- Paddling Lake Inari, Finland, by canoe. Wilderness trip in search of connection with nature. Self supported and authentic adventure by award winning filmmaker Jolanda Linschooten. Together with Frank van Zwol. The wood canvas canoe in the film was self built in Sweden, 7 years before the trip.
Inari archipelago is a large wilderness area in northern Finland. For hundreds of years the indigenous Sami people used to live at its shores.
Fall colours peak in mid September, the trip was during the last 3 weeks of September 2023.

Ik kwam bij toeval bij jouw kanaal uit na het lezen van je boek 'niet de race maar de reis'.

Te gek mooi. Heel lang geleden een kano zwerf tocht gemaakt in zweden, voor een week. Toch maar weer eens terug. Prachtige gebreide truien trouwens. Zelf gebreid?

Wij waren er in oktober 2018. De natuur en de Aurora Borealis zijn overweldigend. Een grote droom werd werkelijkheid. Helaas konden we niet meer naar het Heilige Eiland van de Sami, midden in het eiland om ons respect en onze dankbaarheid te betonen. 4 weken met de camper door Scandinavië en met name Finland zit voor eeuwig in mijn hart. En de roep is weer groot. Dank je Jolanda voor jouw schitterende producties 🙏🏻

Hey Jolanda, quick question. Are there mosqitos on the islands in the middle of the lake? I ask as they should not find animals to sting there and may be absent therefore. Just to know what to pack :)
I really don't know. We were there in September - one of the reasons being that this is the time without midges! But if you go in summer, then even if there would be NO midges on an island (which I strongly doubt), then there are midges everywhere on the way from the shore to your island... ;-) Apart from that, its heaven ;-)

Just for information. You should not take trouts under 50cm. It will cost you about one thousand euro fine. Nice video!
Thank you for your info. We (of course) bought the fishing license and tried to look through the finnish-only-info but did never come upon this rule - which nevertheless is an important one to communicate!
There has always been limits of fish size that you can take. But couple of years ago they raced amount of fines a lot. Most finns dont know that either. We have a summer cafe at Kutturantie, Inari. Few years ago one fisherman came to cafe and told, that he had caught tree nice truts from Sotajoki, river nearby. Inspector had come and checked those truots. They were all just under limit. He got 2800€ fines. Thats why I told you this.
