creating this awesome channel!!! I was sent here via Timmy Joe. I started building PC's right before the P4's and AMD Athlon series debuted. That is one of the reasons I love this channel so much, because it takes me back to the glory days of socket A :) Love this channel!!!!!

    Oh wow, bring me back my memory working with this beautiful machine. So powerful on those day back to 1992. With the SCO Unix OS, this machine could run smoothly for some enterprise applications. Back then, using the multiport this server can handle 8 Wyse terminal with no problem at all. The server technology itself belongs to Altos Inc. which later being acquired by Acer when they started to play into Server market and try to enter the North American market.

    The "strange expansion card" is a multi-port serial adapter.The external box attaches to it, with one of the big fat cables. Using the box, you can attach up to 8 serial terminals to it, allowing 9 people simultaneously to work on the machine (one sitting at the console).
    The software on it is UNIX, Sco SysVR3.2.2. It can feed the 8 terminals.
    As you did not attach the box to the card and no terminal to the box, the system spew out loads of errors once booted, as it attempted to "attach" the missing terminals (the getty process).
    Too bad, you are not into UNIX. This is a precious machine, as it was one of the few serious attempts at countering Microsoft with UNIX. I used to have a very similar system in 1987 or 1988, doing lots of UNIX stuff and programming (yes, I'm a UNIX guy). Systems like that where the cheapest way to get to UNIX. With "cheap" meaning several thousand US-$ ...

    Be a waste to put MSDOS on that, I would look at putting Windows NT 3.1 on due to the age of the hardware, or novell netware.

    • @procta2343
      @procta2343 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @smakfu i thought NT 3.1 was geared for the 386 going into the 486 era. i know that 3.51 was geared for the 486 and pentium. I have a dual processor pentium 3 rocking NT 3.51 server, with 4 gig of ram, and it goes like stink, its not faster with the 4 gig than it was with 1 gig. ( just used the rest of the ram for the sake of it)

    I think that ATI card is a "VGA Wonder" of some model type and would guess that host card is for the terminals. This must have been built at the end of the 386 life span to have 72 pin memory modules.

    • @RETROHardware
      @RETROHardware  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep this can be fastest 386 with 72 pin modules. Not sure with VGA if should call this wonder but I'am not expert around so old cards. www.vgamuseum.info/index.php/component/k2/item/73-ati-28800-6-vga-1024d-integra-wonder-xl-stereo-f-x

    You can be sure that the object ist damaged, when all you see is newspapers, while opening the parcel. I hate those sellers. They put the electronic devices on the bottom of the package an fill it up with newspaper supplements...

    I would slap in a 40MHz CPU with a 387 co-processor and max out the RAM and cashe. Maybe even toss in a 3com Etherlink III and toss on some Serial Terminals and have a little BBS going.

      In this mainboard, 1133e M.B that its board marking, such as PCB P/N and project code that supposed as P/N was similar to Wistron laptop and desktop mainboard, because Wistron founded as Acer spin-off, a I know that such spin-off was from Acer Information Products and Acer International Services in 2001.
