Fanmade theme I created for a character in the webserial known as Worm. I hope to do Regent next, followed by Skitter, perhaps.

That's the reprise
Taylor is a surprisingly inspiring character. Most people are inspiring because they do something you find awesome, but Taylor is inspiring for doing what she had to do regardless of how many blows she took. Every step of the way she did what she thought she had to do, when she could have just sat around eating chips and occasionally beating up an unlucky mugger. She came so far. Sure, there were missteps, and sure, she was dumb, and sure, she did aweful things as well, but regardless of what she became, and regardless of what she did, she kept going. It usually wasn't in the right direction, but she still kept going.
Her mistakes and regrets were awful but she continued on and she never gave up besides she had no official support outside of some teenage villains and zero knowledge of the truth of the world she was always being forced to react to worse and worse situations without a real break I guarantee you that over 90% of people in her situation would have given up or tried to join the 9 she is an inspiration because she continued on to do what she believed was necessary regardless of cost accepting that she would be viewed as a monster

It always amazed me how Taylor went from timid bullied and emotional girl to the (essential) the greatest hero and the worst villain of all. How she grew as a person, how she struggled and how she fought. Her sacrifices. I love reading that moments when you as a reader realise that now this girl is so much more than just a regular person.
Thats what i call "character development".
The real character development comes from the realization that she went from victim to the *ultimate* bully - she bullied God to the point of suicide, what else can you call it?
By the end of it all she was not a person, or human. The moment when everyone is celebrating after Scion dies and she thinks they're still fighting because that's all she knows now that the Queen Administrator is all thats left was the most potent gut punch in any piece of media I've ever seen.
It wasn't that she was too timid. It was that she expected someone would step in and help at first then realized she couldn't do what she *really* wanted to do then powers basically meant she wasn't in the mood for the birdcage for going carrie even though she was tempted
Once there was a maiden,
Who endured everything
Others saw this as a weakness
So they struck her again and again
They took her joy, and she endured
They took her friends, and she endured
Until she did not know anything but endurance
She met others who told her that she could be better
She met the grue clad in dark,
She met the tattletale laced in secrets,
She met the hound on the hunt,
She met the regent with all his arrogance
And later she met the imp with it's cackling glee
"You can be better" They said
So she became something that skittered in the night
Fear and ruthlessness became her sword and shield
Hope and trust her armor and cloak
And she ruled with these by her side
"None will ever suffer again"
Said the enduring maiden
But she was wrong, for many would suffer
And she realized that what she was, was not enough
So she cast away her ruthlessness
And shattered fear against hope
She clad herself in trust
And armed herself with hope reforged
She was bound with the expectations of the many
But made them into her armor
She met many more again,
"Darkness sometimes hides a sun" They said
And she met the noble chevalier, his armor bright,
And she met the magnificent fairie queen in her court,
And she met the defiant, standing proud against opposition,
And she met the mighty dragon, it's wits sharper than it's claws,

And she became a weaver of destinies
"The few will protect the many"
Said the redeemed maiden
But the savior, the first turned upon them
Spurred on his way by the lost and the damned
By chaos and by nightfall
Much was lost, and many fell

The maiden who wanted to protect cried out in sorrow
"I have failed" Said the maiden
She once again took up ruthlessness
She cast off the expectations
And hope was cast aside for control
She met none, for there was noone to meet
She was joined by the scheming angel
Whose motives were not known to any
Not even itself.
She took up a weight
And in one bowl she laid life
In the other, she laid death
Their weight was rebirth, and her crown was the sun

This was it. Finally, everyone was working together.
I find myself really liking Necessity as a title. It is really evocative of parts of Taylor's journey.
I found this theme when I was half way into the story and didnt get it, today I finished it and I have to say I agree with you a lot
I can’t look at that fanart without thinking about the end of book 1/arc 8, when Taylor and Lisa are looking over the city from the monument at Captain’s Hill, contemplating everything that’s happened.

I was reading this exact part when this song came up! It was matchmade in heaven
I love it. Its funny because it has such a strong community and fandom but I always have to remind myself that Worm is still a very, very niche thing. I always get amazed there's not huge amounts of fan music, videos, analysis and so on. I really hope one day it caches on and more people become aware of its existence. This music is one step towards that, I think. It's really good, and could totally see it being used on some fan videos. I really hope you do more of it.

Taylor Hebert Started as Vigilante, Became a warlord, fought as a hero, and died a monster... Such as cruel end to her story, but this song seems to... resonate... all that Taylor is at her core.

