Glad to see some new content. These items are way out of my league. I was recently pleasantly surprised to find someone offered an upgraded stylus for the lp60x! Anyhow, got a WiiM Pro for Xmas and am completely enjoying it.
Holy crap your channel and your system have grown so much, and yourself too of course! I remember stumbling upon your channel when it was just new, you were starting out with vintage stuff and thrifting for Schiit (pun intended) lol Looks like your audio system has surpassed mine quite a bit! I'm more of a set and forget type of guy... been running the same stuff for a few years now, except a tonearm upgrade I got last year. Btw, damn that Ayre is sooo nice! That's actual high-end equipment worthy of the name!
Nicely done as always. I'm staying with my Mk 1 Remton Audio 383 tube phono stage. I believe it may be part of my end game system, but with this hobby, who knows! Happy New Year to all and happy listening from Scotland. Jim🏴🙂
Great review I'd like to try the Kitsune in my setup but only it has no XLR outs. Right now I'm using Whest PS30R has Balance outs and does everything right I may send it to the UK for an upgrade
Another great video! If I am not mistaken, and I may be, I saw the small stand mounted speakers behind you at the Capital Audio Fest back in November. I am hoping you have a review of those upcoming soon!
Interesting video. Just before you reviewed the Puffin I was doing research on it & your review was the tipping point for me to buy one. I have been happy with it but, am a bit disappointed that the new Waxwing costs less & that the prices for used Puffins seems to be going down. I realize that one can never be sure about a piece of audio gear holding its value or not. I went to the Waxwing website & it doesn't seem as packed with info as the Puffin's was. The big change is remote app control, which seems nice but, most of the time I just change the settings on my Puffin when I change records. I am not sure if it's performance has changed much otherwise. If you do a review on the Waxwing I would be very interested. Keep up the great work!
Dave, nice vid. I enjoyed it. I tend to be streaming more recently. My 50 year old records are in terrible shape and my two dacs are amazing. I have a Geshelli J2 (btw we met and chatted in their room at CAF) and a Ladder Schumann r2r and they’re both fantastic. But when I do play records, I tend to use the internal phono pre on my vintage McIntosh preamp. Since the primary source were LPs I’ve always thought their phono sections ought to be pretty good. It sounds really good on albums I haven’t killed.
Thanks for covering a phono preamp! I share your appreciation for this under valued piece of equipment. I am looking for an upgrade to my EAT eglo petite (about the same price range as the Kitsune). The dip switches on the Kitsune, though, are a turn off for me. I had those on the Vincent PHO701. So much more convenient with front switches on the EAT. One of the big factors for me is soundstage, which opened up when going from Vincent to EAT (with VPI super prime scout and SoundSmith Zephyr MIMC* cart). I am considering the PrimaLuna EVO100 Phono. Have the EVO300 pre and like that. I also have the Holoaudio May DAC L2 (not the full Kitsune edition), so appreciate their approach. Have to look a bit more into this LCR architecture. Had not heard of that. Sounds similar to a R2R DAC philosophy like in the Holoaudio May DAC.
Looks like you have some nice stuff. Tim Connor at Kitsune says they may not be making any more of the LCR-1, which is a shame. They have a couple remaining in stock. Thx.
@@MODAC I quite happy with my set-up, indeed :-) Just looked at the LCR phono stage. One thing that jumped out at me is top R value is 200 Ohm. I know my cart sounds best at 600 or 1200 Ohm, lower settings are very lean and tinny. That 200 Ohm limit is a serious design flaw, IMHO. On the upside, S/N metrics are exquisite. I still cannot quite figure out what this LCR tech really does. It's all coated in lots of funny buzzwords without giving any actual information. That is really a shame. Cannot even figure out what LCR stands for. Thanks again for providing food for thought!
Hi! Thank you for this video! I have the Rega Planar 3 2000 with Linn Adikt cartridge through the Parasound P6. Is there a better phono that you would recommend. Looks like the Parasound’s Zphono XRM is similar with the one in P6. And I’m not sure if I should upgrade the turntable or get an external phono preamp. Honestly, the P6 sounds good, but in this hobby you always come to ask yourself “can I get better?” :) Thank you!
Nice to see a focus on external phono preamps/equalizers👍👍 You are spot on in terms of investing in a little more expensive gear to extract as much sound improvement as you can without breaking the bank. I bought a Sunvalley EQ-1616D tube phono preamp that allows me to hookup two turntables. One I use with a Bob’s Devices Sky 40 SUT and the other TT with a recent purchase of a Lounge Audio Copla silver wire edition much like a SUT. They both work well with the various MC cartridges I own. Nice work Dave👍👍
This was great. It's so refreshing for us analogue guys to FINALLY see a phono preamp review. They are rare. I am soooooooo burned out on these endless dac reviews from other reviewers!
Hey man. Your channel was quite unique when you started it was well honest but now sorry to say it but you appear to have become another salesman or using your “influence” to acquire hifi at discounts or free which is fine I guess but also a shame. The internet is full of so called experts promoting products in just about everything right. I mean its a shame coz your channel has lost the special feeling that comes from the presenters only motivation being the desire to share their love of something and not influenced by financial gain.
I appreciate your comments, but in reality you are just talking nonsense. I am still sharing the love and my “financial gain” is minimal in the extreme. You are making gross assumptions.

I am not surprised ,this componenet did match well with vintage gear, one my systems is a vintage one Marantz 7b and a Marantz 1060 ,
I have the Parasound and what you said about the sound is accurate. Thanks for the suggestions which were not on my radar.
I'm getting one this week. I'm so excited.
Fantastic. They are making more!
Thanks for a great review …..keep em coming. Appreciate your reviewing real world stuff. Thanks

I have a puffin...love it. It replaced my Schiit Mani.

Thanks. Yes, review of those speakers coming up next.
Nice job, thanks for the video

I do explain what LCR stands for in the video. Thx
I’d love to try b4 I buy

So all ya’ need is the HaloMay Kitsune DAC to match 😉
I have the Holo Spring 3 KTE!
@@MODAC You lucky 🍀 bastard 😎
I love your YT channel but I have a question: Did you send the product back, or did you pay full retail and keep the reviewed unit?
Why do you ask?
Because I'm interested in an upgrade over the built in phono preamp in my preamplifier. And I don't want to be played by a YT video. @@MODAC
@@user-bc6ok1yh4s my friend Ross from the video is probably going to buy it. Thx.
Have you heard of the Lounge Audio LCR phono preamp?
I’ve read about it only.
@@MODAC Hey David, I might be interested in some of those LPs (if they're OG).
@BlackAndWhiteBand they are mostly reissues. A few OGs.
@@MODAC Are the Zeppelin LPs OG?
No. Keeping those.

How would this compare t the Manley Chinook SE?
The Manley has tubes and is twice the price. I’ve not used it, so I have no idea. Thx
