    Having a sense of what's pretty good for cheap is wonderful, for a back-up knife you throw into the centre console of your car, as your back-porch/garage workshop beater, as the blade component to an emergency kit you don't want to break the bank on. I understand as a hobby, a lot of youtube focusing on 200 dollar multitools and 800 dollar custom folders, but it's good to have reviewers out there as well, analyzing what's good for the price for a beater or a back-up. Because they're not just collectables, they're tools!

      As an addendum, the carry option limitations of the fixed blade's sheath here are basically meaningless if they're in an emergency kit or a car back-up or a tool-shop back-up because you're not really worrying about the long-term external carry on those, they live in a bag or a box or a drawer. So the usecase mitigates those flaws.

    Mora has always been a great budget & additional tool for rookies. You have two knives that caught our eyes. The fixed blade & Divergent, good backup when trekking & camping or even "users" as it is known to prolong the high end cutting tool. Cheers mate.

    I have the Scramble and it sharpens just fine on my fixed angle sharpening system. Recurves being difficult to sharpen is a thing of the past.

    That Divergent has tempted me for a while. It's a holdover from before the "Alpha / Beta / Delta" division they created last year. The design is too cool, but I think that's why it's not in Aus10. There are a couple of models of Inert, and I've been very tempted to pick them up. Nice to have a review of one.

    Love my Divergent at the $25 I paid. Action is super and way better than either of the Kershaw Heist models I have owned at half the price. Yea I know AUS 8 is no ones favorite but Schrade has a pretty good version of it. Mine takes a razor sharp edge easily and although the edge holding power is on the shorter side it sharpens quickly and takes a fine edge.A great knife for anyone who is frustrated sharpening some of the modern super steels. Hard to deny that it is easy on the eyes and a pretty good design. With 14C28N or even D2 blade steel it would be a great knife even at a bit higher price. Gonna have to try the Adder for a budget pocket fixed blade.

    I happened to go to a Tractor Supply Co at the beginning of this year and they must have been getting rid of holiday gift stuff so they had a bunch of small tools/knives/flashlights on clearance and I got an Adder for $8.
    I'm usually uninterested in a fixed blade that small, but AUS-10 for that cheap I figured I'd try it. It's been a handy little utility blade, though I agree the belt clip is not good.

    I have the Inert CLR. It's a slim gentleman's looking half serrated tanto. It has Zombie green color accents like the liners, etc. AUS10. Really smooth opening. I also have the Shudder you show. It's a good truck knife or something to EDC in a backpack. There's a cleaver style one called the Frontier, it's really smooth opening. One of my favorites is the Artillery Outback, assisted, half serrated. AUS10. Smaller size. It's just a good work knife for me, for what I use it for.

    For $16, the Schrade Adder in AUS10 seems quite the deal (but I haven't actually used mine). I have a video about it if anyone wants more details.

    Wolverine mini should've been in this list tbh. Also, I've been using and hand sharpening knives for decades and never had any problems with AUS 8 (or 8cr) ever. In real life scenario and heavy use they perform exactly the same as magnacut lol.

    Something like a slim 3.3 ulti clip on that fixed blade makes it a great carry and frees up the pockets . I usually have a BM hidden River fixed snapped on but it goes to a 45 degree Kant and basically disappears . Doesn’t matter the knife except the 2-3” blades 7” overallcarry best that way for me

    I dont carry knives in the pocket just like that anymore. It's too close to a large, one minute and you're gone-artery. A scary sharp blade once opened and started poking me when I was about to sit down. Luckily I was thinking faster then moving and didnt cut myself. I use thigh pocket if I can and I added a piece of cord around the tip. Highly recommended especially if you carry a tip-up knife where gravity wants to open it

    Have you or can you do a video about knife steel and what kind of steel to look for in a folding pocket knife. From affordable like these to mid range? I know you said Aus 10 is better than Aus 8 but what about other types of steel?

    Schrade comes up with of some amazing designs and then they tank on the steel choices. The Schrade Wolverine has far more appeal than the Adder IMO. They also tanked the steel on the Wolverine too. 😔….

      @brendan1062 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rodrigoruiz976 Tip up carry makes it so that the knife is in the right position to be opened and used out of the pocket. For tip down you have to flip the knife around. Plus usually people prefer where the pocket clip sits against your hand when its open, it sits in the swell of your palm instead of getting in the way.

      @@focusonthefocus yeah they very successfully collaborated. Then the company changed hands, and the 3rd run went horribly wrong. They changed the grind from saber to hollow (on a large chopper) and the heat treat was abysmal. Basically they overcooked the steel. Between those two things they were all breaking. He bought like 12 or 13 of the 3rd run and instantly broke all of them.
