Great video! Sad to see such a nice crossing being removed, but then again 7 trains in one lowering is a ridiculous amount of time for the crossing to be blocked (must be some kind of record). Certainly seems like a waste of money installing e-bells and new LED lights when the crossing is going to be removed anyway, I really liked the sound of the old hybrid bells.
Thanks. It was pretty ridiculous, when the 3rd train came I thought surely the boom gates will rise, but no another train came, and then another, and another... you could even tell the patience of all the car drivers was wearing thin! It DOES seem like a waste of money, but I'm guessing they pulled down the crossing to do night works and couldn't get the old fragile infrastructure to work properly again when putting it all back together
It's crazy how much the Caulfield to Dandenong corridor has changed in such short amount of time! I've noticed most of the crossings have new cross bucks, LED lights, folding boom gates and new gate mechanisms. Clayton road even got a 3rd gate mech added, I assume because wishbone folding gates aren't much shorter than a normal gate, so they added a new gate. I think it still has the Hybrid bells as well! With all the left over equipment that PTV will have when all 50 crossings are gone, they should make some crossings quad crossings. Station street Seaford could really benefit from a quad crossing imo.
It's difficult to figure out why they would be going to all that hassle to change the bell tones when the level crossing is being removed. Similar to going to the trouble of painting the interior or exterior of a building that's going to get demolished.
They've been doing some strange modifications to the Dandenong corridor crossings as part of the Skyrail works. Like at Heatherton Road, were one of the cantilever arms was removed. Centre Road looks like a joke now (and it was already a weird set up to begin with). They also modified Clayton Road, Murrumbeena Road, Chandler Road, and Koornang Road. Chances are, Poath Road and Grange Road have been messed with too. I remember when they were removing the Springvale Road crossing a few years ago, they removed the gate mech in the median on the north side of the crossing and replaced the shoulder Westinghouse gate mech with a Safetran one. Comparison of the said crossing: Aug 2013: www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.94877,145.1528978,3a,60y,193.37h,91.1t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sH5ov3tt3CZgfHMZ-6mDbLw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 Oct 2013: www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.948796,145.1528941,3a,75y,193.37h,92.98t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sNZWA_YEjTjof_xg4gofUPg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
Yeah it's pretty crazy! I'm thinking of going down there again to check them all out Good find with Springvale road. Can't really blame the decision, 3 boom gate mechs would've just been too complicated for the crossing. It also looks like they put a newer hybrid bell (or a repainted one) on the shoulder boom gate pole. The old picture shows two bolts were screwed in to the bell while the new picture has one bolt... and the bell seems to be glistening in the sun.
Henry Lu Here’s the sound of a General Signals Type 3: th-cam.com/video/NXYFmSYd4aE/w-d-xo.html Here’s also one in conjunction with a Type 2: th-cam.com/video/HkMMre30wck/w-d-xo.html
I used to always get stuck at this crossing for ages so glad it’s gone .
Awesome Video Also there is a crossing near Lara that still has Westinghouse hybrid bells
Kkajkaj
Despite Murrumbeena Rd being five trains, I can't believe how this is seven in one activation

Actually, it was Centre Road that had the 3rd gate mech added.
TrickyMario7654 aha close enough, I'm terrible with road names..!

Corrigan Road Noble Park is on the Cranbourne And Pakenham lines but is nearly removed
Bell 1: Westinghouse Holland McKenzie teardrop bell / Westinghouse Holland Hybrid bell
Bell 2: General Signals Type 3 e bell
piktureit is
3:44 that horn sounds nice!
5:05 what's that new bridge for? is for new train tracks?
Melbourne Metro is weird about upgrading their crossings!
They're grade separating this crossing, so they're putting a bridge over the road for the new rails. Pretty much what you said
Hardly any hybrid bells left on the Pakenham line?
No, there's plenty of hybrid bells between Dandenong and Pakenham.
But who knows for how much longer :P
Great video did you see that guy who always pushes a Jeep he’s always there like a traffic cop

11:15 what the hell is that sound when the gates went down
It's heard in one of the other clips, so it's most likely a bird... an Australian magpie, maybe.
Australian Crow, Magpies have a different call.

piktureit That sound when the gates went down was a crow quarking its head off.
Also that type 1 e bell sounds weird on that crossing
Aidan From Aus Those are General signals type 3 e bells, not type 1s.
