Only five minutes?? I never can stop after five minutes, I just keep going, because it feels so good and liberating. After half an hour I force myself to stop. And I feel completely charged. I’ve found my new hobby! Thanks, Cas 🙏🎉
Cas, you are a kindred spirit. I am so glad to hear someone else that doesn't fit in with the workaday world! I have struggled bigtime in the corporate world. I never felt like I fit in. I have been fired for a couple of jobs. But I was always afraid of getting fired in every job I had. I am creative. My dreams have been to be a novelist and a professional artist. But I kept hearing from everyone "don't quit your day job. Only a few make it." I am finally done with the crappy day jobs. I got let go of my last job due to not having enough work. So I decided to retire and am now doing what I was meant to do loving it.
My "office" is in my sewing room. Double Trouble! I did Declutter the 2 tier hanging file basket of "someday papers". Almost all went straight into the recycling bin or the shredder!
Don't ever make a go pile... Life happens and will call you away from decluttering. Always put it straight into the trash can. You can always pull it out of the bin later. If you leave that pile on the desk and come back days later, you won't remember... So save yourself having to go through that pile again by just putting the stuff directly into the bin. 💕🌞🌵😷
Oh, no!!! This is my biggest mess! I need 5 min. a day for a month just on my desk and craftroom!!! So now I'm even ahead of preparing for Christmas! Yay!!!
I did this yesterday afternoon. I have an area in my kitchen that I use as an office. I cleared the paperwork and found my car registration was due at the end of this month. Took care of that.

One reason I chose teaching as a career was because I knew it would never get boring. Retired after 33 years in the same district. Teaching is not what it used to be, but it was never boring.
I like how you’ve divided the house into areas. So now going through the house is easier to think in terms of tackling a specific room/part of the room. I like the “bite size approach “. Are you going to employ the same method for 30 Day Organizing?😊
Ooh I like that idea for another 30day challenge!! Think I've still got a lot more decluttering to do first though 🤭 I'd happily go through another 30 little spaces, THEN make them pretty 💗 (Also I decluttered 15 items from my bureau today 🎉)
I also have a hard time following rules at work. Now I've essentially worked for myself for the past 13+ years, the idea of going to work under anyone else just feels like it would be torture. I'm so happy you've found a place where you thrive and help so many others (like me!) If you ever have garden questions, just let me know. I'd love to reciprocate. 😊
I loved it when you got rid of the "congratulations you are a firefighter" letter. My husband has so many irrelevant things! He's been retired from the police department for 11 years and still has his congratulations you've been promoted notice. It's not a fancy letter, it looks like one of the envelopes with the perforations on 3 sides to open it.
So excited today got rid of a lot of paper clutter and convinced hubby to go through 2 dresser drawers that one was a huge win and it didn’t take him no time at all of course I cleaned it up afterwards but huge win in my book so proud of him ❤

Another great 5 minute challenge 👏! Papers are the bane of my existence I can never seem to declutter them all 😔 I've had the opposite problem with jobs since I've quit them all 😂 I too am not good with authority figures or having to be somewhere at a certain time like 9-5, I can't do it 🤔 I'm a night owl so that's one reason & another is I want to make my own schedule and don't want follow their rules either, I'm definitely a rebel 😆 I need to be my own boss too but so far I'm still trying to find that in my life 🤓

The gig economy, social media, reselling, etc gives people a lot more opportunities to contribute in a way that enhances their strengths vs squashing their spirit. ADHD can be a significant impediment for some in a typical 9-5 job too.
I am still going through my mom’s papers she saved for the last 40 years. I had a final stack and then realized that I have no where to store 4 totes. So I am decluttering the paperwork with a vengeance. I have this 30 day chart and will continue even after Sept 30. Just a tip on cables, make a travel bag of cables you need for phones, watches, etc. This will help you so you do not use cables at the airport and risk getting hacked. It’s also nice because you don’t have to unplug your daily stuff. This 30 days event rocks, Cass!! I love your stories and I might be like you and need to start my own business 😊
I’m not a 9-5 sit behind a desk person. But I am a person who likes rules and policies, saves my bacon every time. Plus, I kinda have to as a nurse, I wanna keep my job and license that I worked way too hard for!
I was really slow during the actual declutter, only throwing out 5 envelopes. I did work on some paperwork this afternoon that required me to use the library's scanner and I used their shredder to shred 10 papers while I was there. You were looking for new ideas awhile back and I think highlighting the resources of the library might be of interest. Personally, I do not need, have room for or want a scanner or a printer in my house and I use them so infrequently that using the library's makes more sense to me. They also loan out things like telescopes, sewing machines, tools and bundt cake pans. This might be a good resouce for someone who wants to be a minimalist or someone who just doesn't want to invest in something they will only use once or twice.
