Just last night I was telling my wife about the styles and methods the pastors of Redeemer use for these daily teachings! I said they’re different but ALL godly men that rightly handle God’s Word. Great explaining how leadership is to be chosen and what it takes to stay in those positions. Thank you Costi!!!!

Thanks for the “16 minute sermon” that brought back to my mind so many of the points that we heard in last year’s Titus series. 🙏🏻

@Redeemer Bible Church Not sure if y'all read these comments. However, I'm a woman, and I loved this. This is sound doctrine. You are putting Biblical Truth out there. *How very sad there's so few subs and views. Love what you're doing. Also glad you're not a T.V. FAKE!*

I've felt called to be a pastor for a long time now. I feel like I've ignored it long enough. This is a daunting list.

What if o feel the Lord telling me to pastor as well as having been prophecied over by multiple people over the years to lead people and teach the word…. But my wife does want the life style. She would follow me no matter what if I make the decision to do so but I asked for her honest opinion.

If I, as a young guy, (18 years old) desire to be a pastor/elder one day, and have struggled with mortifying sexually immoral practices, would that disqualify me from partaking in that office? Ever since I was converted, becoming a pastor has been the desire of my heart. I truly desire this office. Is there any way I can become a pastor still?

Great question. 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9 are two key passages from the Bible that tell us the qualifications needed to be an elder/pastor.
The overarching qualification from both of those passages is to be "above reproach." No elder/pastor is perfect but to be "above reproach," which means that that pattern of his life would be such that no accusation of sinful character would "stick." Specifically, regarding sexual sin, the following qualifications would apply: he must be "a husband of one wife...not open to the charge of debauchery...a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined" (Titus 1:6, 8) and "a husband of one wife...self-controlled...not a recent convert" (1 Timothy 3:2, 6). God completely forgives our sins (1 John 1:9). However, if you are not repentant of these sins, that is, you have not forsaken these sins in such a way that the pattern of your life is no longer one who is enslaved to this sin, then you should wait to become an elder/pastor until the pattern of your life reflects self-control, holiness, and sexual purity. If God has called you to ministry and the pattern of your life is "above reproach," then we would encourage you to: pursue Christ, walk in His grace and mercy, serve in your local church, be discipled by an older man, and be trained for ministry by attending a solid bible college and/or seminary. We would also recommend the book "Pastoral Ministry" by John MacArthur as a good resource for becoming a pastor. - Todd

How can a pastor or elder that has been divorced and remarried counsel a couple about marriage?

So I've seen quite a few red flags from my church pastor, most concerning is that he has cheated on his wife more than once and was caught with pornography on his computers... Although this was over a handful of years, he was pastoring at that time.. And some others in our leadership have been caught in adultery too... How do you discern if they are truly repentant, and should they be still be pastoring?
