Had a smile on my face almost the whole time. If you’re not a metal fan you probably won’t fully understand but overall fun movie, coming of age. The cameos at the wedding were great!

What? 3.4 stars at best, including the epic soundtrack and acting stuff. I think they could have pushed the plot further, battle of the bands is a cringy cliche I didn’t enjoy, but everything else was above mediocre

This was SO nostalgic for me! I remember how fun it was discovering heavy metal as a teen and being at the school's rock band ( we sucked but it was real fun ). This movie made me smile and I teared up from feeling nostalgic. Totally recommend 🤘

@@jlobiafra that's exactly what I was thinking right now, As a drummer my self i thought It was a bit weird how he went from nothing to being a very decent player in 2 weeks, but I get that the technical aspects of the music werent really the focus of the movie lol

This movie gave me so much nostalgia! Bringing back fond memories of being in school playing in a metal band, and meeting my wife who also played in a band (still together 22 years later!). Honestly this movie nails it, but it also has really real and relatable characters that carry the story. Loved this, thanks for giving it a greenlight!
Told all my friends about this movie after I watched it. Was pretty good if you’re into rock/metal. Kind of like Scott Pilgrim meets School of Rock. I’m pretty sure the actors all played the instruments themselves as well. Emily was brilliant in this
It just goes to show that metal is enjoying a great interest today having done something like this but it never went away. That’s why it has endured as both a musical genre and subculture for over half a century.
There was always that lone metalhead in school who was like these guys. In the case of my high school, that was me. Now in my 40’s, metal is still the empowerment of my life.
I think this film is going to go down with the likes of Heavy Metal Parking Lot, This Is Spinal Tap etc.
Loved it. An innocent flick that felt good in these current times that put us through the ringer like a machine of torment.

This deserves its OWN SHOW!!! Even if you were someone who doesn’t like metal. This movie has such a great storyline and I could really relate to it, it feels so realistic instead of a gossip teenage drama about unrealistic stuff that wouldn’t happen in real life 😭my favorite part is when he gets all dressed up (hella funny lol) and the concert too❤

But some of the references are weirdly inconsistent with the characters - Hunter recommends Opeth and then loses his shit over the idea of letting a cello audition in the band because he's a Bay Area thrash kid. 😂
As someone who is obsessed with metal to the point where I could give hunter a run for his money, I felt very validated by this movie haha

@@Yukiidevil i'm pretty sure the drummer and the guitarist are playing themselves - the drummer had a double just for the double bass drum scene, but the guitarist has been playing since he was a child so he did the playing himself. don't know about the cello tho!
They arent playing HOWEVER, they were coached by professional touring musicians Hence Tom being the music producer.
Honestly the movie is way better than I expected, I love the characters so much, and the movie in general, the music obviously is also amazing
this was so unbelievably good. at first i thought it was going to be cheesy, but it was really great. and i am not a person who would have probably ever considered watching a movie about metal. but, this changed my mind. it was comedic, unique, and just overall something that you don't usually see in other movies now 'a days. i really really hope there is a sequel to this (or they make it a series!) i don't usually laugh easily, but this did just that. hunter's i-don't-give-a-fuck attitude, kevin's quirkiness, and emily being a mixture of both of those combined is just so perfect. i would love to see more, and i'm sure other people do as well. please continue this!!

This movie reminded me of my high school days. Wow. 1991-1995 all over again.
When we started in March of 1992, it was very similar - I was on the drums and my old friend Mat was on lead guitar. The only difference was that Mat would have hurt those jock kids! He was a ruffian of the highest order. The irony is that he's now a middle school math teacher in an affluent district. We were heathens from Auburn Heights, MI!
Sadly I'm the only one still active musically. I'd love to resurrect that mighty metal band again one day.

All I can say is that by 11th grade we did a battle of the bands at the Rochester Hills Skating Center in Jan of 1994. We killed it!
During our performance Mat's rig died and our singer asked the crowd if they wanted to hear a drum solo. I wasn't prepared for it, but did it anyways. I remember after my solo I had one foot in my seat and one on my bass drum. Because they need light to fix Mat's rig I could see the kids in the crowd. They were chanting my name and pumping their fists. By the end of the night I was signing autographs, and adults were telling me I was one of the greatest drummers they ever saw.
We beat a band with guys in their 20's. The judges gave us second place (the first place guys played well, but their singer's mom was best friends with the event organizer..), but we got first place for crowd reaction.
Earlier that day I had come home with a bad report card. My Dad threatened to throw my drums in the garbage. My mom gave me the keys to her car, told me to get my drums and get out of the house!
Dad was there that night. One of his work client's son was the drummer in one of the other bands (Andy Cyrulnik who later played in Factory 81). I'll just say that Dad let the report card slide. It was that night Dad realized I was ok at the drums.

