AT 2019 and 2022 had the same color tag. 😁. I never wanted to remove mine from my bag… until I flew with it. Had to take it off then to keep it safe. Totally get why you’d want it with you on the PCT!
Any chance you have a link to thr carpet and rug tape? My kids can never keep their pads away from the tent sides and the reult is wet pads. Grrr
Thanks for the video. Though the first part is familiar to me, I use the Porter pack with added stuff sack and water bottle holder that adds up to plus 40 liters. What I learned from your tent set up is that the Duplex is designed for thru hiking, no comfort but just an overnight stay. Very important info. And if you want overnight comfort than forget about thru hiking. First time I've learned that lesson. Thanks. Always something new to learn.
I’m so happy this was helpful
Good gear choices!!! Good luck on your PCT hike! My big 3 is a 3400 Southwest, EE Enigma 20 degree Apex synthetic insulation quilt and a Duplex.
Nice
Honestly i have seen one and thats enough for me..........
👍🏼
Hey RR, have you seen Xero's sandals? I ditched my Crocs for them. They weigh less, are less bulky, and I can actually comfortably hike in them in a pinch.
I have not! Thanks for the suggestion
I'm watching a lot of PCT hikers complaining about condensation and frost in their "ultra light tents".
The solution is obvious. A double wall tent which is the extra weight of one liter of water.
Since, there is so much water on the early sections A, B and C, which used to be totally bone dry. You can sacrifice carrying 1 liter of water to make up that weight.
I think it's a small sacrifice to avoid waking up wet and miserable. Then having to pack up wet into your bag.
Then having to stop and layout everything for an hour. It typically takes a hiker about 10 days or 2 weeks of doing this everyday to finally make that change.
Luckily, there are many good outfitters along the way.
We have double wall tents around us drenched every morning and way heavier and longer to dry unfortunately
Solid choice of gear IMO, but why not get the foldable Gossamer gear pad? Slightly easier to pack since it's not round and very easy to use as a sit pad.
lol now you tell me…. 😀 too late I guess 😩
Have you ever thought of placing your tent pegs inside of your tent as you roll it up? They are in their own bag already and would be more difficult to lose . Just a dumb question from a viewer. Looking forward to your adventure.
That’s actually kind of a good idea
Hey RR, I’m not finding your Patreon info and would like help you with your PCT journey. Please post here or tell me where to find it?
Hi it’s in the video description all the way on the bottom
Hey I was trying to find your Patreon. What’s it listed under?
HikingDancer. It’s also in my video description at the very bottom :-)
My question on the ZPacks tent is whether using the hiking poles as tent poles over time might harm the adjustable poles or require constant tightening to keep them from slipping when you walk, or under the tension from holding the tent up in a taut pitch.
So I keep the setting and don’t change it as it works with my height, but that is a really good point you are making.
May your equipment provide you safety and comfort. Wishing you peace and good fortune. Happy Trails!
Thank you
The flextail also deflates a pad more than you could get it otherwise.
👍🏼
The real question is whether you will be seeing Mountain Laurel on this hike.
🤷🏼♀️
do you find you needed a pad under the tent with the duplex
You mean a ground sheet?
I’m excited to finally follow along as you hike the PCT. I watched your AT journey after the fact. The Zpack must be a tough piece of gear to complete an AT hike in a condition that you are confident of it making it through the PCT.
Welcome aboard!
I tied a Gossamer Gear Top Shelf to those loops at the top of the duplex. Makes a great place to put my glasses so that I don't crush them when inside the tent (which I did when using an outfitter's tent on Kilimanjaro last summer).
I'll try the rug tape idea on my pad. I hate sliding to the low point of the tent, especially when it's raining and I could cause water to drain from the roof into the tent.
Thanks!
Yeah the rug tape really worked for me
All excellent choices for you. Hope your shelter holds up for the entire PCT.
🥾🥾🥾
I hope so too!
Mt man here cold out side be careful chris roma just died in the white mtns sad stay safe n warm
Thank you . I’ll be careful
You're ramping up the excitement for your PCT adventure! Such great choices on your big 3. The Duplex is s great tent for the trail, just look for creative stake out solutions for sand and rock surfaces (and maybe snow this year!). That missing ice axe loop is easily solved using a 6" loop of paracord larkspurred to one of the ends of the bottom daisychain on your pack and another loop at the top of one of the vertical daisychains, your pack is perfect for using this older style setup.
Juliane just a thought about the pump. I could swear I heard someone explaining how their pump turned on accidentally in their pack, overheating and melting on things. Might be a good idea to have it in a place that prevents that from happening.
Oh thank you for the tip. One thing about this pump is, it needs two fast clicks to turn on. They might have added that to prevent from that happening again.
Can I borrow your itty bitty pump for a personal fan on hot days??? It’s what a friend would do for another friend🤪
get a sit pad for the PCT. You will need it. You can stash it in those orange cords
Just post your gear video. 20+ minutes about 3 gear items is onerous at best. Stop milking us for views please. Have a great hike.
The great thing about videos is you don’t have to watch them 🤗 I did give a warning about the 12 minutes about the tent soooooo 🤷🏼♀️ I dunno what else to say to that. lol!
I kickstarted the flextail and still haven’t received mine.
