The reason why fans are calling for change is one reason really. Promoters need to pay the fighters more. That's it. I understand that the issue is more complicated tho
This honestly sounds like the worst thing that can happen, especially for fans outside the United States. We don't have easy access to all promotions. This would essentially lock us out of some of the fights we would love to watch.
This was great. The thing I hate about the slap league is trying to get friends/family into mma & taking it seriously, as soon as they see grown men slapping each other it’s hard to justify taking mma seriously as well.
Not just slapping eachother but not being able to defend yourself and basically whoever goes 1st almost always wins and that winner will be KO'd when he loses the next coin toss so nobody will last longer than a handful of events. CTE league
Holy Smokes...Been here since day 1 of MMA On Point. You can always tell a certain video that clearly shows a step up...This is a def step up! The writing, the editing, hell even the ad skit! Bravo lads!
I think it would be best to allow promotions to have their own belts, but they must allow their contracted fighters to fight or defend titles from independent sanctioning bodies. If two promotions can't come to terms on a co-promotion, then fighters may outsource their fight to a 3rd party promotion, but the two promotions would get each get a 4% cut of the revenue from the fight.
The reason I don't watch boxing is, champions don't seem to fight the elite of the elite and can pick easy fights and it's just confusing who is the champion of a given weight class? There's like 4 of them.
Really dig the idea. I feel like any Ali Act expansion needs to prevent the creation of multiple sanctioning bodies, but I'm down for fighters having more independence. I feel like a dramatic like this wouldn't be down if the UFC didn't refuse to back down on any issue, from sponsorship money to contract exclusivity to co-promotion. They're clinging onto every last dime, and it's gonna cost them dollars in the scenario you described. btw, not sure how I feel about an open source VPN. Public facing code means they're leaving vulnerabilities open to exploitation for anyone who's looking for it.
UFC has done this to itself. Expanding at such exponential growth and garnering such massive profits while costing fighters their revenue streams utilizing "sub-contractor" contracts that let's them dominate fighters professional lives without offering any employment benefits, and their absolutely ridiculous and transparent excuses to justify such poor fighter pay all while ignoring any public backlash calling anyone talking on it a dumbass or whatever one liner Dana utilizes that day to pivot... Probably just pay the damn fighters more for shits sake...
Tbh the ufc is more global now then boxing bruh . There worth $9-10 billion Top rank is only worth 300 million . They also sell out big ass stadiums in almost every country around the world … boxers are barely doing that now just look at mike Tyson he’s always at UFC events now instead of boxing 😂
@@Tonyjohnson2523 I know all that bro, wasn’t talking about the business I was talking about the history of corruption that’s obviously still going on, I’m not saying that the ufc isn’t doing the Same either but there’s no hard evidence yet when in boxing there is
This is super fun - great vid! 2 points, 1 objective (possible) error and 1 subjective position: 9:50 under the sanctioning bodies this is illegal UNLESS Connor is licensed in that state. I don’t think Connor would get a licensed. Assuming you based this off Floyd but he has a long history in Vegas. It’s possible but idk it would happen that quickly. Nate hasn’t even been approved yet. And Floyd only got 3 States approved at first if you’ll recall. So I say possible bc if approved, it’s no error at all. But he does need to be approved and it wasn’t Stated that he was. I only say this bc I don’t think he’d be licensed in Nevada. 2. There’s a 0% chance the undercard is making $25k a pop. I promise you that. And you didn’t mention how you’d lose hundreds of fighters immediately. In this scenario, it’s impossible to put on enough fights and the draws aren’t big enough for $40 million paychecks. Not even close for even Jones Francis. Not yet atleast. That’s my subjective take but it’s based on simple audience reach figures. And this when all talent is condensed. Imagine spreading the top talent out. Much like boxing, the top guys and gals will stop fighting each other. So you’re biggest draws are unlikely to happen. Love this stuff thanks for the vid y’all
I think the easiest way to do it, that would hopefully avoid most of the pitfalls in boxing, would be to require that a percentage of the net profits to be allocated to fighter pay, and disallow exclusive contracts in MMA.
@Fight Sport Talk It’s actually got a chance because of a Republican. The Senator-elect from Oklahoma is wanting to introduce it but the expectation is that other GOP Senators might oppose it.
Great video Tommy! One of your best. Extremely thorough and had some hilarious shit in there. Really well written really fleshed out the topic well. You guys kick ass
Man I honestly can't help but think we're witnessing the beginning of the end of the Dana era: HW pretty much stalled because Francis is still pulling a power move, Lord knows what Nate is cooking up, there's no way this Power Slap crap is NOT going to absolutely tank and burn up capital, PPVs now $80 which I'm sure totally won't affect buy numbers....curious to see where we are next year
Long as it doesn't turn into fighters dodging other top fighters, and over 15 weight divisions where it like a 3 pound difference between some of them.
The Ali act would likely ruin a lot about what we love. A lot of fighters are underpaid, but when they get near the top then want to sit out for an eternity to fight because they've made so much money? That sucks, immensely. So many things that suck about our sport, but at the same time there's a lot of good. No easy solution.
