many of the old redline wheels spun even faster due to the use of delrin bearing and nylon coating and the cars rolled smoother due the original and later improved Z axle "suspension". The lesson? they don't make em' like the used to.
Interesting info about the colour changers. It's logical that they would protect the axles from going rusty early in the car's life. I used to operate a chrome plating line in a plating works. So I can inform anyone who's interested, that the nickel plating does actually fill in tiny imperfections in the surface of whatever metal it is applied to. So if the metal axle is really good to begin with, it should be excellent with the nickel plating. Chrome won't do the same thing because it faithfully follows the surface and just adds to it very accurately. Chrome is much harder and is used to protect the shiny nickel. If you have a chrome plated bumper on your classic car, or exhaust on your classic motorcycle, it will definitely be the nickel under the chrome that makes it shiny. I guess the reason Hot Wheels didn't use nickel and chrome is because it doubles the cost as it's two separate processes.
+RaceGrooves When I heard you say about the colour changers axles I guessed that they found that those cars were mostly faster than before. I'm going to have to buy one now just to see. ;¬)
@MrNascarfan1 I'm not set up right now for speed testing. But the current Stingray is available in both the first and second generation FTE wheels so I want to get a handful of both for when I am able to do testing.
Is your Bye Focal II on a long card or a short card? If it is a long card, does the other Faster Than Ever releases have the Faster Than Ever logo on the card or do they just put the Faster Than Ever series name on the bottom of the card?
The FTE wheels spin a long time! I haven't raced a Ford GTX yet. I would expect it be above average because of it's weight and how the wheels are spread out. The other cars that you mentioned are pretty low to the ground and I would think that they would have issues rubbing on the track.
@drunkvaderaz The FTE2 didn't spin very long for me either. The Stingray is being found with both FTE and FTE2 wheels. I went to Kmart to pick up a few of the FTE versions since the FTE2's are showing up now. I will race the same exact models (red stingray) with FTE and FTE2 wheels whenever I get a chance.
2:20 this car very similar too red eagle form Carmageddon (16+) same color resemble form and resemble spikes but in carmageddon it’s need to kill people or hit opponent cars

I have a Hot Bird from the 2008 40 Years of Hot Wheels Set with Gold BW wheels and I must say it runs like the wind on the tracks. So, do you happen to know if that cars from the set have nickel plated axles? Thanks and greetings from Mexico. Cool video, great info!
Hi, I think that your Hot Bird is doing excellent because it has a metal body, metal base. I don't recall anything special about the axles. Have fun =)
@MegaAwsomeStudios The wheels have been nick-named FTE as the style of the wheel but I think that it gets confusing for those who don't know about the axles.
@Nicksoccerkid16 That was terrible when Mattel released cars that were non-FTE but they put the logo on the card. They should never do anything that causes consumer confusion.
@georgeman21222 I have never used any substance to make cars go faster. Silicone powder and WD40 are materials that could possibly work but after awhile, I am told that stuff starts to gunk and pile up. WD40 will start to attract dirt and then you'll have crud.
@@zackyzam6628 i know im 10 years late but i think a good casting for that (in 2014) is the tooned ‘69 chevelle or slingshot. And in 2024, it’s cosmic coupe or the 2018 custom mustang
So...to improve a Hot Wheels car and still keep it looking stock, could you disassemble one and nickel plate the axles? I guess you’d have to nickel plate the wheels, too, no? Is there a way to pull off wheels and reinstall without breaking / damaging them? (Id like to upgrade a Batmobile)
im not very fond of the new wheels they kinda look funky noooot one of my favs!... thanx for informing abut the axles, it does get confusing for some but i figure it out on my own a while back seeing is how the wheel spins on the axle so its easy to figure for the axle being the main part of the fte , my question is is there anything else you can do to make the car go faster ? maybe wd40 or swaping the fte's on a heavier car ... worth a shot !
i picked up the nissan skyline h/t 2000gt-r which is different from the nissan skyline 2000gt-x the r version has copper plated wheels with pearl white paint very nice car but i dont know if it has nickel plated axles i spun the wheels around and they lasted only 3 seconds im guessing it just has the regular axles thanks george
@drunkvaderaz I posted on that topic. (markkaz) he raced them in the same lanes every time the first go round. I mentioned that he needs to switch up the lanes and he said that he got a similar result. But really, you need a long track to do testing, not a little 3 foot toy track =) I wouldn't state any opinions until I tested several models to be sure that it wasn't the Javelin itself that sucks LOL!
that was very interesting mark..i didnt know that at all..thankyou for that information........keep up those awesome videos.....your like the professor of hotwheels....hahahahahaha
I Have a FORD GTX1 With FTE2 wheels and i like it alot. It goes alot further and faster than my other cars. I wish they made a Lamborghini Gallardo LP-570 4 Superleggara or a Toyota Supra or McLaren f1 with FTE Wheels.
Hot wheels biggest problem is that the axle shaft moves side to side and the wheel rubs the chassis, I have been running cars from the modern era and I take them apart and center the axle and I put a drop of super glue in the middle, huge difference in performance, redline cars never had such a problem
Even if a model has FTE wheels, it still needs to be a heavier car to make a difference. Just like you said that the FTE models couldn't beat your '70 Buick. If you put lipstick on a pig, does it make it beautiful? NO! It's still a pig! Just because Mattel puts FTE wheels on the models, it isn't going to make them that much faster.
@racegrooves true true .... i was talking to my brother in law and he suggested graphite? i have no clue as to what that may do but he suggests it will make them go faster anyways i am thinking about swaping out the FTE axles on a heavier car such as the car of the decades either the 67 camaro or that 69 mustang ( i think its 69 i know its somewhere around there) anyways i think that would be rather fast , its worth a shot anyways i do admire the performance and speed of these cars

