    I am currently attempting to record a video interview for graduate school. It has proven to be much more of a challenge than I thought. On the plus size, I don't have to wear pants.

    I’m not sure this really helps people or employers to get the best match? The jury is still out.
    HOWEVER… IF we are doing it this way, how about having the employer do a video as well?
    Show and tell me what the job is about and what the company is about.
    Show me the work space.
    Show the smiling faces of the people who already work for you.
    Let me see someone else doing the job I am applying for if possible.
    The possibilities are endless! :-)

      I did try it and I must say that I didn't like it. It tries to mimic very closely what is done in a preselection interview and I believe this is the reason it fails. When you digitalise a process you should not try to make an electronic copy.

    I just feel like these video interviews are just a means for certain companies to discriminate without us nbeing aware. How do we know the interviewer is unbiased and fair. What if they don't like my accent, or the way I wear my hair or even worse what if they just don't like the way I look in general???? How does this protect me and others from unprofessional or unethical interviewers???

    One important item to keep in mind is to keep the background simple, almost everyone in this video has a very busy background this will distract your interviewer.

    HireVue is an awful to be interviewed. Not everyone out there is comfortable being recorded. If employers want to save time and money, they should have Skype interviews, which would still be convenient for them yet more personable. I love in person interviews because they can actually see me, my personality and I can make eye contact. Staring at a computer camera and talking about your accomplishments and yourself? Really? It’s SAD.

      exactly. Im currently doing one for T-Mobile and I'm on the verge of tears and about to just say fuck it and wait for another job to respond back to me because honestly, I'd rather be in person as well. this is the laziest shit i ever encountered in my life and its literally pissing me off. I don't like the way I look and sound on this stupid shit and then just watching it count down makes me even more nervous. this is probably one of the worst thing anyone could've ever done. not everyone is even tech savvy.

    • @jamesleon4883
      @jamesleon4883 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      HireVue doesn’t replace the final face to face interview and they also have live interviewing options which is similar to Skype but provides more structure so bias doesn’t impact the process too much. You should really read about why companies use video interviews... do research

    • @michelleriley1536
      @michelleriley1536 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True- but hirevue allows primary screening at yours/ their convenience. I recorded one at 2am. That prevents them from having to keep hundreds of appointments just for intake. (Since this product is used by both small and very large companies alike).
      These tricks helped. Just unclutter your background, keep it well lit, be sure to carry your tone as you would in normal conversation and make eye contact but don't laser stare into the camera. I passed one of these and messed up a few answers. I honestly don't think they ever listen to these answers. I think they are picking words related to the job description, tone variation, and facial expression. Mine was for a customer service job- they basically wanted to make sure we were capable of being friendly bc cold answers create supervisor calls.

    ...great... "HireVue".. another way the job-interview process can becomes less personal, and more impossibly competitive.. As if job fairs and website application processes weren't inhuman enough already. Now if you don't have a bubbly video personality, forget it.
    These industries want to understand why they can't find enough employees for some jobs; it's because they don't wanna make the effort to find people the old fashion way, and instead shuffle everyone into these automated systems, like robots.
    IMO, more workers need to start REFUSING/boycotting any job that doesn't do it as in-person at-location interviews. This is going way too far, and it's destroying our countries middle-class employment..

    • @TaoPhysiques
      @TaoPhysiques 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can see it both ways. It's more convenient to apply on a computer at home and it saves employers time having to interact with every single person who walks through the door for a job. Sounds counter-productive, but upper management, nowadays, spend more time running a business. If anything, they let HR deem who is worthy to interview and who isn't. Granted, I wouldn't mind talking face to face with managers if it meant landing an interview.

    • @profemeritus534

      @@cjl4232 Below 5% US unemployment rate that is not the way to think about it. You have the skills and you are ready to devote time to do the work - the employer needs you more than you need them. If you don't consider a company with stupid videointerviews they can end up searching for months for similarly skilled human resource and meanwhile the unfulfilled job results in heavy losses in income.
      Though in reality I don't think any company really uses videointerviews for recruting purposes - it's just too unreliable and unpopular, it's only good for screening potential employees.

    I understand the need for this type of interviewing but I don't see any protection for the applicants privacy. There aren't any disclosures etc. Since there are no disclosures or protections in place how can qualified applicants feel comfortable with this process. There are too many risks here for the applicant, and the company what is there was a breach...will HireVue take that responsibility and be liable for losing all the applicants information to some foreign entity? Applicants are going through a lot of scamming schemes to get to real jobs, is this another scheme to access applicants private information. I don't recommend this at all, it is dangerous and a big accident waiting to happen.

Do you get a chance to prepare beforehand before you record or does the question pop up and then you immediately have to answer with one chance and you can't do a second take? I feel it to be quite stressful if I don't know whats going to be said and then the camera starts rolling.

And I work for a big company that does not hire this way. To me it seems like an easy way to scan office or person to person workers, but tell me how it can determine that I am a skilled ticketed tradesmen that really needs to understand how to work safely and efficiently in a dangerous enviroment? System seems like it is only good for some positions. I moved on to the next oil company that does hire traditionally with a phone call and in person interview
