I am a 66-year-old ASU professor that has loved baseball all of my life. I have learned more in the last few months from Trevor's videos than I did in all of the years before. Trevor is a natural teacher. This video is one worth watching several times. There is a lot of good stuff here.

You are a person like an athlete. Maybe not naturally gifted but you could put the work in another area. Maybe a trainer, or maybe at your job. The thing is 99pc of people won't put the work in early and raise through the ranks. It's hard to be and stay motivated.
I saw kids at my school with buckets of talent but they aren't putting in a full time job of training at 6 years old or giving up hanging out with friends at 11 years old. Or not drinking at the weekend while in college.
So if want the 150k a year job or the 20m you need to be willing to put in the hours when your being paid 30k a year. Like I say most won't

It's amazing how usefull the death spiral analogy is, from someone that's been battling with depression for years you just made me realize that that's kinda how it is and the only way to get better is to follow the same 4 steps (in a different way obviously)
1. Preparation for your day (get good sleep, eat well, etc.)
2. Choices/ goals for the day (chores, work, school, etc.)
3. Excecution (when and how are you going to do all those things)
4. Command or feedback (did you hit your target or not).
And most importantly, you have to let go all of the negative things that weigh you down. I know first hand that it's more complicated than that, but it's true.
And having heard that on a Sunday after a bad week I thank you for motivating me to give it another shot and looking forward to this week. Thank you so much trevor.
The timing of this video couldn't be better as it comes right after a game Trevor won where the opposing pitcher got dinged for 10 runs in the ninth inning. Trevor sent a message out to that pitcher to try and cheer him up, and the next day he comes out with this video.
This is an amazing episode. For athletes, people with jobs, doesn’t matter. So insightful from someone at the top of their game.
I lived in the town where this tsunami occurred. My family was safe, but I lost my home. I had a very painful experience due to the nuclear disaster and tsunami damage, but I am fine now. Thank you very much for all the support you have provided to Japan from all over the world. I will never forget this kindness.

I was living in Miyagi prefecture when the Tsunami hit, it was a terrible situation for so many people. 2 years later on the 3 November 2013 the Rakuten Eagles won the championship with the help of Masahiro Tanaka who had a legendary season of 24-0! You have to watch the last inning of that final between the Giants vs Rakuten, it was one of the most emotional sporting event I had ever witness. Tanaka had lost his first match of the season pitching 160 pitches in the 6th match of the final. He went back on the 9th inning of the 7th game as a closer to close it. This gave everyone in the Tohoku region (the 6 prefectures in the north) so much joy and hope. One crazy coincidence is that the tsunami happened on March 11th (3/11) and Rakuten won on November 3rd (11/3).

Amazing how similar to death spiral logic is between a pitcher and a hockey goaltender. When you have a string of bad starts just learning to focus on what you can control, and how consistency and a change in luck is often what gets you out of it.

Hey, I ran into Eric at Callaway's Performance Center in Carlsbad, CA last week. Nice guy. Took a few photos. As you mentioned before, he is off to Japan to do a video together? It'll be fun. I have a son 11. He plays baseball. Actually very good. In the first two games of the season, he went 4 for 6, one HR, three doubles, pitched two shutout innings with 4Ks. He watches your videos religiously, and is learning a lot from you.

2 runs over 6+ innings is a quality start, if a pitcher takes a loss and gives a quality start it is not the pitcher's fault.
Quality starts aren’t the best stat imo. You can have a 4.50 ERA and pitch quality starts every time
I would take a pitcher who guarantees me a QS every game over a mid 3s era. Imagine knowing your pitcher will always go six with no more then 3 against
If you had a quality start every time you pitched, the highest ERA you could have over a season is a 3.00 because if you pitched a game and gave up 2 runs over 6 innings exactly, that gives you a 3 ERA for the game. Quality starts are definitely not the best stat to measure a player's full performance over a season, but it can stand out if you have them consistently.