I've always thought an appropriate theme for Skitter would start like a soft, calm orchestra, then slowly mold into a hard rock or jazz rock. Each new instrument growing louder, and more chaotic as it progressed. Starting with the flutes, representing Tattletale. She would be followed by the steady, strong beats of drums, Grue. Then the string instruments in her orchestra would start to play more to their own beat, snapping and biting back for Bitch. Then Regent, being a wild card, would take trumpets and try to make it a jazz rock. Slowly they each take and turn this quiet orchestra into a commanding force, each of their instruments and personalities aligning to make something more fearsome than themselves. The progression of Taylor, a weak girl, into Skitter, a monster, a villian, a leader.
And imagine it would use some sounds of insects

If worm get a animated show like invincible one day they need to pay you to make the music this is amazing

Very fitting of pre-cape Taylor. Very powerful, very versatile, but yet to go anywhere specific. Wonderful, but with that overarching sensation that something is fundamentally wrong. Maybe not even just something, but everything is wrong. Either way, this works incredibly well.

Ealonex I trust it will. On my first listen this seemed... oddly passive, perhaps fitting for the preparatory period before her first night out, but then it seemed awfully appropriate for those rare moments of peace and tea. Now I can't help but shiver at the eerie juxtaposition of the calm against her enemies' terror, and look forward to other guises' themes.

This is so impressive. A sinister march signaling the approach of Skitter, though with an undercut of hope that she has not yet lost her way entirely.
This song is perfect for Taylor because it is somehow so strong and yet so sad just like she is. More than that it makes you think of tough decisions and difficult times but also the inner strength to endure them, again just like Taylor.
It's honestly a perfect encapsulation of her journey as a whole, like I can picture every version of Taylor in it! The hard-decisions-with-tears-in-your-eyes vibes are real

This really encapsulates a lot of Taylor's character arc - the sacrifice, the control, the sense of absolute unflinching duty to others. I have no idea how you did it, but Necessity really feels like Taylor. I listened to it while reading because it just fit so well!
I finished worm about a week ago and i have to say, best web novel out there, i can only hope we see taylor again, i know that in the ending she found her "peace" sort of, but i really just want to read about her future.

SAME! I just finished last week and I'm in the same boat.
I love this. So much. It's so very fitting. A melancholic yet foreboding march into darkness with a bit of a hopeful undercurrent for her good intentions, as well as the escapism cape life proved to be from her daily march as a civilian. Then bits where the hope is silent, and just the march remains. To me that signifies her moments of genuine wrong, like the mayor incident. Not to mention the march quieting down slowly, leaving the hope, which fades out as she becomes a genuine hero and then eventually is taken off the map completely. Stellar piece of work, It made me tear up a bit, it's so beautiful, and I feel it genuinely deserves to be directly associated with Worm.

If I had to assign this to "one of the" Taylors in Worm, I'd give it to her during the brief period when she was part of the Undersiders and they were still a gang, instead of warlords. She was starting to grow confident, but was still meek little Taylor.

It seems like it could also work well as a theme for critical 'wrong things, right reasons' moments. Especially moments of rationalization. The uncertainty and twisted vibe seems like it would complement those ideas nicely.
Oh wow, I didn't even think of that? That's genius! The quieter bits at the 0:54 mark reminds me of the whole rationalizing thinking processes certain anime heroes do during their battles; I can kinda see this playing during something like those scenes, thanks to your ideas
There is a passage from Rainer Maria Rilke's "Letters to a Young Poet" that always sticks with me when I watch/read good fantastic fiction:
"How could we forget those ancient myths that stand at the beginning of all races, the myths about dragons that at the last moment are transformed into princesses? Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love. "
Again, this passage hit me shortly after writing the other threads to realise what it is that haunts me so much about the Parahumans duology.
Knight, Queen, Princess, Dragon - the basic schema of a chivalric romance - which superhero literature is the modern iteration thereof.
And Taylor and Victoria get to be all four.
The compassionate but vulnerable Princess, the stable and wise Queen, the dashing but reckless Knight, the fearsome and powerful Dragon.
Taylor starts as a Princess (helpless at the hands of Emma and co.), becomes a Knight (as "undercover" Skitter), then a Queen (as a Warlord), then a Dragon (as Khepri), before finally transforming into a Princess again. Victoria is a Knight (as Glory Girl), then a Princess (in the asylum), then a Dragon (As Antares), then finally a Queen (on Patrol Block), who dispatches more Knights.
The cycle is complete. Man, this is a good structure to think of when you're writing your own superhero story.
Differeng songs for her different identities. This Taylor. Next is skitter. Then weaver then khepri. Khepri being a maddening combination of all of the above showcasing her loss of self.

