My only interaction with the Angels. I was on a Motorcycle run in Nor Cal in the 90's. I was rolling joints on a picnic table at our camp site and an older Angel approached me about buying some weed. I just handed him 5-6 joints and said have a good time No Charge. He shook my hand and I didn't see him again until the following morning when he showed up with 2 giant plates of breakfast for me and my girlfriend. Sometimes it pays to be a nice guy.
As a kid in San Diego maybe nine or ten years old walking back from a little corner store with vinegar to dye Easter eggs a man came behind me and grabbed me by the neck. A Hells Angel walked out of a little bungalow and said you let go of that little girl. To this day thank that Hell's angel. We were eating at restaurant in Myrtle Beach (SC) a few years ago and there was a group of Hell’s Angels in there. On of the guys was a big older feller with a big long white beard and my daughter (4 years old) kept looking and pointing at him saying “daddy, he looks like Santa Claus”. I kept telling her “it’s not nice to stare and point baby” I DID NOT want to piss them off! Well he caught on to her pointing and he told us to come on over. He picked her up and put her on his knee and asked “have you been a good girl this year?” We ended up talking for 15 mins and they were the nicest people I encountered that week. They were super nice and respectful.

My husband and I went to NYC about 15 years ago. It was September 11 and we were shopping across from where the twin towers were. The area was still under re-construction. We heard the loudest engine noise, and then a steady stream of bikers (around 100 of them) pulled up and stopped. The lead biker held up his hand to prompt the group to rev their engine simultaneously . We spoke to a hotel concierge who told us the bikers come every year to honour those who perished in 9/11. We will always remember this.
There are so many ex military in the biker clubs these days, definitely a rise in actual biker clubs that are all ex military. They get a bum reputation but look at groups such as bikers against bullies and so on. In Scotland we have a ride out called the kilt ride, it raises money for charity, then there is thunder in the glen which started off with Harley riders and that's grown over the years. No doubt you can find both on here. We still have hells angels here but nothing on the size of American clubs

Thank you Flash! I appreciate your willingness to share your history with us. I think I just heard the most sincere recollection of the events that took place at Altamont. I was a little toddler then but my parents were there. I had some interactions with Hell's Angels when I was a kid. I remember them teaching me respect and how to act right. I also gained a lot of insight about people being around them. One thing I know for sure is they were more honest with me (and everyone) than nearly anyone I've ever known! No bullshit! Thank you to the interviewer too! Great history!
While I recognize that they’re outlaws, any HA that I’ve ever met in person has always been very kind and respectful. A group of 6 or 7 of them stopped at the same gas station I was stopped at with my 9yr old daughter last summer in the middle of nowhere Northern Ontario. I went into the bathroom and told her she could go pick out some road trip snacks. I came out of the bathroom and 4 of them were inside and were chatting with her, 2 of them standing by the door. It was very clear that they were looking out for the pretty little blonde haired, blue eyed young lady who they only saw alone in the gas station when they first walked in. There was no threat, just very polite men who were making sure she stayed safe while her mom did her business. They let us check out first, and then opened the door for us to leave. I’ll tell ya one thing…I’ve walked past groups of men and felt very uncomfortable but standing in that building with a bunch of bikers…l knew my daughter and I couldn’t be in a safer environment than that moment!
Although that’s a nice way to look at it, they were watching out for other OMG’s. They wouldn’t give a shit about you or your daughter if a rival OMG showed up.
I work with a few hells angels and a few guys from other clubs. They are regular dudes that smoke too many cigarettes. In fact I just bought a bunch of gun raffle tickets from one of them for a fundraiser for his son's trap shooting league

