    This is really fascinating and I had no idea this mingled culture of Greek and Indian influence existed.

      Not Indian it’s Pakistani in the Kpk province the gandharan genetics are closer to the hindikowans ethnic groups not Indians they are named after a colony

    Excellent, an amazing cultural epoch. The lack of English language literature on Gandhara, the Paropamisadai and Bakria is finally being filled by new research. This was very interesting.

    Since 'J C' in the comment section brought it up, lemme just share something that most people don't know. The Ancient Greeks learnt the Art of Architecture from the Ancient Egyptians. There is absolutely no doubt about this. Egyptologist Amelia Edwards proved it in her amazing work 'Pharaohs, Fellahs and Explorers', published long back. The Greeks learnt it from the Egyptians. The Indians learnt it from the Greeks. From Ancient India, it spread to various parts of Asia.

      @@jarvis5085 No it isn't. The Indus Valley civilization is a Bronze Age Civilization that existed from approximately 3,000BC-1,300BC. Meanwhile Gandhara was inhabited around 1500BC.

      @@Carnage1998tm thanks for the Intel.I wonder how a man called Budhha had such an great influence that in gandhara civilization they made his sculptures and idols.
      People say he was normal man who achieved enlightenment.But why is he portrayed as a god in all this sculptures?
      And again people here in India says that Hindu is the oldest religion then why no sculptures of Hindu gods are found in archeological survey of Indus valley civilization.

    What a lovely thing that the fanatic Pashtuns, who would actually be the very descendants of these peoples, treat all this unique heritage like utter shit. I'm not surprised that he said some of these pieces are destroyed.

      The pashtuns arrived much later in the Gandhara region, around the 15th and 16th centuries from western Afghanistan, the region was more hindko/dardic and indo aryan was spoken in thr swat valley until pashtunization

    Slight mistake in inclusion of Hinduism. None of those statues have anything to do with Hinduism. They ( Indra, Brahma, Vishnu ) are strictly a form of story telling in Mahayana Buddhism. Ghandhara was a hub for Mahayana Buddhism.

    I wonder why Northern Pakistanis like the Pashtuns and Afghans have Mediterranean Physical type features? Because they look different from the rest of Indian Subcontinent people. They do have Greek Blood in them?..

    • @Alakhana
      @Alakhana 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No not Greek blood, North Pakistanis have a more pale complexion compared to Greeks and there’s Afghans and Pakistanis who have coloured hair and eyes while most Greeks have dark hair and eyes. Greek DNA in Pakistan is mainly found amongst the Punjabi’s and Kashmiris as well as Pashtuns and can be as much as 15%.

      @@Alakhana You may be surprised to know that I fully agree with what you say. Having said. that, you are the one who shows prejudice. I don't agree with colonialism, I am an Italian educated in Britain, only because speaking and writing in the English language as you do, opens the world of knowledge sand transcontinental communication.
      What I would like to say to you is that Alexander's design when he set out to conquer the Persia, or the Iranian speaking world, he intended to open the way to a cultural syncretism and thus generate a universal civilization. His program was successful because the Western civilization to which wee all belong now, is the result of Alexander's conquest, The fall of the Greek and Roman world, was followed by this syncretic civilization that it is the global civilization to which we want to belong. Alexander founded 17 Alexandrias in the far East and these caused a syncretism by adding to the Greco-Roman civilization, Indian, Persian, Chinese, nomadic elements that generated the world we all adhere to.The fact thst yopu speak English, probably drive a car and use a.computer is the tangible evidence ow w hat I say. I published a book explaining all this and it was. written in English, in order to reach people. of any provenance : Giovanni Caselli: "Orient Express and the Making of the West", Blogging books, Germany 2015.