The UFC can come up with a couple of organization policies that would incentivize fighters to be more active regardless how much money they make per fight. For example if a fighter does not fight at least two times a year due to non-injury reasons, then there would be removed from the rankings. Also if that fighter does not fight at least two two times a year due to non-injury reasons with also being a champion, the champion would have to be stripped due to inactivity. So basically we can find a way to have the organization pay the far is better by giving the fighters a bigger percentage of the organizations revenue similar to premier professional sports leagues with also the organization to come up with rules that would incentivizing fighters to be more active.
@@25taylorkw They only selectively enforce that idea. Sometimes daddy Dana gets crabby and punishes people for not fighting enough. Sometimes he doesn't.
@@spectreshot8536 It seems that Dana White is becoming the Don King of MMA. That's probably the reason why he should not be president / promoter of the UFC with someone like Hunter Campbell replacing him. By the way if the cash cows that Dana has favoritism does not fight actively, then most likely that fighter would digress in terms of skill set ( if they also have not trained in a while ) like how we see with Conor McGregor when Conor has been inactive in MMA. This is why it's beneficial for any MMA fighter regardless of there a star or not to always evolve in their skill set, otherwise they might get left behind.
The LAST thing mma needs is an in-depth bureaucracy!!! The reason we get insane fight cards weekly is because there aren’t hoops on hoops to jump through!! This would completely ruin mixed martial arts.
Honestly, this may be the best video you guys have ever done. I've never LEARNED so much from one of your videos. Very awesome. Thank you guys! And hope everyone has a great holiday!
It's not Dana White. It is Endeavor. Endeavor took out a bunch of loans to buy the UFC and have gutted the cost of the UFC since taking over. They have put nothing into the UFC and extracted a lot out of it. Dana White is just the figurehead for us to get mad at instead of Endeavor. They are the real bad guys here. They're the ones who pushed for gutting fighter pay and bringing in more fighters on cheap contracts, hence the contender series, where the UFC floods its roster with cheap contracts.
Loved the video. As i'm not a boxing fan this took me on an emotional journey. Reminded me of my feelings for mcnugget and icarus jones. At first loving everything said but then that impending sense of doom that the sport I love was being destroyed
Was listening to this while driving home from work and my mind is f***ing blown. This highlights exactly why I never got into boxing as a fan. Hopefully such confusion is prevented while remedying mma’s faults
If all of this comes to fruition it would be the UFCs own fault for pushing fighters to update the Ali act. None of this happens if they act in good faith and have a fair revenue split with non leach contracts
This WILL kill the ufc. I’ve been saying it for a couple years now. We are VERY lucky to be seeing this era, but soon, the competition will be watered down by the implementation of new weight classes, new belts, and more money. It will no longer be an violent Art, it will become a sport.
Funny that this also resonnates (kind of) with how pro wrestling popularity and audience has been shrinking the past 20 years with the monopoly of WWE over wrestling. In you didn't knew, there were a dozen of regional promotions under an association called the NWA (National wrestling alliance) in the USA and part of Canada, while japanese wrestling was splitted between AJPW and NJPW and Mexico having the CMLL as the major entity down there. In the 70's and 80's the promotions were trading talents and were doing Big business by touring locally, but once WWF splitted from the organisation and began its expansion the NWA basically slowly died off, it culminated with the monday night wars and the last remain of those old promotions were bought off in 2001, but in the coming years the WWE would lose the two icons of the previous decade that bump off the ratings and made wrestling popular After a period of stagnation in the 90's, the Rock and Austin. MMA promotions to have partnerships and working agreements but unifying themselves under a lobby would be too complicated down the line because of conflicts of interests
However much we hate aspects of boxing, the exploitation of fighters by the UFC needs to be broken in some manner. Denying that for the sake of easy ppv viewing by the fans is much more than selfish.
So many fans are complaining, but when a solution arrives, they pussy out. And then they overdose on copium by saying "I'd rather have a union instead". Its Ali Act or bust.
The only thing holding this back is the UFC brass, and the lack of regulation of the sport. The brass obviously doesn’t want to make less money by giving more to the fighters, and they’ll fight like hell to prevent any legislation to go through, by, as usual, bribing (indirectly of course) the political powers that be. That’s how it works.
As much as I think we can all recognize the need for a change in how fighters are treated and supported, giving the government complete control is really stupid. The aspects of the sport the government are ALREADY involved in are the most complained about. Does anybody really believe they'd do a good job with even more power? They don't care about fights, and they don't care about fighters. Say what you will about their business practices, there's nothing Dana and the UFC love more than fights and fighters.
@@patrickgrant6389 definitely cares about his paycheck. But the difference between Dana and the government is the government has 0 personal investment in the well being of fighters. @@theophoricpolymath you true on that he love the fighters more then the government but come on does he really care about them or their ability to make money look at fischer and Chuck Liddell they both have cte and have to pay for help themself and they did a lot for the ufc