I got together with Mat, and Jamie who sand and played rhythm guitar last summer. Jamie still had it, but Mat let his playing go.
This was actually really good. Enjoyed all of it, the soundtrack especially.

I agree. I was watching this trailer, several times. And, I started laughing when the older gentleman was telling the guy, "take off your costume, Crusty the Clown." And, the instructor telling the bandmember, "You can't say that in America."
This is going to be hilarious. Because I think the really good funny stuff, are the ones they didn't show, in this trailer.
Most comedy film trailers, rarely have me laughing. And, when I end up watching the movie, I end up NOT LAUGHING.
I think this is going to be a winner.

@@ianraguse6455 I disagree. Besides, this is a movie. Not a show. And, it's just a trailer. Because, I remember when Game of Thrones dropped their first and only trailer for season 1, in 2011. I was like this is "MEH"!!!! I've seen a lot of better trailers than game of thrones season 1.
But, when season 1 of Game of Thrones was released, it started it on it's way of being a worldwide phenomenon.
With that being said, don't judge the movie by it's cover. Just watch it first. I think it's going to be extremely good.

It never left, it went underground where it stayed except for well known bands like Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Pantera but the true kvlt metal heads know about Venom, Kreator, Belphagor, Dark Angel, DEATH, Mayhem, Burzum, Sodom, Exodus, Nuclear Assualt ect. As for metal making a comeback, the USA is obsessed with pop and rap music, it will never make a comeback like how it was in the 80's, you want real metal go to Europe.

Gotta say, this took me back to my teens - fully committing to metal and learning guitar with my best friend. Some of the jokes are quite niche if you haven't had that experience. Best part for me was when Joe Manganiello's character gave the dude a big stubby guitar pick 😂

as an old, life long metalhead, this made me well up. Looks absolutely brilliant and intriguing and like the movie our genre never asked for but now finally got and well deserves. I am going to be all over this like a rash

I watched the movie and it reminded me so much of my first band.
It was just me in drums and Mat on lead guitar. We formed on his 15th birthday, March 18th 1992. That's summer we got Jamie on vocals/rhythm guitar, and Mat's step brother Jason on bass in Seprtmber.
The movie totally hit me in the gut, bringing back all those memories.
The only thing I would have changed was not getting lured away to other bands, and taking us farther in the business. We were pretty good for a rag tag bunch of metal heads from the wrong side of the tracks.
Metal makes everything better. Opening the trailer with Bach's cello suite was nice.

First movie I see that actually features real metal and is about real metal, that isn't a documentary. Story could have been handled differently in my opinion but as far as the metal music it is entirely on point.

Is it just me or is her character spiritually more metal than the two "metal lords"? Every bit of Emily screams metal except for her clothes. My guess is she'll be tbe 3rd band member they never knew they needed and she'll end up on bass. She already plays the cello and as we learned from School of Rock, flip it over and "CELLO", it's a bass! 😆
i think its kind of supposed to be the point that shes more metal than them, and how metal is a state of mind and a way of life, rather than just what clothes you wear, ya know?

Cello has either not enough sustain when you pluck it, or too much when you bow it. Also, they're tuned differently: Bass ascends in fourths, cello in fifths. Bass goes down to E, cello goes down to the C above that, although Georgie Born, a cellist, learned bass to play in Henry Cow (not a metal band at all, but musically very challenging), by tuning it like a cello but an octave lower: C-G-D-A. However, cello run through overdrive and sub-octave pedals and played with a bow, is going to sound purely NASTY, and metal as hell.

It was worth watching just for the scene where he learns to play drums by practicing Black Sabbath (War Pigs) for two weeks non-stop.

I wish this was series. It could have inspire more kids nowadays about metal. It is also relateable for metal fans kids since the other band in the movie plays pop music, and it is what the world is right now. But so far, it was a fun movie. I was always smiling watching it.

Its unfortunate that with the main character wearing a large a Slayer patch and the drummer wearing a Slayer t shirt that they did not use that band in the soundtrack.Still looks like a fun movie and hopefully inspires a new generation of Metalheads.
This movie reminded me of 1994 when I have to save money to buy my $300 drums and tried to play Megadeth with my basist body from high school. A lot of nostalgic times emerged in every minute of this movie, also this 3 young actors nailed to the point of almost believe that they really know how to play the songs. Another good detail I want to point is that the production don't project metal heads as airheads, morons, etc. like many other movies does. Well done to all.
