What an incredible new technique to try! So beautiful! I can’t wait and am putting this on my list of things to do in my journals. Thanks for sharing ❤!
Thanks ❤️ I'm so glad you enjoyed it 😊
Love this paper dying system!
Thank you!
I think the reason for not having success when trying to stencil after letting the papers dry is because the papers won't lay flat. After coffee dying and drying, wet the paper again with plain water. Use just enough water to flatten the paper on both sides. Apply the stencil and make the coffee a little stronger...also you might try using a $ store plastic tablecloth so all your coffee goodness is absorbed by the paper.. Not sure all this would work out as it is in my head but worth a shot!! Love the paint method, great stencils!!!❤
I like the paint technique. I try it! I love how the stencil came out
I hope you try it. It's really easy & fun! Thank you 😊
Brilliant!
Thanks Shannon ❤️
I use a spray bottle and you can make interesting coffee drips with this too. The spray bottle goes faster than using a paint brush.
Thank you! I will try that
I use a spray bottle, too. So fast. Then I put my oven on 170 and the papers are dried very quickly. I keep a mini spray bottle for quick adds of drips and mists.
Beautiful, can't wait to try this!
Thanks! Have fun !
I use a spray bottle-room temp, and I do stacks with paper on each side of the stencil for the stencil print and the negative. I put a little rubbing alcohol in my instant coffee mixture so it won’t grow funk.
I feed the birds, and I open up the tops and bottoms of the sunflower seed bags after emptying them and slice down the seam. They make fantastic craft mats and protect my surfaces from paint, glue, and coffee
I didn't know how to use coffee with the stencils, thank you for sharing
Glad it was helpful!
I do coffee dyed papers in my garage with coffee in a fine mist spray bottle, a big piece of recycled cardboard box on the floor or table.
Great idea!! Thx!
I do that with the coffee and then I tease my husband by telling him that I made him a lovely cup of coffee.
Haha 😄
Great tutorial! Thank you.😊
Thank you Brenda! 😊
Wow! That was simple and beautiful! Thanks, I'm a new subscriber 😃
Thank you Robin. I'm happy to hear you liked it.. it is really easy.
Love these last pages that you showed us! Great job! Thanks.
I think the “not so good” papers look great as well! Thank you! So much easier than the oven methos❤
Thanks! I have tried the oven but I get distracted too easily & well... I don't want to start a fire. That would be an embarrassing story to tell. 🙃
Beautiful, I put a few drop of vanilla extract in the mix. It gives it a great smell!
That's a great idea!
Great advice. Thank you
You are so welcome!
Thank you for sharing your process for coffee dyeing. In the summer I like to let them dry in the back porch. The sun brings the colors pop. 💜💜💜
I have been coffee dying for quite some time. But this takes it to a much higher level and looks so pretty. I am really excited to try this technique out. Thanks for sharing!
Oh awesome! Thank you
Hi Sharon, loved your tutorial. Have used stencils before when dying with coffee but not your way. I really like your way of doing it much better and thank u for showing the ironing part too. Good idea to use parchment paper on top of coffee dyed papers. TFS
Thank you Rose!
When dying paper using the oven to dry, there is no need to flip the paper. It will dry great just leaving it on the one side. It actually goes pretty fast and you can make a lot more coffee or tea dyed paper in a shorter amount of time. I iron my pages after. Love the texture it gives. Your pages are beautiful.
Thank you Donna 😊
Thx! I enjoy seeing how different makers do their paper dying & sometimes pick up interesting and helpful ideas they hv come up with! I like the idea of the full size stencils & that u posted a link!
Hi Sharon new subscriber, Thank you so much ! Best tutorial on using stencils I’ve seen !
( tip - add a teaspoon of baking soda to hot coffee takes out the acidity saving photos if added to your journals but for me most importantly it reduces the smell of the coffee to almost non existent when dry . I tea dye mostly because I don’t drink coffee. And the smell sometimes bothers me. My husband drinks tons of it so I’m ok with it just not so much on my paper ! Just a tip to try .
Hugs and huge thank you for a Wonderful video tutorial x. Cheryl from sw Florida
Thank you for the tip! I do put photos in some of my journals so this is nice to know ☺️
Thank you for this video. I couldn’t figure what I was doing wrong. I wasn’t leaving the stencil to dry.
Just mix the coffee with a tiny amount of boiling water, stir until dissolved, then add cold water to required quantity 😊
Beautiful. I've coffee (& tea) dyed papers for decades, but I've never thought to add the stencils. Gorgeous results.😊
Thank you! I'm happy you liked it!
Hi Sharon. Thanks for sharing your techniques. Subbed you. 🥰 You might also try using a small paint roller for your dye/coffee application. The kind with the firm/dense white foam (not the yellow sponge) work great. (Available in painting section of big box home improvement stores). Also, I like brushing or rolling on my dyes on a large silicon mat. The paper kind of sticks down to the silicon mat which helps keep the paper in place. (Big thin silicon mats are sold on Amazon as placements, counter liners, etc.) You can also brush dye directly onto the mat and press the paper into it. The dye beads up on the silicon and you can get some cool effects from that. Have fun & best of luck with your channel. 🌻
Thank you for the tips Jeanne. I love to hear how other crafters do things.
I wonder if anyone has tried this on material. It would look cool for upcycling clothing
Hi Sharon, new subscriber here. I have seen some dyed paper that has what looks like stenciling but didn't know how since the only dying I've seen was in a large pan with a stack of papers. Thank you for sharing...I absolutely love this technique. 🥰
Thank you so much!
Tried this method today. Excellent results. Thank you!
That is awesome!
I wonder if you don’t use a towel underneath but use a flat plastic tray as a towel absorbs on the side you just puddled with coffee ☕️
I think i will set up a dyeing station and do a few each night!
Great idea!
I love using my large stencils for doing this as you have shown, leaving the stencils in place till they dry. The only thing I do differently is I have two cups of coffee the second cup is more instant coffee in the cup making it darker and I use that one when "painting" the stencil design. So I do some as you did here and some darker for a variety. I do mine in summer out on the deck so they dry pretty quickly. Hugs and stay well.
Thank you! I wish I had a deck.. or a patio. I am going to try the 2nd (darker) coffee next time I do this.
Lovely tutorial Sharon, thank you for sharing this technique. Looking forward to trying this out. Your papers turned out beautiful. Take care❤
Thank you so much! 💓
Well done! Thank you!
Oooo, I'm gonna have to try this! Love them!
This was a new technique for me, LOVE it

