I totally can understand why a Joel Madden would hit on Hilary. He's a man, she's cute and pretty. Still doesn't make it right. There are things you could do but you shouldn't. He didn't care. In our normal reality, for a 25 year old going out with a 26 year old would be not possible and it wouldn't even really happen.

I was around the same age as Hilary back then and as a teenager at that time in your life you sometimes thought dating an older guy is "cool" and "grown-up" and tbh I didn't think anything of it when Hilary was dating Joel. Only now I realize what that age-gap *REALLY* meant. There is NO way a 25-year-old guy has anything in common with a 16-year-old girl - so yeah, the "relationship" was straight-up predatory and paedophilia. Period. And they blamed her while not calling out the adult(s) in the situation. Disgusting.

I remember thinking the way they treated those models was awful as a child watching! I can't imagine how much worse it would be as an adult. The beauty standards in the 90's were so damaging to many of us that had to grow up through that. I remember very clearly a scene in ANTM where they were denying a black woman a chance on the runway because she was too dark and apparently the lighting would not work with her skin. I remember my Dad literally shouting at the TV he was so angry at the racism 😭. I remember so many terrible ways the models were treated. It was all done for shock factor. But was really damaging to children's view of their self image seeing this 😢. We had to grow up in the time you had to be a 'size zero', unrealistically 'nauturally' beautiful with minimal makeup, if you were a minority almost nothing was 'for you' and you didn't fit in unless you changed yourself. There was a stylist, Rachel Zoe or something like that, who worked with Nicole and other young Hollywood starlets around that time. She herself was startlingly skinny and it's been said she'd shame her female clients for eating more than a stick of celery.
Personally, I thought early Nicole was really cute with her colorful hair and few extra pounds.

Another proof that entertainment is fake. Reason for Avril's success was that she had the image of the cool punky alternative chick on the other side of the spectrum where you have the "fake" popstars like Britney. But it's more or less the same. "Rebellious" acts like had the rather easy job of talking smack against plastic popstars and fake superficiality and how they're not like that, but "real". You cannot be real in entertainment. Was Avril even real to begin with or was she always crafted to be the public Avril? Probalby the 2nd. Never questioned her.
But now to the thing you mentioned. It's unbelievable how Avril made the switch from punky rocker to plastic pop and still it seems she had massive success (at least "Hello Kitty" was huge, horrible song). How on earth is that even possible? As you say she became what she claimed she hated and nobody cares how fake that is? Or is it in reality just a singer trying to stay relevant and dressing up totally different for work isn't problematic because it's just her job?
One shouldn't trust entertainers, especially young ones will say whatever they are saying. It's the image. It's for the show. It's for sales. Good Charlotte did "Lifestyle of the rich and famous". Then I suppose they got rich and famous themselves. What now?

@@SavedByGrace_CitizenEmperorユウ sadly, most people are sheep and follow what they are told and can't make up their own opinion. Avril has always been a wanna be. She is using the same "punk don't give a fuck" attitude to stay relevant. Absolute poser that can't just act and dress her age. It's disturbing..

@@SavedByGrace_CitizenEmperorユウ honestly, i wouldn't call her change fake. many girls were big tomboys as teenagers & hated all things girly, but in their 20s, they started embracing their femininity & dressing up. gotta do with patriarchy & societal pressure as young girls, but that's another argument for another day

When I tell you Hilary Duff is THE ONLY celeb I actually like and stay up to date with I’m not kidding. She has a light no one else has she seems genuine with no malicious intent. She’s so unproblematic and stays in her own lane Despite the fact that she went through so much growing up in hollyweird she remained strong and has a lot to show for it today
