It feels like an invisible rule at this point: "If you're going to show Shippu Jinraikyaku in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, do it like Evo Moment 37 with White Ken to represent Daigo against Chun-Li to represent Justin."
This move is very special in my opinion. Because in SF history, Ryu and Ken started as almost literal clones and slowly become more personalized and unique, with Ken specializing in uppercuts and more multi hit attacks... Hence fire srk, shoryureppa super in SF2, shinryuken in SFA. But there's another important thing: kicks. Ken has the multi hit Tatsu, a new kick move and new kick normals in ST, a kick overhead (as opposed to Ryu's punch overhead), etc... That new direction for his moveset started to appear in ST. So after SFA's contribution of new supers, both focused on uppercuts, SF3's introduction of the SJK super seems like the culmination of Ken's personalized shoto style. He needed a super focused on kicks to fulfill the direction of his shoto style that is inclined to more kicks and uppercuts. Also it was good that SF3 developed that direction further with his new kick command normals.
So true, I noticed Ken isn't as focused on his Hadouken and the animation of it is shorter than Ryu's in most games. But the extra kicks that Ken has are super satisfying, as well as the fire Shoryuken
I always liked that Axe Kick finisher he had in the Marvel Vs series but the cancel he had in EX2 really caught me off guard. At first, I thought.. May be it's for when your super gets blocked. Partially it is until I did trial mode. Good work on this vid specially on the 3rd strike version!
The Marvel vs series was when I was first introduced to this super. I had just assumed the axe kick finisher was always part of the move. So, when it was missing in Capcom vs SNK it drove me nuts.
The Marvel series had better special effects overall. For most plain fireballs, super fireballs, etc, also the fire uppercuts, Ken's iconic Shinryuken with the hurricane-like effect from the fire trail.
What strikes me most about this move is that they basically got the animation perfect the very first time. Shows just how special the pixel art was in the SF3 series that it took over 25 years for capcom to finally come up with another representation that did the move justice in SF6
In Smash 4 (In the case of Ryu) and Smash Ultimate (Ryu and Ken) they have 2 Final Smash depending on the situation If they are far away, for example, Ryu will do a Shinku Hadouken and Ken will do a Shin Shoryuken But if they have an opponent close or literally attached to them, Ryu would do a Shin Shoryuken and Ken would do a Shinku Jinraikyaku
you're the best for making this. even got nice footage of the EX games! knew i wasn't crazy thinking it had a different start to the super. love the anime up kicks
It was nice to see that the Marvel series, in MvSF, assimilated SJK as soon as it was introduced in SF3. (Just like Ryu's Shin Srk) That kind of connection is interesting. One franchise keeping in touch with the updates made by the other one. That also happened with KOF when Fatal Fury was alive... though the conversion wasnt as efficient. Sometimes it was 1-2 years late to assimilate a new move. But SF3 and MvSF are literally releases from the same year, 97.
XD i love that you parried Chun-Li's super in 3rd Strike before doing Shippu Jinrai-Kyaku i respect that, i missed Shippu Jinrai. it's my second super Ken has first will always be Shinryuken
Marvel Super heros vs streetfighter version is easily the best to me ..theres something raw and visceral about it the spark X that comes off from each hit, how high he goes and the final hit he uses to slam them back into the ground.. .the screen flashes at each hit..that just screams arcade machine its easily the most satisfying for me . it also helps that i have alot of great memories with that game..MVC recaptures it well too..but theres somthing about that one..its the most raw and unfiltered version of the move.
I love how the Shippu Jinraikyaku in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in 3:10 has that last kick that slams the other character down. The OD tatsu in SF 6 has Ken do that slamming kick to the ground too. I wonder if that's where they got it from?
In my opinion the best one was street fighter x tekken because it's the first one with the 3d graphics and the cinematic camera also gives more hype to it and it goes very high
For a move that has "Whirlwind" and "Thunder" in it's name, It sure has a lot of flame in it. SF X Tekken is the only game that portrayed the name right lmao
Why is it only a level 3 in SFA3? They could've made 3 levels of it, just like the other super combos. Lvl 1: 3 kicks on the ground + 4 kicks on the final Tatsu. 7 hits. Lvl 2: 4 kicks on the ground + 5 kicks on the final Tatsu. 9 hits. Lvl 3: 5 kicks on the ground + 6 kicks on the final Tatsu. 11 hits.
I hope they someday will mix shippu with SFV super,it’s gonna be dope,I still don’t know why it’s not super in SFIV,shouryreppa should be his second ultra combo, shippu as super I’m wanna, this Ken best super alongside with SF6 Shoryureppa
The direction thing is because of an overlap; in games where you can use more than 1 super at a time, Shinryuken is more traditionally QCF+K rather than QCB+K, in which case Shippu gets moved to the QCB (including in 3S with the home console modifiers) The amount of times is due most crossover series having more simple hyper combo commands Rather than double inputs, it’s single input with two buttons (with the exception of OSF4, since it’s an EX move and not a super/ultra)
In MVC1 Ken and Akuma weren't added to the roster, so they added them as transformations for Ryu. Ken's transformation being called "Brother Ryu", if I remember correctly from the game magazines back in the 90s.😊

Shippū Jinraikyaku (疾風迅雷脚) means "Hurricane Swift Thunder Leg"

The EX series are underrated, and so is the cancel-able Jinrai

One of my favorite supers apart from shun goku statsu, glad kens getting more love
I audibly said "do the thing" out loud before the Evo moment 37 reference and smiled ear to ear after it happened
Didn’t even realize Shippu wasn’t in SFV at all.
Neither did I, I thought he was going to put the Guren Senpukyaku.
I assume you meant SFIV.
One of my favorite super moves of all time. Im glad they brought it back for SF6, i had no idea he had it in smash 😳

It definitely feels weird that he doesn't have it in most versions, I like the final "oomph" of the move
It came from X-Men vs SF where Ken's tatsus were anti air and had that kick at the end
Has anyone ever noticed how Hugo seems...overly animated for a street fighter character. Compared to other fighters? Maybe it's just me.
He's from SF3 which introduced a lot of extra animation to the sprites

Man the VS and alpha 3 versions fucked my memory and made me think alpha 2 Ken also could Jinrai.
Such a goated move
This is Ken’s finishing move.
Street fighter five has been extracted from existence
Why is it only a level 3 in SFA3? They could've made 3 levels of it, just like the other super combos.
Lvl 1: 3 kicks on the ground + 4 kicks on the final Tatsu. 7 hits.
Lvl 2: 4 kicks on the ground + 5 kicks on the final Tatsu. 9 hits.

The fact that they can't decide which direction nor how many times you have to quarter-circle really irritates me.
The direction thing is because of an overlap; in games where you can use more than 1 super at a time, Shinryuken is more traditionally QCF+K rather than QCB+K, in which case Shippu gets moved to the QCB (including in 3S with the home console modifiers)
