    Just a small correction: Black pigment is all colors, meaning it is made up by mixing all of the pure colors together, but since we're talking reflected light, it is the absence of all color to our human vision. This happens because color is a frequency of light. For example, violet begins around 380nm in wavelength, on up to about 750nm for red at the other end of the spectrum. All other colors are somewhere in between. Since we "see" objects and color as a result of light reflecting off the object, we see color based on the frequency of light that is reflected. Red paint looks red because it is only reflecting red wavelengths and absorbing all other frequencies. Reflected light is a "subtractive" process, meaning that red paint is reflecting red frequencies and absorbing, or "subtracting" all other frequencies.
    Although black is made up of all colors, since it is "subtractive" and reflecting light, the material absorbs all color frequencies, so no color is reflected. White paint, also not a "color", is the opposite, the paint reflects all frequencies, and with light, when all frequencies are combined, it is white, the opposite of black pigment. Light is an "additive" process when viewed directly. For example, to get orange light, you simply just need light in the 590-635nm wavelength. When all colors of light are added together, our eyes see it as white. Orange paint, however has to absorb all other frequencies and reflect only light in the orange frequency range.
    This is because natural light, or light from a flashlight, or lamp, etc is typically white light (or very close), so it contains all of the frequencies of the visible spectrum. If you have a light source that is off white (lower on the color temperature scale) and it looks yellowish, then items will have a yellowish cast to them, etc. But for the sake of understanding the differences between reflected and direct light, we base it on a light source that is considered to be a true white light.
    Dark paint, in general, shows flaws, black shows it the most because the shiny clear coat reflects all light frequencies (clear is not a color, but the smoothed surface is reflective, like a mirror, so it reflects all frequencies) without any dilution from any color frequencies reflected by the base coat.

    Black is a color! I don't care what anyone says. If black is all the colors put together like he says then that would still make Black a color. You can see black can't you? It's a different COLOR then all the other COLORS in the specreum isn't it? If you want something to be black you cant use yellow or red or green because it's not the COLOR Black!!

    Great video but.... black is an absence of colour. White is all the colours.

    • @eastwoodco
      @eastwoodco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Incorrect. Pure white is the absence of colors. You cannot mix colors to create white.

    • @leo773
      @leo773 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eastwoodco Thanks for th reply, and your right ou can´t get white with all the colours mix from tins. But I was taught in school that white is made up of all the colours of the spectrum and black was an absence of colour. I had not made myself clear, sorry.

    Kevin I have a question regarding steering wheels. I have a 1977 C10 and a 1984 Monte Carlo. BOTH of them the steering wheels have become "gummy" or "sticky" where it seems the composition of the original plastic (or whatever it is) has changed and is no longer a hard surface.
    Is there any way to save the steering wheels and bring the gummy, tacky, sticky surface of them back to a hardened surface like they were when they rolled off the line back in the day?
    Thanks so much!
    Chris

      Christian Blankenship try PPG Acryli-Clean DX330. I used in my 80 Z 28 Imitation rope strength wheel. Oem Carmine Red. Didn't remove color....the sun and time is changing the chemical compounds of the plastic. Good Luck.