Wow, I didn't scratch the surface of the stuff on my desk that has accumulated. But stopping today. Will take up again another day. This challenge has been more than I could have imagined. I am getting rid of far more than I ever anticipated.
I just got my office a few months ago, hubby finally finished the floors, and the other day I added more drawers for the small stuff, so my room is organized and I’m so happy. I had a table in the dining room for the longest time so I finally have an actual office again. I did go through the paper work last week and I shredded so much I had to empty it twice 😂
I didn't declutter today but, I PAINTED A WHOLE WALL!!! I spackled any holes, used caulk to seal the trim, then I painted two coats. I don't have a lot of clutter but I really needed to do that. Listening to Cas being encouraging really helped cheer me on. Thanks, Cas!!!
I found a bunch of gift cards I forgot about, my little staple remover, and got rid of SO many tiny things that just didn't need to be in that drawer! Thanks, Cas!
To be honest, I haven't been doing the categories for the last week, however, I have been decluttering at least 5 things a day, every day for a month. Yesterday I took another carload of donations to the donation center - that makes 3 trips in 5 weeks! A week ago I started in on the 25 years of accumulated paper in boxes in my office - just 5-15 minutes at a time, several times per day - and I'm nearly to the bottom of the final box. Lots of stuff designated for recycling and shredding! Most of the papers I have kept (still too much) is designated for scanning, so that will be the next project. At least it is starting to look more manageable now.
I just found your channel and I love you already 😂😂😂❤ literally the most funny / real channel 😂 I’m also in the middle of my adhd cleaning spree and found your videos
Great videos, Cas. This has been amazing. I'm definitely a great employee. My motto has always been to make my boss look good. If they look good, then I look good even if I don't get acknowledged for the job. It's all good. 😊
I was the worst bank teller, too nice. I couldn't bring myself to bother people with a sales pitch to open a new account because I knew they didn't want to hear it most of the time. I became a nurse and now I am an educator and am mostly autonomous.
I admire you so much for creating your own successful life! I have one of those faces that give my feelings away in staff meetings! No matter how I try to look neutral- they call on me knowing I don’t agree with the latest thing. So I follow the rule but they know I’m going to be working against liking it.
Paper is the easiest area for me to declutter as I am predominately digital and fiercely & consistently manage what paper I have. I use a black-out stamp roller to obscure names/addresses on incoming mail so that I can just toss it immediately. I will even take the time to contact organizations requesting to be removed from all mailing lists. Planners are not an option for me because I feel more work than it is worth. Maintaining shared calendars and household documents digitally is far more efficient for me.
I hear you - now I’m my own boss. I self-govern and am self-sufficient which is a powerful feeling of freedom. Little to no stress (it’s life, there’s always something) and I am so much happier. Declutterring just enhances those feelings and I’m grateful I found your channel!
I'm way behind on these, but they're great when I do them. I actually recently decluttered my desk, so I decided to tackle my stack of construction and computer paper. I found my kid's artwork that I meant to save and lots of the "good" computer paper.
I LOVE YOU!❤ My favorite part about just watching this, not doing it yet. Finding the goals and laughing about not having done anything!!! I am a ladybug 🐞 I drive my kids, employers and family crazy! Yesterday I commented in email on a client who was on the email chain😮. The comment said she was not mentally stable. I thought I was going to get fired but my boss somehow fixed it. In Gmail you cant recall an email past the time you set up right after you send! I have a full day today at home, my son is gone and I am going to declutter or go down the rabbit hole. I have only lived in this place three years and my clutter is young. Where I need the most help is organizing and finding homes for things. I can't believe I only found out about being ADHD last year. I really appreciate you and your ways. Sending love to anyone who reads this! ❤
I am a rule follower. I feel if I am taking someone's money to do a job then I do things their way. If I find I'm not able to then I go look for a different job. That happened a lot when I was younger.
My office room is a disaster. I throw into it everything paperwork wise and never get it taken care of.. But I will see what I can do in 5 minutes. Maybe since it is such a disaster, I will allow myself 15 minutes.
I wish we could keep going with this. I LOOK FORWARD to this every day!!! I've been feeling stuck with too much stuff in my house for so long and this finally did it! Thank you! I wonder if that employee mentality is ADHD RELATED.i struggle too. Or maybe you're a "rebel" tendency (I love Gretchen Rubin too)!
