  • In this video, I'll be showing you my minimalistic camp setup built around my Snow Peak Alpha Breeze. The past few trips, we've been exclusively using our Springbar Vagabond tent, which is a fantastic tent. However, it felt great camping with the Alpha Breeze again and trying out this new setup with it. Hope you all enjoy this video, if you have any questions, comment down below and we can chat! Thank you for watching!

    Hi Ryan, Very cool that you went back to the Alpha Breeze and still like it. You may remember that thanks to you, I got the Springbar Outfitter (9 x 7 tent) and have take it camping now 3 times. At first I was so happy inside the little “cabin” that I did not want to get out. And while that is still true, this last time I found the set up to be a little tiring. Like you I put a tarp over the Springbar, a big set up in and of itself. Then there is which included a big tarp to cover the Springbar, plus moving in all the furniture and the Pendleton floor blanket inside, to be a little tiring. So next trip it is back to a small tent for a change. I say this because it is nice to have more than one tent to switch off. It is fun to create many different camping experiences and environments. Thank you for the inspiration.

      Hey Francine, I’m right there with you! The larger setups are great for some trips, but it’s definitely nice having a smaller setup as well to keep things simple. Especially as it’s getting hotter out, I find myself not wanting to do as much setup work out there! I just sold some of my old backpacking gear to upgrade to some new lightweight gear that would be better suited for the three of us, so we should have some ultra minimal setups coming up soon! Before I started this channel, I never knew how much I’d enjoy these campsite setups, but I have to say it’s been fun! Thank you for watching the videos and commenting; it’s helped build this awesome community of people we have on here who all love spending time outside!

      @@rtmadani Hey Ryan, I really enjoy your videos and hope you keep them coming. I have 4 night camping trip coming up.Thought I would take a smaller tent but am sticking with the Springbar. I will simplify things by 1. Not setting up a separate tarp for cooking (I have the Hexa Med like you do) 2. Not taking the Pendleton Yakima for the tent floor (taking smaller and lighter blanket as “area rug”). Will see if this makes things easier. I WILL set up a large tarp over the Springbar as I enjoy having a covered porch. BTW, I got the Snowpeak Peg Bag due number of pegs my set up (even the simple one) requires. Between Springbar and tarp, I think it is 22-24 SP solid stakes I have to hammer in and remove. Another splurge SP purchase by a fellow Snow Peak junkie. Looking forward to seeing your adaptations for summer weather.

    Just discovered your videos and love them (for the beautiful shots, the sense of serenity, the great discussion of gear and the inspiration from seeing your setup). Re your comment above about the setup work with the canvas tent, that's actually why I got an air tent. I've only taken camping once (and it's monstrously big and heavy, being a polycotton tunnel tent), but it really does simplify setup, especially if you're trying to do it by yourself.

    I absolutely love our Amenity Dome (L). The shorter clearance doesn't really bother me, and it has a lighter colored inner tent w/ darker rain fly, so it doesn't let as much light in. We've got it paired with the vestibule awning as well, and it seems like it's a bit deeper than the Alpha Breeze, w/ an optional side door. Downside is that thing gets TOASTY in the TX heat. Nice to know I'm not alone in my Snow Peak addiction!

    • @rtmadani
      @rtmadani  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah the Amenity Dome's are awesome tents! I do like the brown color way on them and the vestibule is huge!! I could definitely see it getting hot in there without the mesh, they should really add some screens in the vestibules!

    can you do a deeper dive into your sleep system and tent set up? like actually a breakdown of the individual items you talked about in this video one by one and explain why you use them, what for, as well as pricing.
    i personally would like to know more about the pendleton blankets for the bed and floor. i've gone back and forth in my plans to either upgrade my camp blankets or find a good quality sleeping bag. but i hate sleeping bags. im a restless sleeper and i move around all night. so idk if i want to spend a ton of money on a bag just to potentially be tangled up in it and have a mostly uncomfortable sleeping experience. i would much prefer a good blanket and some base layers.
    love your videos btw!