This is the best tutorial for FTEs. Great job!
+Brian McHugh Thank you very much!

Nope, they don't make them like that anymore. The bent-axle suspension and the Delrin bushings are too expensive to do nowadays.
@diecastracerx FTE's make a big difference with tracks with long straight-aways for sure!
The FTE wheels spin a long time! I haven't raced a Ford GTX yet. I would expect it be above average because of it's weight and how the wheels are spread out. The other cars that you mentioned are pretty low to the ground and I would think that they would have issues rubbing on the track.
@Italian144 The wheel on the new FTE that I opened didn't spin very long either.
@Hummer2SUT I hope to test the FTE and the FTE2 at the Hot Wheels Convention this week.
@emccurnin I don't remember where I picked up the Ferrari California.
I have not been able to do any testing between FTE, FTE2, original Hot Ones and Team HWs HSW.
@lllllll5s Correct! For the most part, the wheels don't do jack-diddly to help a car go faster.
You are very welcome! Many people don't know what makes them FTE so I thought that this would be a good video for collectors and kids alike.

@georgeman21222 Yes, graphite. That's the substance. They use it for Pinewood Derby.
@pharodox Ah, you may be right. I did drill apart a couple Pharadox models...
@mariman7 You're welcome and thanks for watching!
@marshbjuneb22 Agreed. Performance, not good at high speeds. Appearance, depends on the model.
@MCLAFITZY Thanks very much! Did you know this information before?
can you be able to modify any hot wheels with the 5sp axles nickel plated?
@georgeman21222 I have never used any substance to make cars go faster. Silicone powder and WD40 are materials that could possibly work but after awhile, I am told that stuff starts to gunk and pile up. WD40 will start to attract dirt and then you'll have crud.
I wish i had more hands to give you more thumbs up...but i can only give you two! Great video Mark!
@williamtongsiri I have a follow-up video on the FTE2 wheels that will showcase the 2009 Corvette Stingray Concepts from my FTE vs FTE2 video.
grooves, what kind of car is the best for two loop, in addition to the drift king type. thanks
Sorry, I haven't really tested to see what cars can make it through two loops.
thank you for fast respond, could you info to me in the near future, what kind of good for a track or double loop to drag.
ow sorry i forgot, not using booster, like a drag race track but there are double loop in the middle

@thehogan911Thanks!