Yes I had a huge problem with authority when I was younger and lost a lot of jobs. Ironically I now work with teenagers, some who act exactly like I did at their age 😅😂
I’ve made two trips to Goodwill 😁 It’s been great forming a habit of a little declutter each day and having the boundary of 5 minutes. (Ok I keep going until the video ends but still!) 😁
Thanks Cass - this is an awesome challenge. I did this one at work. I'm a bit of a hidden rebel...with a mantra "sometimes it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission". I've been here for 25 years, so maybe not a bad idea lol. Have a wonderful day and thanks for all of the encouragement over the years and the last 23 days!
I hear ya with work! Also why I need to work for myself! I get so incredibly bored in every job I've had and can't help but quit and try something else.
Yes! I hate following the rules and stupid bosses that makes the wrong decisions! I became a teacher and I loove it. Now I set the rules and do as I please in the class room! As long as the kids are fine learning what they are supposed to, the parents are happy and I turn up to some of the meetings I am in the clear! ☺️ But I have never been fired even at the desk job I both hated and sucken at! 😂
Pulled a big pile of papers and stuff off my desk. Relocated a few things that really don't belong on my desk. Found a few things that belong but had gone "missing"... as well as more space to move around in.
I'm definitely a rule follower. 🙋♀️😁 5 things was super fast and easy. I often dread going thru my desk because it has become a clutter magnet. HOWEVER... BECAUSE this was super easy I can do it every day until my desk space brings me joy! 🎉😊
I'm back on the wagon! I fell off a few days ago bc of family visiting and work but I said I'm getting back to it bc it's only 5 mins for each spot and better to only have to catch up to 4 days than waiting until the weekend and doing 8 days worth! Also I work well in an office, my day job is in a medical office 😅
I did my year end stuff recently, so there are no papers to toss BUT I sent the paper recycle out, so technically I could say I got rid of a couple hundred papers.
I think: you have done the right thing on calling the police :) It was brave to tell them all, included your worries about calling the firefighters. It is brave to do something EVEN you feel insecure about something. Totally right! So many people could get saved if it is something. And unfortunately many people does not call the police, some people die because nobody recognized the emergency. So your story is encouraging!
Oh Cass, how I can relate…I once worked in a hospital (public relations/media) where they did one of those personality assessments in a leadership training group. My “rule-following” score barely registered. In fact, the facilitator thought it so funny, he mapped out scores (without telling who’s score was who’s). Everyone else’s score for that was super high (they were all nursing administrators). He asked, knowing who was in the room, if anyone could guess which was the outlier. Me, of course. However, he did say that my job required that kind of “think outside the box” mindset, because every situation is different/there are no rules (except policies etc. in place for privacy/etc.) So sometimes it’s okay to not be a role follower! And I’m so glad you created your own business, I love your videos!!!
I could never work in an office or part of a team. It’s definitely not my kind of thing. Since you’ve been doing these videos I’ve realised how well organised your house is. It looks great. Well done.
Cass you are amazing! Sometimes I just am here waiting for the extra story at the end. My favorite part. I love when you do your kind of trumpet ditty when you are excited about something. Please don't stop doing it. You are a joy. My friend reminds me of you. She will eat people's food on them at her place of business🤣🤣
You are an absolute gem. I feel good about all that has gone these last 21 days. I think if I repeat it every month for a year of two I'll have my house in order. I had gotten stuck. We moved (I moved us) three years ago. I had to empty the house we had lived in for 30 years, the garage and shed in our yard. My husband was already in our new home getting the grandkids to and from events. It absolutely melted my brain. I felt as if I shouldn't have to make another decision for the rest of my life. I sold, gave away and threw out at least half of everything we owned. Sadly, our new home, garage, and lack of a shed did not hold everything I moved. I'm great at playing Tetris with our belongings, but it makes it hard to find what I want/need in a timely manner. You are helping me to get moving again and I can not thank you enough. You are my hero.
I could spend the whole 30 days in here! Trying to keep to the 5 minutes was hard as I uncovered empty gadget boxes, guides and ink for a printer I no longer own… But I’m a bit of a rule follower. So, I’m following your instructions to not get burned out Cas! I’m done for today.
I am a rule follower, but it drives me nuts when "the rules" make no sense. I have become more of a "rebel" with menopause though. Keep up the great work, Cas!