The only Hell’s Angels I’ve ever encountered in person were at my local bagel shop. Two of them, each 6’5 or 6’6 tall, were sitting at a table on a very busy Saturday. A small elderly woman placed her order and, having no open tables, stood off to the side. The two HA’s stood up and offered her their table. One even pulled the chair out for her. Wouldn’t want to cross them, but there are definitely worse people in society than HA’s.
Hell's Angels didn't invade Iraq or Afghanistan, leaving hundreds of thousands dead. The US government kills innocent people in addition to being wasteful with the lives of their own people.
@L_B914 Every political party of every government on earth has done far worse, but I bet you still vote every election. If you want to avoid the Hells Angels, you simply have to not seek them out. An ex of mine was a biker, with a chapter in Hawaii. In the mid 90’s He was friends with the VP (Hammer) and treasurer (Mike) from the San Diego chapter Hells Angels. @Tazmanian Bikers certainly are not bad. In fact, outlaw mc clubs often wear patches with 1% on them, indicating they are the 1% of bikers who don't abide by laws. The Hells Angel's have a VERY violent track record. Don't believe everything you hear on TH-cam. I suggest reading a book or two. Under Alone by William Queen is a great first-hand account about how horrible they are. Another great book is No Angel by Jay Dobyns.
Such a wonderful life! I could listen to Flash all day! I was born in 1961. During the 1960's, there were no helmut laws and no shoes were required. The exhaust pipe did run a little hot next to the skin. My dad had a beautiful Harley-Davidson and would take my mom every so often to Calaveras County in California for the weekend. At night, my dad would pull over and unroll their sleeping bags. One night, a group of Hells Angels pulled over to get some rest. They invited my mom and dad to sit in a circle with them out in an open field. Back then, there were so many brilliant stars in the night sky. Not to soon after the circle was formed, a joint was lit and passed around for all to share. My mom would laugh every time she told the story as she had never participated in such an activity before! My dad looked like Clint Eastwood and my mom looked just like the late Sharon Tate. My mom and dad said that the Hells Angels were so kind, respectful, protective and hospitable!

