Great build. I’ve built several of these back when the plans came out. Great flyers if you don’t get heavy. I’m still flying and building gas large ships. Today’s DLE and DA motors should be fantastic. Terry&ThePirates
Andy, this is going to be great, I hope that it does fly well, I have a Yellow Aircraft Cap 10B I would love a Cap 21 especially that size. Looking forward to this build!
I too love flying the CAP 21’s. They are a simple, elegant design. Can’t wait to see her fly!! I just thought of this, If you coordinate a gathering of chipmunks, I’ll surely venture up north. When you build your Texan, could you possibly do a video on covering that aircraft? You do such a good job with the compound curves on the fuselages, that I think quite a few members of your audience would a appreciate a warbird being covered with monokote or whatever shrinkable material you like these days. Thanks man!
Way cool project!! Interesting that it has that airfoil too. Same as on full scale Extra's as well. I'm aware of one ARF designer that has a new model being manufactured with that airfoil because he says that it "breaks loose" a lot easier than the more conventional airfoils we use. I was 21 when that plan was published and remember that article. Never saw one built / fly so will watch with great interest!!
Thank you for explaining the hot wire tool building. I have always wanted to try to make a cutter. I am doing a cap 21 arf. Please continue with showing your build. I would love to watch.
Hi Andy, You have convinced me that I will be able to cut the foam wing, stab, and rudder for the A3J Vigilante project. Thanks for the info on the cutting bow and the voltage and amperage as a start. I bought a long kit off Ebay and Fiberglass Specialties had all the fiberglass parts needed. I will check for some foam companies near me, if not will try Foam Factory. You and the family stay safe.
Yup I have dun my foam core all very similar to you even made a bow bout same from watching lots utube I also made checker board pattern templates to cutout a honeycomb pattern at ends of wings to lighten it up plus I use quarter in cf for my spars
Andy, I forgot to ask but are you keeping a list of the wood sizes and amount you are using for the Cap 21? If so, could I get you to email them to me as I am having a hard time figuring out the amount of wood to order. Thanks.
Awesome vid glad to see a real fellow model builder keeping this side of the hobby alive.

Great stuff Andy please keep us updated on the build we all love a cap 21.

Looks awesome! I can't wait to see you finish and fly it!

Another great project from scratch 👍👍👍…man you are awesome 😎
Cool project! I can't wait to see how you sheet the foam!

Looking forward to this one. Love too see these techniques 👌🏻👍🏻
Awesome video! In the process of the same thing building a Stinger 60! Thanks for sharing!!!

Great project. Cool plane.
Ordered from Fiberglass Specialties a month ago, took a little while but they showed up. Need to order a cowl and canopy for a Mig 3 now.

awesome can’t wait for more updates !
calculations seem to be 1/3 scale, maybe. Nice project!
Practical scale in Germany had a Cap 21
Bored eh Andy? 😂😂 I have SEVERAL balsa wood kits I need built if you need some winter build projects.

@@johnnymaniscalco9352 I order massive quantities, enough to build a few planes. Just start measuring with a ruler and over estimate
Foam - Closed Cell Polystyrene, what density did you select: 1#, 2#, or 3#? Oh. Saw the 1# written on sheet edges,
@@darrylk.230 1# good stuff
Air power over iac?
What adhesive did u use to apply the balsa sheeting to the foam core ? Last wing I did I used sig core bond don’t know if it’s still available.

Andy question, is this the first foam wing you are building ?????
@@jimcourtney4306 nope.....I've done at least 50 foam wing builds. First with my new bow
@@n1114v got ya now I understand why you are doing what you are doing and why , so what are you going to use for glue on the foam and wood ?
@@jimcourtney4306 gorilla expanding glue to attach the skins to the foam
@@n1114v be care full that stuff adds a lot of weight spread it thin it is some great stuff for foam wings
Those cutouts look great, I have never tried this, but maybe I should. Great planes in the Hangar 🫡
