Me, well used to be me. I actually loved watching laptop videos especially, thin gaming ones. Until one day I was getting sick of my Asus X555da and decided that I would work over the summer for a gaming beast. I would work hard and before I knew it, I could purchase a Lenovo y520 with gtx 1060 and i7 7700hq cpu. Believe me, I wouldve never thought I could get anything like this but once you go out there and make a few bucks it is totally possible!

A GTX 2080 ti can't run Call of Duty: Black Ops Secret Super Mission 57 at ultra, it'll run with a measly 137 Fps avg on 7k. You will need 3 Titan QWs to run it at 7k at 526fps, or 8k at 472fps.

3 years late to the party but thats how long I had to wait to be able to afford this beast. Just come off of playing Borderlands 3 maximum settings 1080p 70 to 80fps with 7.1 headphones and honestly its the best experience I have had on any laptop or console in my 30+ years of gaming, It blew my head off. Was there fan noise? Yes quite a bit! Temps hovered around 75 cpu 80 gpu. I can only imagine what the more recent version with a RTX 2080 super and i9 processor is like! If you see this laptop for a good price grab it - it is still more than capable.

I don't mind that actually , I recently bought the Acer predator 17 with Gtx 1060 and 6700 HQ processor i paid 17 hundred dollars but unfortunately my unit has a problem with the GPU I started to have random dots on my screen they just appear from nowhere and when I play video they move around so fast i think this is artifact gpu but yah i am so unlucky i hope they will fix it

Desktop replacements don't need to be huge. That said, 2 more years and that tech will fit in an XPS 15 frame.

I just want to personally thank you for reviewing this unit. I very much value your reviews because you give us details that other reviews don't ( 4 lane thunderbolt 3, 100% sRGB and gsync makes a huge difference when you need to know this). I have been researching laptops for a while now and however niche people think this might be, it is the perfect laptop for my needs and place in my life. An actual desktop does not work since I go room to room with my wife and newborn and I have no issue lifting 10lbs in my arms all waking hours (That's the weight of my baby and I have no issue carrying her all day and she moves around on me a bunch) this system does not compromise and being a photographer, which gaming and photography hate eachother panel wise) this blends both worlds seamlessly without having to buy an expensive external monitor and gpu to run everything! Keep up the great work on these reviews and thank you for taking the time to review units that push the envelope :)

It's a very nice laptop even today great build quality I love the keyboard for typing. Most laptops have mushy keyboards.. If you can find one these days they go for around 1k used... With a 1080 it's not a bad deal sure no ray tracing but performance wise it's around as fast as a 2070 or max q 2080 laptop or even low watt 3070 laptop.. Not bad at all for the money...
I have bought this laptop with 7820HK processor and 32GB RAm. Believe me this thing is beast. You would never regret after buying this beast. its awesome.

Proud owner of alienware 15 r3(1070). Yes it isn't the most powerful out there, but it is stylish, nearly business class looking compared to other gaming laptops. The thermal of the AW is the greatest on that form factor. I really enjoy my beast. Mechs keyboard on laptop is the worst idea ever, it is just awful, when u are used to cherry mx, a prefer well established normal keyboard as my AW has. This thing is no backpack friendly at all, maybe suitcase as well :D. Laptop will never be desktop, there are more than that.
Also, who damn what to play on ULTRA when the difference between high or even medium is so little. I prefer 60-80 fps, on lower settings + cool keyboard, if u know what i mean

IDK a Good Username YT look at the top of the line computers from a few years ago. You can get them now for a fraction of what it cost. Why spend $2,600 for a maxed out laptop, when you can buy the same computer a few years later for cheap, or just buy a more powerful laptop then, for less money???! This maxed out laptop will be selling on eBay in a few years, for a fraction of what its worth today. Technology rapidly depreciates over time. What I love about the current gaming laptops is that you can get 120 Hz screens. I still would clearly not replace my desktop with one but they improved gaming laptops a lot in the last three years. However I think that a GTX 1070 or 1060 is enough for a laptop, even for 1080p 120 Hz.
I bought this laptop with a GTX 1070 and I can confirm in 2021 that it still crushes any game I throw at it. 1080p on Ultra every time.

I would think so. It handles heavy gaming. My old Alienware 17x r2 only has 6GB of RAM and back then it could handle games and adobe software like dreamweaver and photoshop. Now it struggles to run visual studio and photoshop:(

My MSI Titian series however, is the best laptop I have owned thus far. It’s like 3/4 years old now. Still runs like new to me with the SSD(?).

Performance wise the HQ series does a better job than a U processor for example, but also is drawing more electricity. Use google (or any other search engine) for more information. Easier, faster and by far more reliable than asking here...
This HQ 7th gen has similar performance as my 4th gen desktop i7 4770, which is good enough for a 1080 (maybe not for a 1080ti tough)

As someone with a 1070 7700HQ laptop the CPU actually does bottleneck it if you intend to play it above 60FPS.