No, he's a dude who possesses functional testicles, and people like that tend to be disagreeable, or outright assholes. He's definitely openly trashed the fighters he's had beef with, and it's petty, you won't catch me pretending that never happened. But the amount of personally philanthropic work I've heard Dana has privately engaged in over the years as it relates to fighters, is astonishing. Every now and again the Bobby Greens and the Walt Harris's will come out and tell you all of the cool stuff Dana did just for them behind the scenes, out of his own pocket, and with no expectations in return. The bulk of these cases don't go to press. Are Dana and the UFC the perfect promotional combination for fighter rights and treatment? Nope. I promise you they're a hell of a lot better than the alternative, though.
Bro I hope the Ali act doesn’t interfere with great matchups that could be made but I’m also with the idea of the #2 guy getting the guaranteed title shot
I wish that the UFC would pay its fighters well and actually care about their well being. The best fight the best, and if this happens that won’t be the case for very long. But, ultimately, it’s better for the fighters.

This vid helps me understand how the boxing system today works n the reason why I hate the boxing system n how it would ruin mma. This will help the fighters but will relinquish any meaning of becoming a mma champion becoz u are not the only champ
Honestly, mma should get its own law that allows fighters to have sponsors, demand fair pay for fighters based on card placement, and creates a fighters union that'll help fighters fight back against promotions, help promotions determine rankings based accomplishments and popularity, and update the rules when needed.
Good thing about fighter pay: You can have 5 fights (in total not only in the ufc) and make 120k (with bonuses). Bad thing: We all now, but for example they offered 70k to Costa
Nah I it sounds great in paper, but just like boxing, big fights will take years to put together due to cross promotional and sanction body negotiations.... See how a super fight like Islam vs Volk has already been set 3 months from now.... If there were multiple promotions and TV deals, we would probably only see that fight in 2026
@@DAVINCI85-i4h Yes, but that's because its how superfights work. Quite frankly, Islam vs Volk has no business happening, its being made because of $. For instance, Masvidal and Covington both fought for titles twice in 3 years, meanwhile Edwards took 6 years for 1 despite a 10 fight win streak.
@@midwestyle you make a good point, there is politics in both situations, but the same thing also happens in boxing, as Dillan Whyte was number 1 contender for almost 4 years before getting his shot against Fury.... If anything it'll just be ESPN directly negotiating with fighters as independent contractors. And I'm great with that. You wanna stop watching? Cool. Means less than nothing to me.
Why do you think Americans did so will a boxing for so many years
This was great.
CTE league