Just found this, played it, thought of the locker scene, burst out crying.
Bueno fue una gran travesía me prometi que escucharía este tema cuando terminara de leer la obra y hecho esta realmente me esperaba algo genérico o algo parecido a invencible, pero con esas cosas edgys oscuros con eso de que la protagonista era adolescente y tendría que enfrentarse a peligros o seres 5 veces más fuertes que ella mientras intenta ser heroína, pero que saldria mal fallaria haciendo que todos crean que era una villana volviéndose involuntariamente en una por su apariencia o actos accidentales, al final casi nada se cumplió (y casi nada porque las 5 veces más fuerte si entro) pero eso no es malo más me sorprendió en todos los sentidos y esquemas la forma de moldear como reconstruir el mundo de superhéroes desde otra perspectiva, de una manera ingeniosa pero sorprendente (y no me esperaba que existiera un género de superhéroes en el mundo de la literatura que no sea comic xd) es agradable ver que aún hay creatividad en el propio género por ahora esta obra es de las mejores que he visto en el mundo de literatura, no es una obra maestra como tal (ya que me disgusto algo que se desperdiciaran el potencial de algunos personajes terminando muertos antes de saber algo de ellos o hacer algo importante, pero tampoco es molesto) pero es impresionante la forma de innovar de esta, de como logra una completa inclusión de personajes sin ser forzada como debe ser (cuál se necesita actualmente con todo el artificio de los medios actuales que se usan más para vender) como también te hace dudar moralmente de algunas cosas si el fin justifica los medios y el desenlace del último arco como también el arco final que es completamente satisfactorio de leer que definitivamente haria temblar el final de infinity war, pero ya es suficiente.
Es hermoso ver lo fuerte como unico que es este fandom (algo loco lleno de crossovers-bizzaros pero únicos) y de como rayos no haya sido aun adaptado esta obra hace tiempo (o en este tiempo que es una buena oportunidad) que si cae en manos correctas podría ser más grande que the boys, invincible e incluso los propios marvel o dc es literalmente un tesoro oculto esta novela, solo les deseo a la gente del fandom de worm o bueno de wildbow lo mejor para el futuro que algún día en serán reconocidos y ese día seran más grandes que nunca .

Bach's Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor would probably fit very well. It starts with a very slow bass, and gradually builds through a few escalations into a grand moving thing that is unstoppable.

damn, that's some amazing aliteration, honestly! 5 times? also it's not exactly snow, it's supposed to represent the light and dark morality she sorta has (grey morality ahaha). if you look really hard, you can see black snow too.
Yep i noticed that black snow and i was just like... okay then because i listen/watch this a lot the black and white seem to fight over what occupies the screen at some times also thats a really nice detail like disappearing imp.
Hey, I dont know if you still check comments on here, but I first found your Worm fanmusic on Spotify while searching for themes for my OCs. I had no idea what Worm was at the time, but I enjoyed the music regardless. I’m now reading Worm and I have to say… this is perfect. A relisten of everyones themes really awakened my third eye hahaha. I’m far from finished, though, I’m only on Colony haha. Your work is very good and Ive added some of them to my playlist. :)

A wonderful piece of music I'm only finding now since I just finished reading worm and am starved for more Taylor content. This whole piece perfectly encapsulates the downward spiral of Taylor into Khepri and how she couldn't stop until either zion or herself lay defeated.
Worm and zombie knight are some of the best web series out there but you almost never hear of them on youtube

I am astonished there’s not more Worm fan music...a very nice theme. I could see it play over a montage of Taylor making her costume, dealing with Winslow, avoiding Danny, basically the prep arc. Have you considered making a dedicated playlist of your Worm music?

Ealonex how long do you think an animated series would be? Would you think one episode per chapter, meaning 300+ episodes? Or would you condense a couple chapters at a time into one episode? Either way if it were to happen (fingers crossed) it wouldn't be under 100 episodes
Actually, I think 64 episodes could work... Like FMA:B did. On the note of chapters per episode, the length of the chapters increase as Wildbow kept writing. Some of his chapters in Ward could be full by themselves (like Dot's Interlude). But in Worm, especially in the beginning, I'm thinking 3 episodes in we'll have gone past Lung, ep 6 ish would probably be the bank robbery. I dunno if that makes Worm too fast paced, though. But re read the first chapter in Worm; it's pretty short. I don't think it could fill up an entire episode unless you take bits of other chapters in as well.

Still my favourite of your songs. It really sets up the feeling something big heavy and important will happen. The name of the song fits perfectly to describe Taylors character throuout the whole story.

Skitter. Weaver. Khepri. The Villain, the Hero, and the Deicide. All these monsters, from the girl who lost her mother, and was betrayed by her sister. She is the Queen of Escalation, crowned in the blinding light of the Gold Morning. Her reign was short, but for a time she was the new God this cruel world had made.