@@JamesLee-qb2elA quality start is technically 3 earned runs, or less, given up over 6, or more, innings innings. Therefore a pitcher that only pitches quality starts can have an ERA of 4.5.
If a pitcher has 70-80% of starts be quality starts it is a great way of knowing if a starting pitcher is consistent and good. That's 22-26 games where the starts gives up 3 or less runs and goes for at least 6 innings. Which, on a team whose offense isn't anemic should be at least a 15 win season and probably close to a 20 win season.

Hey Trevor. For the spray painted cleats, I think you should use a clear coat on top of the shoe after the initial paint drys. I think a clear coat helps the paint stay versus it smudging and coming off

That might seal the holes in the mesh and the shoes lose breathability though

The surface to be painted has to be prepped to allow the paint to chemically bond with the "painted" material...as an example, apply paint to a piece of plastic , spray top coat on it once the paint dries and watch how quickly the paint peels off with the slightest contact with the piece of plastic.

I've seen a lot of the kids using it during the LLWS. Definitely a good sign that you are teaching them a lot about pitching. You're a good source of information on pitching, preparation, and exercising.

The counter swing is characterized by having two pieces that move when you swing.
When you make a practice swing with a counterswing, if you have an ideal swing, the two tops will move at the same time, and you will hear a collision sound only once before the bat head comes out.
If these two pieces move separately and the collision sound is heard twice around the impact, please be careful as it is not an ideal swing.
In other words, if the sound is at impact or twice, it means that you have made a wrong swing.
It's important to repeat that there is only one click during the swing, and that is before the head of the bat comes out.
A counterswing is a piece of baseball gear designed to create a twist in the body during the swing.
Body twist refers to the twist difference in the body so that the lower body starts moving first, then the hip rotation, the upper body, and finally the bat comes out.
By creating this difference in torsion, the head runs at impact, leading to an increase in flight distance.
If there is no twisting of the body, the head will come out first, so the sound will be heard around the impact and the head will run after the impact.
When swinging with the counterswing, be aware of the twisting of your body and practice.
As you can see when you use the counter swing, it is difficult until you get the hang of playing the sound only once in the back.
If you can't do it well, let's practice divided into two exercises as Minoruman explains.

some paint advice. If you can rough up the surface and use a primer first, that will ususally do the trick. No primer that adheres well allows paint to come off easily. Thanks for the great videos and keep them coming!
Great video, especially the analysis at the beginning. You mentioned studying the league to improve your pitch choices, but I was curious how much time you spend studying specific opposition hitters for each game, or if you prefer focusing on executing good pitches.

I was living in Japan when the tsunami hit. We all had to go up to the top of the hill in Yokosuka in case it came all the way into the harbor. Fortunately the water receded and came back in like a tide instead of a wave.
Think the bat is to make sure you are staying back and when to blast head of bat through the zone. Cup on end just to knock a little weight off. I like rounded ends. I'll send you a model number to a great bat.
Cool video. I enjoyed knowing why I felt tired during games. But mainly I learned that you have to take care of your arm. Little league coaches need to watch this. They would throw number 1 pitcher every game if possible. Hopefully, they have pitch counts in all junior sports. Thanks for the winning tag.

That Tsunami was a horrible experience for Japan. If the Liyuta bay tsunami was actually experienced, somewheres big, it would of dealt a lot of damage

I love to see how much of your training that most old school trainers thought was silly and annoying is being adopted by alot of those trainers and teams. They used to say you were high maintenance instead of being happy with how serious you were at your trade. They would have tried to change you and then when it didn't work out they would have tried to blame you. I love how excited your were and are with Disney on ice. Up north in canada when we were bmxing in the winter we would use small wood screws on our knobbies too. It's hard on the ice but you literally tear it up. Thanks for your videos it really helped me get outta my head. It's been a rough week.
u might need some better prep on the cleats by either cleaning the surface with some isopropyl and or sanding/scuffing the surface so paint will adhere. Then some clear coat over it.