A truly outstanding interview with a True American Man. Much respect to one and all. I started riding in '84, second bike was a Harley and I have never looked back. Never was a clubber, but I understand Brotherhood and Fraternity. Got nailed in '87 by a left turning cager on my way to work, with a pregnant wife and not much in the bank, was down almost a year and got right back on. I found out who my real friends were, people I had met while riding were there for me and my family. That is the tie that binds. Motorcycles are not just a Hobby, they are a Lifestyle and these men are a true testament to that.
@trevorjones7450. But why does a "Small Part" of the 1% clubs have to include violence. I agree most of them have a pretty cool side about them but then there is that other side.
When I was very young I was walking past a bar where bikers hung out and a group of them went rolling past. It was an amazing site and it made me want a motorcycle. When I was 15, I got one and have never not had a bike since. I just tuned 60 last week and still love riding my bike.
I'm right there with ya man. I've always loved motorcycles, got my first mini-bike at 5yo. I remember riding around the yard thinking I was leading the pack. I met some ANGELS years later when I had my SuperGlide parked in the front yard. A few of them stopped, checking out my bike. They had a clubhouse 5 doors down. Even though I was very young, they took me in. They bugged out over night, after 3 years of riding and partying with them they just left. I missed those fellas
Full respect to Flash for this amazing interview and many thanks . I first saw the Hell's Angels England in 1977and it made an impression on me that is still there . Best regards Love and respect from an 81 supporter across the water 🇬🇧 B
The fact is, these guys are, for the most part, dishonorable, despicable, and dirty cowards who only engage in any type of violence if they have an overwhelming numerical and/or tactical advantage and thereby thrive on intimidation and institutionalized theft; very much like the police they purport to despise.
Love this interview. As someone who is very into 60’s counterculture and the scene in SF during that time, it was cool to hear his stories and relations with these people I’ve read so much about.
I was playing a show once at a local bar, when about a dozen HA walked in through the back door. They all sat at the same table about 20 feet from the stage with their arms cross just staring at us. After our set, they all stood up at the same time and walked out the front door. Not gonna lie, it was pretty intimidating but bad ass at the same time.
When in EMS I took care of an HA member who was in very bad shape...I got him to ER in one piece and he survived. They were very thankful to me...knew who I was...and always said hi or waved to me when I saw them in bars or on the road...even gave me an 81 shirt and hat.
When I was a young Canadian kid, we were camping at a KoHo Idaho campground. There was a pool and hot tub and a bunch of Hell’s Angels. They were the nicest bunch but I’ll say this, when our mom figured out it was them that we’re playing with us and throwing us in the water at our request, she nearly shit. We were probably safer with them than most of the other people there. Good group of guys.
I love this channel so so much. Real, raw and unbiased. Thank you so much for giving me such an inside look to so many different people. God bless you and them. 🙏❤️
Great interview gents. I've met more than one member in my life and was always treated with respect. The media has vilified the club to make people afraid of men who live by a strict code of brotherhood. I'd trust an Angel far more than any cop who's motive is power over us civilians. If our neighbourhoods had an Angel living amongst us we'd be far safer than we are today. That's a fact.. Blessed are those who protect the women and children.. Much love and respect to you Flash.. May you always ride with pride. 👍
There are not many people that would be able to do an interview with this club, but obviously you have gained their trust. Great interview, as always your work is impeccable.
20 years ago this was true. I think now they are trying to remain relevant. Seems like there are a lot of them out there doing movies, interviews, etc. It's not like he is Hunter Thompson.
What a great interview....his recollection of the Altamont concert is intense and real....an older cousin of mine around the same age as this guy was a Hells Angel in Hayward.....He was a badass and so kind. He taught me how to fist-fight when I was like 9-10 years old, in order to defend myself from bullies in our hood in San Leandro. He taught me how to use/shoot guns. He was such a big influence in my life during those years. Him and his Hells Angels buddies, along with Sonny Barger, would drink at the bar my dad tended at in San Leandro. Sadly, my cousin is now gone. But that generation of the Hells Angels were good guys for sure.
I ride an old Ducati and when I pass a bunch of non MC riders on Harleys I always do the biker wave and they ignore me. I met a guy on the road on an old shovel head and he looked like he was part of his machine, like he’d been riding for months and I gave him the wave, he waved back. That’s a real biker, he didn’t care I’m riding a basket case Ducati, he saw the shared interest in what we love.
It's funny isn't it, alot of us would only ever ride fast bikes, many of the Upright-Eddie riders would only ride Harvey's and other UEs, but car drivers still don't see either of us 😆 We should be brothers sane as we are inside our own groups
Sometimes the guy on the very end of the line of Harley’s will wave so nobody see’s lol. My first bike was a Harley which later I traded for a different bike. After I got the other bike I didn’t get the wave anymore.. traded that bike in on another Harley, started getting the wave again lol

It's way harder to keep the patch then it is to get it especially in this guy's generation. There's a ton of politics involved. Lots of respect to this man
It says a lot about our culture today, when a guy who has been a member of the Hells Angels, for decades, says that he liked the 1950s, "when your kids could walk to school without worrying about getting robbed, mugged or murdered. And you could leave your door unlocked in front of your house." I completely agree with him, and would say it was the same in the 1960s as well. Shows that a Hells Angels has the same concerns as anyone else and see the bad changes in culture, like everyone else. Might surprise a lot of people.
Yes but they also liked the fact that you could get away with a lot more back then! There was a lot less surveillance, less cameras, it was harder to wear a wire etc. I know a former leader in HA, and there’s a lot of backstabbing and betrayal! There’s a lot of jealousy within the club, and the money is the biggest problem!
@WriterandPhotographer. That might be partially true but you still get a lot of bad behavior from 1% clubs even tho this behavior is among themselves. Humility is not among their traits and our kids need to have humility in order to forgive others that have offended us.
I grew up in a small town in NW Indiana in the late 60's/70's. The Invaders MC were often seen either riding thru town, eating at the local restaurant or coming into the store where I worked. No one was scared of them and they were always polite when they came into the store.

