I was a CNA right out of high school and I quit about a year ago but I have to say hands down it is one of the most rewarding jobs. Even without the best pay, or even lack of appreciation sometimes, at the end of your shift you always knew you made a difference and that was one of the best feelings. It’s a relief to see someone have a legit hardworking job alongside youtube, it’s really refreshing honestly.

I was a CNA for 7 years. I will finally let my license to expire this June.
You're absolutely correct, this job makes you think differently.
I work in a Nursing Home that is an Alzheimer's/Dementia unit. Yes. It is a sad job. But honestly, I laughed every day with those elderly people.
But don't get me wrong, not all seniors are kind. Assholes get old too! Haha!
I know I'll miss it, but my back and feet wont!
Commend you greatly for your work. You know you're over worked and underpaid. Physically and emotionally draining. Not everyone can do it! You are full of compassion and empathy 💕

I was a CNA for almost ten years. It was the most rewarding (also difficult) jobs I ever had. I started in the worst of the worst conditions. Very few CNAs and difficult living conditions for the residents. It challenged me to grow in so many ways and I always gave the best care I could. I ended at one of the richest places anybody could end up. But the end is the same for everybody. I fell in love with so many people and it was always hard watching them go, or watching their minds go. It was beautiful getting a glimpse of them every once in a while. This job may have ruined my back (permanent sciatica ugh) but it was the most rewarding experience of my life. I eventually had to stop because the work took a toll on me and I also now living with two chronic illnesses. To all the CNAs still working today, the pay might not be great, but always give those people you all and know that to some of those people, you are the sunshine of their day!

My dads health declined these past couple of years. He used to live in my town but he lived by himself so he moved to Los Angeles with my half brother. Then my half brother just decided to send him on a plane by himself to Oregon where my other half siblings live. Then they decided to put him in a home over there. I live in Cali and I rarely see him, but I hope the nurse aids are taking care of him. I’ve heard horrible stories about the abuse and stuff like that. I'm a cna, 17 years old. The worst part about the job is when the weather gets so bad and you can't make it to the nursing home. It makes me want to cry. Most nursing homes are understaffed and the residents don't even get the attention they deserve. A lot of people don't even want to volunteer because they believe that when you volunteer you have to deal with the residents on the toilet or something. That is OUR job as a cna/pca. We will do all that. You can help in the kitchen, set up tables, and simply just talk to the residents etc. Volunteering is making a difference.

I was an in home CNA for a woman that I use to clean her house for. She was always grateful and thankful for such a young lady like me not being shameful for giving such a helping hand and making her feel comfortable like I am family. I cared for her as much as if she was my own grandma. It got to the point to where I told her I love her everyday and didn't mind cleaning her naked body, or being patient while she barely walks, or to even dress her up. I must say I was always mature at a very young age and was always grateful and saw things differently compared to my peers. Usually this would've open up my eyes, it didn't but it did remind me not to take life for granted especially my parents. It's scary thinking of getting old and wondering who will help you. Although I helped her, she also helped me.

It‘s so crazy to realise how different working as a nurse in the US and in Switzerland is. I am learning to become a nurse and I only have one Patient because I‘m kinda new but more than 8 Patients is not normal at all for a nurse that’s in the hospital! We don‘t have to learn how much of each material we have to use if we can reason the usage. Basically it‘s also really hard because at the place I work we always have a lot of patients that can‘t even leave their bed and have cancer... but it is like soooo different to your situation.

I’m a nurse and just graduated nursing school in May of this year.... listening to you talk about being tested on all your skills is giving me major PTSD 😂 I know the struggle!
My very first clinical rotation was in a nursing home. We were new to nursing school, so instead of having us shadow the RN’s right off the bat, they had a follow the nurses aids.
I got a little heated when you mentioned that some of the aids are impatient, rush, and skip steps. Every. Single. Nurse Aid.... at this nursing home was impatient like that. It made me so sad and so upset to see how it affected the patient’s moods and their quality of living. Nearly every patient was miserable and it just broke my heart!! It’s refreshing to hear you say how much you cared and how detail oriented you were when you worked there. I know there are plenty of nurse aids/CNA’s who care like you do... I’m not saying nobody cares... but at the nursing home I was assigned to... not a single CNA had your attitude or outlook and it was just so sad.

Nursing aid is a tough job ! I work in a nursing home as a COTA and i love it. Every morning i do my “rounds” and greet everyone and give hugs. I also ask the questions about life. They are so lonely everyone dies your family, your friends, everyone!!! It’s so sad. It’s a reality check for sure. It changed the way I see life for sure.

ill never forget when one lady pulled off her briefs with her hands covered in shit and looked at me and said “i shit!” with the biggest smile on her face... also there was cheerios in her toilet but she didn’t even have teeth? so we didn’t know where the cheerios came from ? being a CNA is a wild ride

OMG, Alana!!! I absolutely love you and all of your stories and love your dedication!!! Your stories had me laughing many times. Especially when the patient farted in your face (sorry)! I'm so proud of you! I hope you have reached your goal. I noticed this video is a little over two years old. Who ever gets you in a hospital is so lucky!!! God bless you and best of luck in the future!!! Thanks for the video, the silly faces, the hilarious stories, everything! Truly the best ever video that I've seen of someone explaining what they do as a nursing aide. P.S. I LOVE YOU TOO! And you are gorgeous too!!! Would love if you were my daughter.

i became a CNA right out of high school as well. I felt like she was hyping the class up a lot. its honestly just common sense stuff and the only new thing I learned was doing the blood pressure. For anyone trying to become a CNA dont be discouraged its actually super easy.
The hard part about the job are nursing homes and having a ton of residents assigned to you to get up in the morning and some days you are understaffed or a resident is pissed that theyre awake but you have no choice but to get them up. I think nursing homes should always have extra staff or floaters as help during the busy times.

We’re so similar! I work as a nurse tech and i have a bachelors degree in biology. Originally i wanted to be a PA ( but it’s super competitive here on the east coast specifically in the tri state area) and while i was working i fell in love with Nursing instead. I start an accelerated nursing program in a couple weeks at Rutgers!

Hi Alana! I don't really comment on your videos but i love watching them.
Anyways. I'm myself is in nursing school to become a CNA and I've been working with old people in a home service thing for 4 years now and absolutely love it. But the thing is, I'm from Sweden and the whole system is different from the USA. Having 4 weeks in education sounds so weird to me when in Sweden, it's 1 and a half year plus with 3 internships to really get to know the practical things you have to do and learn how to do them and having the chance to ''work'' in different places and then the mentor puts a grade on it. And we have to take a lot of courses to finish our studies as well and to be able to become CNA's (sometimes it feels like we're gonna become trained nurses because of everything we need to know haha).
And also over here we often have a maximum of 8 people each to take care of, and this is a lot over here and something we complain about being too stressful so i can't even imagine how 16 is working out?!
It's crazy how much it differs between countries but I agree with you, it's an amazing job and you gain sooo much from it, even though all the disgusting things that happens isn't the funniest to deal with and the shitty pay you get for the job. Also not having enough time for the people that needs help and service is in my opinion really sad too. Even though I know that the CNA's is always trying their best to make everyone as comfortable as possible. But it's hard work, it really is.

    • @Alana.Arbucci
      @Alana.Arbucci  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Wow a year and a half that is very interesting I guess things are really different like you said and yes we do not have that rule of 8 people max lol. But I wish you all the best, thank you so much for the support and for watching and I really hope you continue to kill it in your classes!!