What? Oh nooooo
@@hikingdancer guess what came today…? 😜
@@justjonoutdoorswohooo, what do you think?
@@hikingdancer A pair of zero pumps! (One for me & one for my daughter.)
AHHHHHH... If it's under 50° I take a 4 season tent, which weighs more than this big 3.
WTG Roadrunner!
Thank you
Thats for the update, cant wait until you start. Im a subscriber 🎉 and enjoy the vlogs, thank you.
Awesome! Thank you!
I also love my Duplex. I love the sleeping pad hack. Many times I’ve ended up sliding around 😂. Excited for your journey and happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
The rug tape as well as the gossamer gear pad helps to not slide around
Great choices for your gear. Be careful with the Flextail. Mine just came in and the switch was floating inside the tube. They are sending a replacement. Just be gentle with the switch.
Thanks for the tip!
Definitely find a way to secure your ice axe, it will ride on your pack 90% of the time and you won’t want that bouncing around while you walk!
Thanks, will do
Awesome you’re still using the Duplex!
I love the tent
Why do people hike the PCT and feel like gathering with hundreds of others in tent spots? Then the feeling doesn't get to be completely alone in nature....
Hundreds? It usually depends, but the only time I’ve ever camped with hundreds of other people was trail days.
Excellent choices, I picked up the Unbound pack last fall. Thanks for all the videos. Your knowledge goes a long way.
Glad you like them!
Your choices all seem logical. The pump looks great for having as your 'luxury'. I have a different type and wouldn't be without it for inflating my Exped Down 7 mat when on sea kayak camping trips. When you are tired at the end of a day it is really nice to have one less thing to do when setting up camp for the night.
Thanks 👍
I'm definitely looking forward to this awesome adventure. 😉 and i know you're excited about this adventure, too. And i love your southern accent 🤗
Thank you!! 😁
Hi Julianne, I'm getting excited for you. Am sure you're feeling the same way. I know you still have a while yet. Will look forward to the next video. See you then.
Yes! Thank you!
New pack, new doodling opportunities! Starting to get excited for this next adventure.
Yeah me toooooo
Smart! Thanks for the tips 😊love the pump
Glad it was helpful!
Very good! Glad you have a hiking partner!
Me too
On the PCT trail and near towns there are some great hiking outfitter stores along the route just in case you have to make any changes.
My only advice that I have expertise is the trail umbrellas. I have wasted money on 3 different types. Most umbrellas are useless if there is any wind. The lightest gust will "flip out" the umbrella. You need either two hands or an elaborate harnessing method to your chest straps. The Senz storm umbrella is the only choice, and yes it weighs half a pound but it will folds down very compact. It's definitely worth it and can be the difference between day hiking and night hiking, when the temps go up.
I do have a gossamer gear umbrella but I’m still contemplating on whether to bring it
Maybe take it with you in the beginning.
Remember you won't hike long miles at start, so extra weight should not be a problem.
Then if you find you don't need mail it back home at the town stops, or give it up in hiker box.
Thank you for the hard work you put into making a video for Fresh Grounds and the Leap Frog Cafe! The kind and thoughtful words at the end were a special touch too! I loved it!!!! Aside from that... I'm also enjoying your channel and content and I'm looking forward to your next adventure on the PCT! Keep up the good work!
It is so kind for you to make your way here and leave such nice words. Thank you.
@@hikingdancer of course! 😘
You can barely contain your excitement!👏👏
In your nextQ&A, maybe you could answer this question: Since you love in FL, how do you train for the mountains? You have a lot of new and newer viewers. I think they would enjoy hearing the story and seeing some footage of that initial training. Please?
Are you saying you want to see me in a high riser doing stairs again?
@@hikingdancer why, yes, yes I am!😎
Good choice taking the Zpack Duplex on the PCT. I have one question that maybe you could answer for me as you have a lot of experience with this tent. With only an 8-inch bathtub floor that is screened into the tent sides, how much wind and or splash back do you get into the tent? Is the tent drafty in windy conditions? Thank you! Love all your videos!
The only splash I would get would come from one side of the vestibules. I never understood why it was only from one side.
Thank you Julian!@@hikingdancer
Getting so excited for your PCT hike.
I’m so excited to get started
I'm so happy you are able to do another thru hike!
I can’t wait
Nice video Roadrunner... Check out Rugged shark camp shoes from Wally world... Lighter than Crocs and just as durable.. I've been in a pair for 2 years almost every weekend...Happy Trails 🥾🥾
Looks like you have completely ignored my suggestion...I happen to know what I'm talking about since I'm on a trail 40 plus weekends a year.
I’m confused.
Will check them out
Awesome video I love that you don't just talk about stuff you fully demonstrate how to setup and use it , I was surprised to see how bulky the quilt was every one talks about ultra lite but doesn't show it so I thought it would take up less room than my sleeping bag how do you get it all in there
Glad it was helpful!
That quilt was in the bigger storage bag to let it loft and breathe. She will have it compressed to put in her pack. It will be MUCH smaller.
Very exciting actually.
Woot woot
3️⃣ here’s my big 3
That’s one big 3️⃣
Great Big 3 video
Thank you
Excited for you??
Yes??
@@hikingdancer yes!! Currently my physical challenges will not allow any incline. I love to forward start s half mile hike!
