  • Super Hybrid Napier (Pakchong 1) grass is evolved from the Thailand. It is the best grass for animal feeding as well as for biogas(cng) production. It has the special characteristics. Fast growth; high yield; best nutrition, all weather friendly growth and easy storage.
Super Hybrid Napier Grass is a good energy source. Napier grass is especially high in potential dry matter yield, making it an excellent choice for this process. The grass has high digestible organic matter content, is also an excellent feedstock for anaerobic digestion. Napier grass is one of the most promising grasses available for large production in tropics and subtropics. Napier grass is categorized as lignocellulosic biomass, with its carbohydrate composition typically consisting of 35-39 % cellulose, 19-23% xylem and 15-19% lignin on a dry mass basis. Due to super Hybrid Napier has significant cellulose and xylan content, Napier grass holds promise as a viable source for bio-CNG production. When its structure undergoes hydrolysis, it breaks down into monomeric sugars that can be utilised as substrates for microbial activity.
Super Napier Hybrid Grass has 62.3 per methane content. The tests were conducted in collaboration with Biofics Pvt.Ltd a CBG plant installation company based in Surat, Gujarat. Through these experiments, it was discovered that with a 24-hour microbial pretreatment, 100 kgs of the grass yielded 6 kgs of biogas, which had a 62.3 per methane content. Through these experiments, it was discovered that with a 24-hour microbial pretreatment, 100 kgs of the grass yielded 6.0 kg of biogas, which had a 62.3 % methane content. Alternatively, when the same feedstock underwent a 24-hour pretreatment with 1% NaOH, a slightly higher yield of 6.5 kg of biogas with 61.5 % methane content was obtained. Conclusion: From both the studies, we can conclude that microbial treatment and chemical (base) treatment were required to obtain a higher yield of biogas from Napier grass. For producing higher green forage production per unit area and time, we should have to follow the good package of practices of Super Hybrid Napier Grass.
I have 25 years experiences in All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Forage Crops (ICAR) at Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat, India from 2012 to 2006 so I have the expertise in cultivated forage crops including Napier Grass. Moreover, I did PhD in Soil Science and having 50 years experiences in soil health evalution, forage crop production & forage quality and fertilizer recommendation for higher crops production. I have given brief good package of practices of Super Hybrid Napier for producing maximum forage production per acre. The Bio-CNG production is dependent on the feedstock of super Napier grass. We should required sustainable forage production of Super Napier grass for a longer period as Bio-CNG plant will be run for a longer period (10 -20 years) so that we should have to plan accordingly so that we can obtain constant fodder quantity of Napier Grass daily, yearly and for longer period for better and economical recovery of Bio-CNG production. Therefore, those who have interested to install BIO-CNG project solely/partially on Super Hybrid Napier Grass, use of Super Napier Grass for Bio-pellets production and feeding of Super Hybrid Napier Grass for Gaushala/Panjrapole animals, they may please be contact to me.