    Could talk more about using hot tent wood stove under your awning. It is hard to see the stovepipe modification so it can sit near under awning. Also, what is holding the stove pipe up?

    • @rtmadani
      @rtmadani  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah so I'm using a Winnerwell Nomad Medium Stove with a couple 45 degree angle pipe sections to allow clearance from the tarp. As long as it's not windy the pipe nests firmly together and is able to hold itself. The top mesh section also has spots for rope lines, which I always have just incase. I really like the wood stove for cooking and it's very efficient. If I did it again, I may have went with the large size since I exclusively use it outside my tent.

  • @AmandaWoolsey
    @AmandaWoolsey 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the Dometic sink setup, too. Just need to find a longer line to run it out the back of my GX470 to my door. If you (or anyone watching) happens to ever find to find one, I’d love to hear

    • @rtmadani
      @rtmadani  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm looking for an extend water line as well. Everything I saw in store at Home Depot was the hard plastic type and the Dometic line is more like silicone and pliable, which helps create a leakproof seal when connected. I'm searching for something as well though, so if I find a good one I'll let you know!

    Can you talk about the hot tent stove chimney setup? How did you get stove chimney to support that bend ?

    • @rtmadani
      @rtmadani  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I purchased two 45degree pipe sections and definitely recommend it if using under a tarp. I’ve always used it this way and it feels very sturdy. If it’s windy, I bring ropes to tie down the chimney as there are metal hooks on the top insert. I went with the winnerwell nomad medium, but probably would go for the large if I did it again.

    I notice you have the Snow Peak Field Kettle here. Did you find it was worthwhile over the Fellow Stagg and MSR Titan kettles you used to make coffee in your other videos? • @rtmadani
      @rtmadani  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was interested in the Field Kettle originally, but was told it wouldn’t be great for pour over coffee and the water would just pour out too fast. This is not the case at all. You have a lot of control while pouring and there’s a stopper to help control the flow. It’s way more convenient than bringing a regular gooseneck, which like you said is just not ideal for storing. The Field Kettle is built really well, ergonomics are great, and it hardly takes up any room in my bin.

    Since I’m getting a very similar set up to this and my wallet hates me for it lol it’s got me thinking when you go on hikes etc. do you ever worry about leaving your campsite unattended? Do you put some things away or just leave it as is with no worries? Thanks as always!

    • @rtmadani
      @rtmadani  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice, glad to hear you're getting your setup built out, and yes it's defininitely a lot at first! I'm always a little concerned when going hiking or just leaving our setup unattended. If I'm only bringing the Alpha Breeze and using the awning, then we close it up with the chairs, igt, etc underneath. It honestly doesn't look like much with everything closed up and with a pair of shoes sticking out under the fly, it gives the appearance that someone's inside. If I have everything under the hexa tarp though, I honestly just hope for the best.
      Fortunately, I haven't had any sketchy encounters or theft, but that's not to say it doesn't happen.
      I'm not sure what area you're in, but in WA and OR there are a few nice HipCamp's that we've stayed at and always more popping up. I never worry about my gear when staying at a HipCamp since it's on someone's private land. In some cases, you get the entire place to yourself. This is definitely the safest choice and honestly there are some really nice locations on there.
      We still have some favorite campgrounds that we go to and occasionally stay on BLM land as well, but it's always a slight risk as you never know who will show up while your hiking.

      @@rtmadani Hey, do you still have this opinion? I dropped and broke my excellent Ticla Lantern a while back and and have been in the market for something new. Thanks to your videos, I'm curious about this Snow Peak Home & Camp lantern. I'm curious if you've looked at the new (?) Barebones Outpost lantern, which I'm also considering.

      @@vicosku The Home & Camp is still my favorite by far. The Barebones lanterns are nice as well, but in my opinion the Snow Peak Home and Camp is nicer. The color temperature and way it lights up a space is just really nice.

    Is the mattress big enough for three of you ?

    • @rtmadani
      @rtmadani  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s better for two, but with a small child it’s possible just not ideal. We all still fit on it, but will probably be get our son his own sleeping pad soon.
