  • A big question Katie was asked was "why she bought the Dremel Digilab Laser Cutter" verses all the other laser cutter options out there.
    Here are her thoughts on this vs other laser cutters. Her previous overview video is linked below.

    I purchased the OmTech 1620 with a pass through bed, rotary attachment, and Industrial Chiller for around $4,000.00. There is no way I would waste my money on any individual "Brand" like Gloforge, Epilog, or even Dremel. 90% of the cost is to support the name, and not the product. Mike, over at NovoWorks Color Imaging has put out some great videos on the OmTech laser, and is my mentor. If I have any questions, I can personally reach out to him to get the answers. The best program for running any laser, and I use it for all of mine, though a bit pricey is LightBurn. If a laser doesn't support it, then that would be another reason to shy away from it. One doesn't need to learn a different program for each laser they own, and I have 3 at the moment.

    I’ve been out of the laser researching for many years so I’m not sure if anyone still uses photograv or not anymore, but we use it all the time for etching photos on wood. You import a greyscale photo, select the material, and export a perfect ready to print image. Works even better on black tile but our products are wood.

      The difference is that GLOWFORGE is running from cloud and Dremel runs of your personal device. There are cons in both. The same tube as far as I understand.

      The Squirrel Its all about the hype. Got to get a fast return to the initial investors who waited a long time beyond the forecasted product intro date. Check out the pricing when you put one in the checkout cart. It shows $16,000 marked down to $6,000. Give me a break! But don’t get a Muse before you read their BBB complaints. Blow your mind! This whole consumer desktop laser thing is problematic....6 month warranty including the tube which is they most expensive part, no transparency so some are pulling more power from a 35w tube to advertise 40w and burning up tubes and power supplies, only email support and the list goes on.

      @@danielolivermcelroy8320 I have been researching this and yes the glowforge and have watched all your wife's videos on the LC40. I do have a question if you don't mind asking. I have been out on Dremel's site and it looks like the last software version was released a year ago. My main question is are this still updating it, but now doing it more OTA to the Dremel being connected to the internet? I looked everywhere and not much detail information as the glowforge, of course, is only working with the internet. I'm not a fan of that feature and would rather go with Dremel, but this is more for my wife. thanks!!

    2nd question: I got a sample of something laser cut at a show that was made of wood. I took the object home. This object stunk my entire house up for days with the smell of burned wood. How has that been addressed?

    • @HalfAssHomestead
      @HalfAssHomestead 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clear coating the product, after cutting and sanding it smooth. Also, applying masking tape before cutting to keep the wood from charring is beneficial.

    Am I able to contour cut "around" a predetermined shape? For instance, if I have material with a design in the middle; am I able to cut away the outside waste material while preserving my design in the middle?

    • @HalfAssHomestead
      @HalfAssHomestead 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends on the wattage of the material, and the type and thickness you are looking to work with. Even a 100 watt CO2 laser, will have difficulty cutting through anything thicker than 13mm (1/2"). Note, if you are going to run a laser of any kind, you need to learn the metric system, as that is the only supported method.

    This in no way sold me on this machine... broken parts, small print area, slow, small community of users, expensive. There was no information about the laser size, cutting ability, what that box is, the unit is hooked up to, which sorta looks like a mini glycol chiller. This seems like a warning. Screw it I'm buying a Trotec

      I bought a Full Spectrum machine and had trouble within 3 months. They told me it was my fault the laser tube busted when it froze, I ask them what do I use to prevent this. They told me of a special antifreeze they used. I ask them why the don't inform us if this in their instructions. They said most people use these in a heated room. I use mine in my shop which is outside. I have had numerous problems with the FS machine, I spent more time on the phone than them trying to figure out how to work it. I had severl boards to burn up without being able to get a new one because they upgraded the one I have. now it is trash. I agree don't get a FS.

      The extra box is a water cooling system which to my understanding glowforge does not have, and in fact has a overheating issue. This is my very beginning research on the Dremel so I can't say much for them. But the glowforge is cloud based, so it won't work if your internet access is spotty, or if the company goes under, and legally they can take and use any of your designs, so really not ideal in my book. I'm here to compare the Dremel to the muse 3d, which I absolutely know is better then glowforge

But if you are not skilled in graphics why would you want to get involved in this industry to begin with ?? Personally Im gonna start w the chinese laser cutter and I also want a glowforge pro as well as the dremel . start w a 500 investment and see if i can justify a glowforge then the dremel it's all so very exciting to me !!!!