I’m a good rule follower…if the rules make sense. If they don’t I try to change them, or ignore them. I have pretty good success when I point out potential problems with a poorly thought out policy, especially if it could cost the organization money. “I wonder what the organization’s liability would be if…” stops a lot of stupid policies from being implemented. I’m retired now, but I had my last job for 27 years, over lapping with that I was in the military (active duty and reservist) for a roughly equal amount of time. One good thing about being places so long is that when stupid ideas get proposed you can point out they haven ‘t worked in the past. I was told I was extremely negative. When the idea that failed, failed yet again, they stopped telling me I was negative and started listening at least occasionally.
omg... I can't believe I'm admitting this publicly but I have paperwork and literally still sealed envelopes from the past year piled up in one space in my office... I can't bring myself to start opening all this crap and just want to chuck it as is😂
I had doom* bags of old mail in my spare room. I took it in chunks and it feels so light to have it gone. The important things kept and a lot recycled. Doom = didn't organize only moves. 😂
@@jwuertz7101 Oh, yes. That's what happens when company is coming and you have to clean off the far end of the dining room table. Put it in a sack/box/basket and stash it somewhere...only to be forgotten.🤤
I am in Enneagram eight, so I am very good at working in any job. However, I have an automatic distrust of authority. And if they are not competent, I will not do anything they tell me to do. So being a teacher was actually a good job for me because it allowed me to be able to ignore my principals. 😀
I have only ever had 1 job that i kept for any real length of time. It was an internship i did and i did stay till the contact was up but all my other jobs were the same as you i have a hard time with respecting authority and rules and regulations. Right now i am actually doing home care for a private home care company and ive been with this company for almost 6 months now and i am still liking it but i think its because i dont have to work so much with coworkers or a boss always around i am usually just alone with the clients caring for them and keeping them company

I’m not a 9-5 sit behind a desk person. But I am a person who likes rules and policies, saves my bacon every time. Plus, I kinda have to as a nurse, I wanna keep my job and license that I worked way too hard for!
I’m so happy your channel exists lol 💯
Thanks! I appreciate you saying that!
I don’t have an office either but I do have a drawer full of paper that I know I can discard. Onward and upward
Rebel here!! 😃
Wow, I didn't scratch the surface of the stuff on my desk that has accumulated. But stopping today. Will take up again another day. This challenge has been more than I could have imagined. I am getting rid of far more than I ever anticipated.
Hi Cas and Everyone!! I hope all is well. Been waiting for this video and paper work. This two is my hardest and still need to work on.
Starting your own business is so impressive!
You’re very funny and awesome 🤩
You're welcome!
Great job!!
I am loving these videos.

I"m with ya Cas! You keep being you, it's great!
I am here, again! Feeling pumped! Thanks, Cas!
I hear you - now I’m my own boss. I self-govern and am self-sufficient which is a powerful feeling of freedom. Little to no stress (it’s life, there’s always something) and I am so much happier. Declutterring just enhances those feelings and I’m grateful I found your channel!
Me too!
Day 21- I’m in!
I'm way behind on these, but they're great when I do them. I actually recently decluttered my desk, so I decided to tackle my stack of construction and computer paper. I found my kid's artwork that I meant to save and lots of the "good" computer paper.
I LOVE YOU!❤
My favorite part about just watching this, not doing it yet.
Finding the goals and laughing about not having done anything!!!
I am a ladybug 🐞
I drive my kids, employers and family crazy!
"My clutter is young." I love this!😁
Rebel against the man eating people’s lunches 😂😂😂😆 you got me 🙌
Recycled six old manuals. Yippeeeeeee!
Twins😂
"Im going to put this out to remind me how bad I suck " yes😂
I've been loving this series, thank you for doing it (even the paperwork!) 😊
I had not seen the top of my desk for at least 2 years, it's been on my list to do forever.
I just found this - algorithm I guess. You have inspired me to catch up. I decluttered my Tupperware cupboard listening to you
Pulled a big pile of papers and stuff off my desk. Relocated a few things that really don't belong on my desk. Found a few things that belong but had gone "missing"... as well as more space to move around in.
I'm definitely a rule follower. 🙋♀️😁
5 things was super fast and easy.
Funny I didn't know this was today's topic and I did this today 😊🎉❤TFS xoxo
Good job!
I always over think my clutter and get overwhelmed with it. I will try this ❤
I am a rule follower, but it drives me nuts when "the rules" make no sense.
Same😂
@@jwuertz7101 Oh, yes. That's what happens when company is coming and you have to clean off the far end of the dining room table. Put it in a sack/box/basket and stash it somewhere...only to be forgotten.🤤
THe 5 minute rule helps me get started. SOME IS BETTER THAN NONE.
I am in Enneagram eight, so I am very good at working in any job. However, I have an automatic distrust of authority. And if they are not competent, I will not do anything they tell me to do. So being a teacher was actually a good job for me because it allowed me to be able to ignore my principals. 😀
You're amazing!
5 minute decluttering is a better idea. I burnout after 15 minutes (short-term memory ). It took years to figure out is cleaning/decluttering are adapted to how my brain works👩🎨. I LOVE YOUR videos.
I am an excellent, follow-the-rules kind of person! I am creative, also! Yay, me! Admire you!