Thank you! Have a wonderful day!
What a great technique! Can’t wait to try it😊
Have you (anyone) ever replaced the coffee with dye or watered down paint and stencils? I'm planning a journal based primarily on blue and white porcelain designs (see my watercolor paintings of chinoiserie, birds, landscapes etc.) @Debra L Pate Art
I will be photo copying my own paintings to decorate the journal and onto hand made washi tape strips.
I'm more interested in creating an antique style journal than junk or grunge.
Any ideas would be great.
Thank you! 🖌️🎨🖌️🎨🐦
Using food coloring or Easter egg dye is great way to dye papers
These look fabulous. I'll try it!!! TFS! Austin TX USA
Thank you Barbara!
Always something you learn from each artist. I hope everyone watched all the way to the end. Thank you for sharing. I just subscribed hope you get many more subscribers.
Thank you so much! I always watch to the end myself... you never know what you might miss 😊
Thanks for sharing. Often wondered how they get the patterns so clear.😅❤
Happy to help!
FYI:
DO NOT IRON ON YOUR CUTTING MAT AND TOWEL. I DID THAT LAST YEAR AND IT WARPED MY CUTTING MAT. LESSON LEARNED. Now I iron my papers on an ironing board.
New here and found this in my main utube page. Thank youfor the demo. very useful!
Thank you Pat!
I love this technique. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Connie!
Very well explained! Can’t Waite to create Looking forward to more from you. Thank you
Thank you so much!
😊Great Vid!! Lots of detailed instruction!! Thank You!!
Awe ❤️ thank you!
Thank you for this video. Very helpful and inspiring. Can't wait to try it.
Thank you Debra!
I'm thinking if you had a second cup of coffee mixed up stronger to use when you did your stenciling, it would make a more definite design?
Thank you for sharing the tutorial was great.

Beautiful papers! 😃❤️
Thank you! 😊
Excited to try my hand at this, TFS
Hope you enjoy it!
When I did my stencil dyed paper.. I used and old white sheet..it lay more flat compared to a towel
New sub from Australia. I really enjoyed it. Especially the corner stencil. I’m using my coffee in a spray bottle. Especially if I just quickly want to stain backgrounds quickly.
Thank you! I will give that a try!
Thanks, I’m going try it.
Thank you!
Great tutorial- I’ve noticed this happens when I soak my papers in a bath of coffee and there is a doily in between the plain papers (I soak a few sheets at a time and oven dry them). Have you tried putting a second paper on the top of the stencil? Especially if you put a weight on your layers you would get two sheets from the one stencil
Great idea! :)
Great tip! I have not tried that... but I will. Thank you!
Really informative. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
How lovely the pages are. Thankyou for sharing. I subscribed also ❤️
Thanks so much! 😊
Loved the video. Thanks and where did you find your stencils as I have not seen such large and awesome ones.
Me, too!:) She posted a link… tap ‘more…’ in the description under the vid.

Thank you!
New sub, looved the vido thank u for your time❤
Thank you so much Cathy!
I've been coffee/tea staining paper for a long time. I soak mine in a deep dish and dry them in the oven. I can get 10 done at a time. You can use stencils on the dry paper. You need to use it drier on the dry paper, like you do with any stencilling. Just dampen a brush. I can't do one page at a time. Way too slow. 😅
Great tip!
Very nice I like how your papers turned out. I tried tea dying paper with cinnamon flavored tea because I wanted it to have that smell. The dye turned out ok but it doesn't have the odor of cinnamon. I will try again.
Wouldn't it be great to have the cinnamon smell!? I would love that. Thank you for your nice comment 😀
New sub 😊😊😊
Thanks!
I just found you, and glad I did! Where did you buy your stencils pls Sharon? Loved the video! Thank you! 😀
Thank you! I got them from Amazon. It seems I used stencils from 2 different packs. Here are the links for them 🙂

Perfectly lovely work and finished product, well instructed, too. I will definitely be practicing the same, and I thank you very much 😊!
I have to admit that I have a hang-up: I would subscribe and listen to every word, but for your speaking style of a frequent higher tone, as if asking a question, used. I realize you're not even aware of it, it's only my own hang-up.
Thank you so much Christi!
Where does everyone find their stencils? 😅
Hi! In the description area I left a couple links for the stencils I used.
What is the name of the stencils you used? And where did you get them? Thanks for sharing the process.