Not really though, not good.
The Antitrust Lawsuit, Gambling, and the Ali Act. Tommy doesn’t stop with this superb MMA journalism 🔥
This was fucking great. Loved everything from the story to the nod to A Christmas Carol. 10/10 content.
No thank you.
“Even to it was 2 years prior” tommy has to add that in about conner 😂
Wasn’t he saying Connor beat Justin? I’m so confused lmao
This is their best work yet. MMA on Point should have a few million subs. They are the best.
The reason I don't watch boxing is, champions don't seem to fight the elite of the elite and can pick easy fights and it's just confusing who is the champion of a given weight class? There's like 4 of them.

All jokes aside, this genuinely helped me understand how the boxing system works.
Ali act 🙌
I would be interested in hearing how you would want the Ali Act adapted for MMA.
After all the controversy in boxing the fact that mma is the sport under spotlight is bull shit

2 points, 1 objective (possible) error and 1 subjective position:
9:50 under the sanctioning bodies this is illegal UNLESS Connor is licensed in that state.
The Ali Act seems like it’ll be a nightmare honestly. I hope it never gets passed or signed.
@Fight Sport Talk It’s actually got a chance because of a Republican. The Senator-elect from Oklahoma is wanting to introduce it but the expectation is that other GOP Senators might oppose it.

Smh
@@alohatigers1199 Makes more sense than having 115, 118, 122, 126, 130, 135.

If it goes through it does the same thing it did to boxing. People ducking each other, top guys don’t fight and eventually hurts the sport
Just like the UFC. You have fighters refusing to fight and waiting for a title shot

Fighter pay won’t increase in the UFC unless the company gets pressured into it by sponsors or after Dana White isn’t in charge anymore
It’s probably gonna be the latter rather than the former. I don’t think the sponsors are really going to care as much
It's not Dana White.

He just walked it back in the latest video.
Once the monopoly and monosopy cases get going UFC could be in real trouble
I still think the positives will outweigh the negatives if the Ali act is expanded to MMA.

I dont think they will stomp out the bill this time around, but we know that they will try to scratch and claw and lobby till the very end 😁.
In other words, MMA becomes boxing.
Dana and the ufc love money more
@@patrickgrant6389 definitely cares about his paycheck. But the difference between Dana and the government is the government has 0 personal investment in the well being of fighters. They just want their cut.
If you mean to imply the government will ever have anywhere near the respect and love Dana has for the fighters, you don't follow the sport.
@@theophoricpolymath you true on that he love the fighters more then the government but come on does he really care about them or their ability to make money look at fischer and Chuck Liddell they both have cte and have to pay for help themself and they did a lot for the ufc
@@patrickgrant6389 I think he does legitimately care about individual fighters. Is it unconditional?
@@theophoricpolymath yeah they are better then the other option I think he only respect them as fighters not people
Bro I hope the Ali act doesn’t interfere with great matchups that could be made but I’m also with the idea of the #2 guy getting the guaranteed title shot
I wish that the UFC would pay its fighters well and actually care about their well being. The best fight the best, and if this happens that won’t be the case for very long. But, ultimately, it’s better for the fighters.
The middle ground is easily just for the fighters to unionize. Like other major sports and it prevents government intervention.
If you’re not a UFC champion, you have fighters refusing to fight and choose to wait. It’s still a problem to this day.

They need to unionize. Every sport has. It's time for the UFC to or government intervention is inevitable.
