Wow, seeing a full CG version of the best races of Initial D for this video game reminded me of how good the writers were when scripting how the races were to happen. It caught emotion.
Dragga some times would take 2 episodes to finish one! Even If the first stage had shitty looks, It was sooo detailed!

+epicwarding They are looking more than lovely. Anime's graphics especially before the movie look more than outdated now. Thing is though, firstly those graphics won't blend in all that well with the anime elements and second of all, gaming cutscenes just like movies, they need production and time. Graphics like this for a weekly series is not viable due to time constraints.
+epicwarding I thoroughly enjoyed the entirety of the stage series, as well as watching the rapid development of cg implemented into the series. It would be phenomenal if they cleared a reboot of all the stages, but like George said, that intricacy of the cg advancements also yields in a greater production time. Even so....I'd wait 5 years just for the first stage reboot. Initial D is definitely one of my all-time favorite anime series, and the arcade games are magnificent. I haven't been able to play anything after stage 4, but my god it's so much fun.
Well with such graphic "cheats" you could be easier to make more content faster.
if you use them right and put them in the right way (or it would be horrible mix)
atleast re-using stuff is possible and edit even though I love the old look in the first series just not the 3D models that is quite outdated and hard to look at.
Freddy Ready well the drawing was cool and it's charm was that it represented the characters a lot more than the seasons after it. But the cheats you are talking about would make it just an amv montage, really anticlimactic.

even though some of the driving could be enjoyed a bit more some places and you could maybe have filters/shaders to make it look better or more fitting.

The CGI is so nice and crisp. Love this.
Never before or since has a CG racing cinematic made my blood boil like this has. I can feel the intensity of racing like this so hard I feel like I'm about to pass out.

I want there to be a game that is about touge racing and stuff like initial d, but u want it too be MORE realistic and less arcade like, sorta like mashing together the initial d style with other games like forza and gran turismo
+Kyle Counter The closest I can get right now is with something like that is Dirt Rally.
+Kyle Counter, best you can get now for that is assetto corsa, it has much touge courses and some good cars and still be made more, only PC tho, check my last couple vids if you want see an example (not an ad)

Carl Marcus i think its a measurement for stability training during drive, if the water not split out it helps the driver know he’s getting better.
Carl Marcus it's a first stage reference, Takumi's dad gave him a cup of water not to spoil it while delivering tofu.

for a game from 2008 not bad at all. i remember i was at some convention in tokyo and a booth was selling some games there and they had extreme stage. so i bought it and when i went back to america i played it and i can't believe how good of a game it was. it definitely should have a US release

The fact that this advanced rendering was on PS3 in 2008. 2 years after the console came out is mind blowing. This opening was ahead of its time. I also own a copy of this game on PS3.
Isn’t it an FMV though? Realistically an FMV can run on anything and look decent, so long as the visual fidelity of the file is up to snuff.
Case and point, Sonic Forces. Whenever Original The Character isn’t needed for a cutscene, they are just FMV that have some film grain on them, and perhaps a lower resolution. But because Original the Character needs to rendered in real time, the film grain effect isn’t there and it’s upscaled to your resolution, so it’s a very noticeable difference on PC at least.
They cooked so hard with this opening. If only this style of animation appeared on other Initial D adaptations/projects….

Something cool people may not have noticed:
Some of the shots are made as if a person is spectating and recording the race. While most of the animation’s camerawork is smooth, these shots are shaky and sometimes the subject (cars) aren’t centered properly. Examples I noticed:

Update, 6/23/20: I'm a weeb now. Initial D sent me down the rabbit hole of anime. Serial Experiments Lain is now my favorite anime.