My question is are they on random cars that have those wheels or are they always coded as FTEs on the card
Exceptional content.. thankyou for uploading this
I knew it was the axle, but people said " Its the wheels !" but their wrong ! Thanks Mark !
so which one the fastest car as you know?
and how about FTE vs HSW (high-speed wheels), which one is better?
great video, thanks for the wheel info.
You're welcome!

Thanks! Yeah, I minimize how many FTE2's I have in my collection too =)

Me too. I wish they would hurry up and get an FTE3 wheel =)
what is your proof? When did mattel release the info on what FTE means?
These axles should not rust because they are nickel-plated. Same with Color Shifters but those models had plastic bodies.
can u do a race between the new one and the old now
I have Bye Focal II and it has copper 5-spokes but in the package it didn't say faster than ever
Great video!!!
@Lionferrari777 Man, something was in the air! Just after 6:15, my nose really started to run and I gave a big 'ol sniff!
so thats what faster than ever means good video ps 6:26 to 6:28 was the beast part :)
@AutobotAwsomeness The FTE2 wheels look OK on a couple cars but most of them so far, blech!
@drunkvaderaz I posted on that topic. (markkaz) he raced them in the same lanes every time the first go round. can you show if the old nascar diecast from hotwheels is faster than the regular
1:31 that is an awesome car and it's good to find out what makes the faster than ever faster than ever
@powerwh33ls Thanks, my friend!
Is there a FTE metal/metal drag bus?
Amassosaurus Rex nope
I have put FTE2 wheels from the california onto a vt commodore ss, they look like real world commodore wheels that are available
i have a Majorete model that seems to have really good axles, since they spin for over 4 seconds
Thanks!
@racingmaniac11 Since the axles are nickel-plated, I'm sure they squeek less =)
Very educational, thanks RaceG!
@heathkinn Well, thank you =)
Mark the surgeon! Thanks for the breakdown dude!
that was very interesting mark..i didnt know that at all..thankyou for that information........keep up those awesome videos.....your like the professor of hotwheels....hahahahahaha
I need a fast car ASAP what car should I get and where can I get it from?
Porsche 918 spyder or Ferrari fxx both online
please review the corvette stingray 2009 for me.please please please
I Have a FORD GTX1 With FTE2 wheels and i like it alot.
It goes alot further and faster than my other cars.
I wish they made a Lamborghini Gallardo LP-570 4 Superleggara or a Toyota Supra or
McLaren f1 with FTE Wheels.
When I first saw the fte2 I was like omg so cool
Thanks for the info and greetings from overseas.
dynaflow74 You're welcome!
It's not the wheels that make it Faster Than Ever, it's the axles!

I prefer the original FTE's too.
I have an FTE Bon voyage model (first edition)
@m7a3rk8is Thanks for the performance report!
You should race regular hw cars vs ultra fast wheels!! yeeeii
Lol I thought the title meant that the hot wheels Inside Story van was faster than all other hot wheels xD
I LUVZ UR VIDZ :3
I just checked Hot Wheels Wiki and the Bye Focal II is an faster than ever model everything there matched window tint, interior colour everything
This is exactly the video. I needed. Thank ou!
In my opinion, I think the wheels LOOK fine. I think the older wheels perform better, but these look OK.
Ur the best toy reveiwer evr love ur vids bty im never buying faster than ever 2 wheels
I also think that the new wheels are quieter. Maybe that is why.
I knew it! The wheels really don't have ANYTHING to do with going faster!
nice info you're a master :D
tommy surya Thank you =)
Normal Hotwheel: 1.293 seconds, faster than ever: 4 seconds... I counted estimate I think
i think at 4:52 isn't really a nickel plated
@ukiuki551 Great For The Tracks, search for my What Makes A Good Track Car vid.
Nickel-plated axles.
they cant chrome the axel at the same time as the chassis the axel will chrome to the chassis
Thats cool =D
Cool
I like the California's wheels
2:07 pioneer fidget spinner
Far out 👍🏁
@DaddyIvo (grin)
I have an impavido 1 and when I tested it to se how long it would spin it went for 10 seconds
and it isnt even a faster then ever!
I have an old car which isnt that good but its one of my fastest cars
@racegrooves Thanks
