I had always thought the urskeks created the crystal itself for ages and didn't know they were essentially aliens and came to thra long after the crystal was formed before discovering this vid, thanks for clearing that up, love your channel
Your channel is amazing! You go deep into the lore of the Dark Crystal and it makes it great learning material if anyone wants to know more about the movies back story
If I had watched it at that age I would have loved, cause I was a fan of horror movies since I was little, though I was more into the supernatural/magical aspects than in the horror itself, actually, the horror should only be used as it is in the Dark Crystal, as a warning of what we should not allow ourselves to become or contaminated with, whereas in old horror movies they didn´t teach many values but just fear of the unknown, which is not a good thing. The Dark Crystal only teaches good values of respect for diversity, love for nature and life and respect for ancient pagan cultures.
As a kid, I’ve always dreamed of a Star Wars/ Dark Crystal crossover? Do you think those 2 universes could coexist? I know I wouldn’t be exactly popular with most fans even suggesting this crossover but you have to admit...it’s tempting. I can’t be the only one who thought about this. Just think for a moment if the Mystics and the Skeksis are one in the same the good and the bad than Annikin Skywalker is the “Mystic” and his “Skeksis counterpart is Darth Vader. Life on Thra seems backwards from Earth, at least on the macro scale, in that here we have the plant, animal, and fungus kingdoms, but then we have very few phylum with hundreds of species. Thra on the other flange looks like it has hundreds of phyla (or at least several dozen) and just a few species in each.

Thank you for explaining the measure of a trine. I have been trying to make sense of it and thought it had to equal several of our years. You do mention that there are 9 seasons however. They all fit into 12 of our months, or approximately?
That I am not sure and the writers have said they are very fluid with time and will just stay vague and say things like, "it isn't exactly a year", but they explain it is more to not give spoilers as to when something exactly takes place so you can't deduce some plot points based on how far away it is from the film. So I assume those answers will eventually come, for now it is more vague.
Thra sounds like Terra... Terra is/means Earth (Gaia also is/means Earth, sometimes - which is like the duality of the UrSkeks dividing into the UrRu and Skeksis) (just a thought)

I didn't know/remember the dark crystal world was called Thra before I started writing it... It's scrambled letters in Earth... Tbh is it crazy but the music and your reading of this story, kinda gives me nostalgia of when my mother would read to me the bible or my father would tell me the storys of my native american ancestors storys of creation 😌❤ tbh this is why I kinda love the artistic wrighting of the dark crystal - it's like listening to a poetic bedtime story or peace of beautiful scripture

I believe the movie explains that the UrSkeks broke it deliberately which caused them to be split into the Ursu and the Skeksis. The parts were scattered to be reassembled save for a single chard.
I agree and think it should have, since that is how you see it at the end of the movie once it is restored. I think they made it purple just so it was familiar to us since that is its iconic look.
Trevor Jones worked with Jim Henson since preproduction of the movie. Maybe, what if that Thra song is in the notes Trevor composed at the beginning of the soundtrack?
They seem to be another creature that has always been around. There isn't anything specifically on their origin, but by the first Great Conjunction we see them interacting and working along side the Gelfling.

UrSkeks being banished from the heavens, sent to earth, rule the creatures, impose a kind of 'state religion' on the Gelflings, then a single male and female Gelfling being told to repopulate the earth...

Apparently, the UrSkeks' homeworld had its own Crystal. Perhaps there is a network of worlds with a central Crystalline object.

I giving this a try. I watched Dark Crystal when I was seven and I was traumatised...so now than I am 30 I should fight my fears heads on.

Originally it was names Mithra, but since that was also a name for a god they decided to change it.
