June 93 , I was a working as an Arborist for Brighton BOROUGH Council based at Stanmer Park, Saw these guys first time that night, .Heineken Music Festival. Seen then more times than i can count now all over London, south west, From the cheese and grain to Bath and DEVON
Always fun watching a singer try to remember the words to his own song. Possibly shouldn't have had 15 beers before going on stage. Mostly right, with a few exceptions. - I wrote down the lyrics to Fifteen Years for a presentation at University around 1994, so I had to listen to the song many, many times, because computers then weren't what they are today, plus I was playing the song on a tape deck, which was a bit of a chore.
Amazing I absaloutly love the levelers I see them every but not this year its anoying because all my friends dont nkow the levelers but my maths teacher at primary school knows them and ive just moved up into secondary school and I find there music relaxing if I get a bit nervers
The first proper band and gig i went to Aberdeen music hall around that time, awesome the energy was incredible completely bouncing. Wish I still had the energy that young lad had, but still think I'm him! 😂😂😂
saw em at Lincoln 3 years ago, doing the Leveling the Land Tour 20th Anniversary. 8 quid for a mug, 20 quid a T-shirt! had my camera confiscated by security! The band played perfect but no interaction with the crowd WHATSOEVER! So much for the sentiment but real life and mortgages must have got in the way eh lads! Dead Kennedys did a song which summed up my feelings after seeing them "Anarchy for Sale"!
k mc i was seriously underwhelmed last couple of times I saw em (2000 and 2005) but maybe just bad nights? To be honest they havn't done themselves any favours by relying mainly on the old standards so much. Variety is the spice of life and as Artist's especially you always want to be doing new things otherwise it just gets stale doesn't it?!
@@patkelly3966 they really haven't released a decent album since Zeitgeist - a full quarter of a century ago ! They are probably all too aware that their audience isn't there to hear songs from their mouth-to-mouth album nor obscure b-sides !
@@revol148 To be honest I thought Static on the Airwaves was a cracking album, certainly the best since Levelling the Land and I'm a fan of Mouth to Mouth too but I get your point entirely. After Zeitgeist came out I watched the audience change quite a lot. No more students or crusties but rather youngs kids and their middle-aged parents. Not necessarily a bad thing but certainly different from when I first saw em. They should've never re-toured Levelling...it seemed like pure money grabbing to me. What do you think to their newest stuff? I'm not really feeling it much.
@@patkelly3966 The last time I saw them live was at the Kendal calling festival back in 2015 - they were good but not a patch on their Glastonbury headlining show from 21 years earlier! I have no knowledge of what they have done since mouth to mouth album - I guess they are now just a band now living on their past times and if they get the urge to release disappointing, under-heard albums then fair enough to them.
I met you in 8 2, over a crate of beer and not a few I cracked a can and so did you, we’re going to change the world The ghetto kings of down side town-the estates and parks of our hallowed ground Doing anything that we found, and on the river flowed You’d take a drink from Rev. Jimmy Jones You’d cross the street on the path the gunman roams Thrown aside and left to waste, that was you, you knew your place Wander round, get off your face, and on the river flowed On and on the river flow, we are the undertow On and on the river flow, we are the undertow I don’t know how you made it through all the smoke and brew you do It sure has left it’s mark on you but tires still with us today Life goes on and round we go and words can kill these things I know Sometimes you cut deeply so, but on the river flows You’d set the table for barber Sweeney Todd You’d clip the wings of any rising god But man can’t live on hope alone, it can be but all that is grown Broke your spirit but not your bones and on the river flows On and on the river flow, we are the undertow On and on the river flow, we are the undertow You’re working now, forced to the race I know it left a bitter taste But the rising tide had covered your face Nothing you could do But I still remember the day you said That the river flowing through my head Would take me far or leave me dead And all you said was true

Where were you when I was sat at a mate's computer in 1994, playing this song on a tape deck , pressing pause/stop/rewind and trying to type out the lyrics? And then print them out on a dot matrix printer. All for a presentation to my peers (who were probably all pissed) at a lecture in University about the effects of drinking to excess.
No festival is complete without the levellers 🎉
Pinkpop just didnt get the levellers sitting down unacceptable
@@ih8utoob51 yup i used to love pinkpop but nah
This song became reality for a lot of people eventually , time and tide waits for no man , but its never to late , fight the demons .
🙌🏻
Amen to that!
The lyrics are insane. Long live the Levellers.