You're giving me chills. I've seen that too! Rolling -F-IN Thunder!!! Never Forget! Matt

Some of the top leaders in the SS were Jewish, and they highly respected ALL races.

Maybe true. But a good leather jacket costs as much as most suit jackets.
Soft white underbelly is one of my favorite TH-cam sites. Through this we are permitted to learn things about people from all walks of life. Regardless of what the people have done they all have a soul. They were once a child and somebody loves them regardless. Thanks, Mark for reaching out to the people and being bold enough to ask the questions you do.
This was a great interview. Years ago, one of the very first interviews I conducted when I first started Razor magazine was with Sonny Barger. I met him at a motorcycle shop in Minneapolis where he was doing a signing for his book. I was treated with the utmost respect by all the club members there that day and Sonny was kind and welcoming. I was invited to a gathering at the local clubhouse later that evening and again was welcomed and treated kindly. I remained in contact over the years and have nothing but the kindest of experiences to recount.
Thanks for sharing Flash 😀 Hi from southern Sweden . I have Grown up with a few of the men from the Malmö club that became the starter club in Sweden. I also drove a long Pan head chopper of the same year yours engine was. It was buildt in 69. I am glad you enjoy your life. The only freedom we will have is on the last ride out of Midgard 💚
Great content Mark and I've watched many other vids you have posted and since subbed to your channel. This is what the ATF, DEA, and every other agency/bureau have drilled it into peoples minds that all MCs are "gangs". Thank you Flash for sitting down with Mark to share a snippet of your decades long experience and journey with the HA, and for politely correcting Mark on the HA not being a "gang".
Motorcycle clubs are not street gangs.
@@joem1102 No but they get infiltrated by true gangsters. I believe he mentioned them in the first part of this interview. Hmm . . . kinda rings a bell.
Especially the ATF but also the DEA are gangs with badges.
@@TCW838 absolutely. I'm guessing ICE plays a big role as well
I've met many a HA member and they were all great guys, but make no mistake that HA, gang or not, is a criminal organization of epic proportions.
What an awesome interview! Thank you Flash! Thank you Mark!
I grew up around Flash, his Brother Bobby and his kids and I can honestly say Flash is a good guy. It was wild growing up around the club and Flash and his brother were people I only have good memories of.
@Thomas-ed4cl. I think he mentioned that 2 of his kids are in the club.

1965 immigration act
@WriterandPhotographer. That might be partially true but you still get a lot of bad behavior from 1% clubs even tho this behavior is among themselves. Humility is not among their traits and our kids need to have humility in order to forgive others that have offended us.

I grew up in a small town in NW Indiana in the late 60's/70's. The Invaders MC were often seen either riding thru town, eating at the local restaurant or coming into the store where I worked. No one was scared of them and they were always polite when they came into the store.
I grew up with bikers and fisherman. I love these men!

I really enjoyed the interview with Flash. You see someone, than actually take time to listen to them and you get a whole different perspective of the person. Just to think he been with them for 56 yrs. I could only imagine the amount of change he has seen in the club.
I remember him from History of Choppers. Much younger then. Good to see he's still flying the colours.

Not a single question was asked that Flash wouldn't answer. That speaks well for both the interviewer and the interviewee.

1973, I was 4. In the national forest south of la my dad was deer hunting and the angels ran off a bunch of dirty hippies walking around our campground naked. I had 3 older sisters that were early teen and pre teen. When my dad got back, him and my mom cooked all the food we had brought for the weekend. We fed the angels as a thanks and then we got out of there. My parents passed a few years ago and for her entire life my mom always spoke well of them and publicly defended them. I've heard many stories of their street justice. They have my respect.
This man is living breathing history! Wow! That sums it up