was a good performance. was there as a 14 year old kid
Excellent! Better music than this you are extremely unlikely to find... Love'em!
I sadly, and stupidly missed the at Sheffield Poly Union in the 80's which I regret. I love 15 years and think I have it on 10 inch
Brilliant thing about the levellers, same line up... same total brilliance ☘️
Oh yeah!
Saw them recently, they were amazing but I wish I could see them back in the 90's
Best band in the world!
Annie Donnan great song but manic street preachers are much better
Love Them Seen So Many Times

@k mc I know mate.....you type this rant under most Levellers videos here! Did you get round to buying an eight pound mug in the end?

I like them
We all made it through. Yes true facts
I met you in 8 2, over a crate of beer and not a few
I cracked a can and so did you, we’re going to change the world
The ghetto kings of down side town-the estates and parks of our hallowed ground
Doing anything that we found, and on the river flowed
You’d take a drink from Rev. Jimmy Jones
You’d cross the street on the path the gunman roams
Thrown aside and left to waste, that was you, you knew your place
Wander round, get off your face, and on the river flowed
On and on the river flow, we are the undertow
On and on the river flow, we are the undertow
I don’t know how you made it through all the smoke and brew you do
It sure has left it’s mark on you but tires still with us today
Life goes on and round we go and words can kill these things I know
Sometimes you cut deeply so, but on the river flows
You’d set the table for barber Sweeney Todd
You’d clip the wings of any rising god
But man can’t live on hope alone, it can be but all that is grown
Broke your spirit but not your bones and on the river flows
On and on the river flow, we are the undertow
On and on the river flow, we are the undertow
You’re working now, forced to the race I know it left a bitter taste
But the rising tide had covered your face
Nothing you could do
But I still remember the day you said
That the river flowing through my head
Would take me far or leave me dead
And all you said was true
Great
I never was a violent man 👨
Said the man in the bar with his head in his hands 🙌
He’s trying his best to understand the ‘cause of his dismay 😧
But the years of gin have broken him
They’ve left him cold where he’s fitted in
But it’s too late now to turn around and find another way
And the lights in the late night lock-in
Have faded away when he gets in
The girl from 15 years ago
Has packed and gone away
That’s never how it used to be, what happened to all that energy
You took one too many liberties, I’m tired of being afraid 😳
So after the fight she took flight ✈️ hiding swollen eyes and a wounded pride
The best years of her life denied is sold for liquid shares
And the lights in the late night lock-in
Have faded away when he gets in
The girl from 15 years ago
Has packed and gone away
And the victims of their world 🗺
Are advertised on posters
Just a beach 🏖 and a pretty girl 👧
You just take this potion
It’s another week till his check comes through
He’s got a fiver left to spend on food 🍱
The doors of the bar are open and he breaks another rule
But he sits on the stool that bears his name
He’s got a favourite glass an’ is called the same
He’s never been kept waiting, ‘cause he pays the landlords wage
And the lights in the late night lock-in
Have faded away when he gets in
The girl from 15 years ago
Has packed and gone away
The lights in the late night lock-in
Have faded away when he gets in
The girl from 15 years ago
Has packed and gone away

Sooo gooood!!!
I always thought there was a bank of tarts playing the violins....saw them live and I saw a six footer blonde.....blew my mind!
That long ago.
One for jed not with any more bless you
RIP
Most bands shorten the set list to they can read it quick....
The Levellers always spell Rivaflow on the setlist instead of Riverflow....... Dutch CAN spell....
Waren ze er ook in ‘94? Ik dacht alleen ‘95..??
Anyone else listening in 2025
I miss seeing crusties
It's true if you understand pub life
so what! haha... listen to the song.!! nowt 2 do wi the spelling...you plonker!!
If only they had a proper bass player...
Diggnuts he may not be the best player in the world but he's written the majority of the band's songs.
And the Art on the Covers
oh ninth grade....
