It's so nice to see how you're both enjoying Andy being home. He's a goofball but we love when he's in your videos.
My husband does not care about clothes and wouldn't notice if half of them disappeared from his closet. That may or may not have happened in the past 🤭😉

  • @Nan-59
    @Nan-59 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Would you first off, please tell your husband “thank you for your service, sir!”
My dad was a veteran of World War II. Memorial day 2005 I took Dad to the memorial day parade. He was not walking well, by the. Parkinson’s. He walked with a walker but for longer distances, his portable wheelchair served him well. So, we brought the wheelchair because I really wanted to take him to the parade. We hadn’t been to a parade together since I was just a kid. I was around 50 then. He would’ve been 80 years old at that point. He died December 15, 2005.
All that to say, when the veterans and enlisted men and women marched in the parade, my proud Marine dad saluted the militaryen & women the entire time they marched by us!
It got me so incredibly emotional, I could barely contain myself. My tears were just flowing like a river. Even thinking back on it, its emotional for me! It was just so moving and I was so struck in my mind, with what he went through during the war. The dear comrades that he lost. Just Everything!
When I was a child and it was time for bed, my mom would nightly read me a story, out of a book. But, when Dad would tucked me in at night , he would TELL ME stories. Dad always enjoyed telling me stories about the huge ships that he sailed in. The different countries he visited, and different things like that. He WAS would talk about being on the ship, and the enormous waves 🌊! He wanted to be Marine, for sure, so he enlisted. So he was never “drafted”. He was in before that. Honestly, did very well for himself even though but he enlisted before he was even was able to graduate from high school, because it was the war time.
My older sister came along when I believe, he was employed. I don’t remember exactly how it went down, and now I am the oldest. Everyone, my sisters and parents have died. I’m not sure if my dad was here when oldest sis was born. but I don’t think so.
But nonetheless, Dad was gone and when he got back from the was oldest sis was two years old! I think she “may 😊” have been a “bit” spoiled, because my mom and she had lived her ENTIRE TWO YEARS with my mom‘s parents. Money was tight of course! It was war time.
So, when my dad arrived back home from war my oldest sis, BEING A 2 year old, didn’t LIKE DAD! honestly, she didn’t even know her dad of course, as a little two-year-old child.
Well, oldest sister did something that was inappropriate and naughty! Dad gave her a Tap on her BEHIND! I often wondered if she before then had one look of discipline whatsoever. We’ll never know. So after our dad disciplined her, THAT CHANGED
E V E R Y T H I N G! She went from not liking him whatsoever to he was her best friend, all of a sudden! She couldn’t get enough of dad!🥰
It just goes just told me goes to show that children need to be disciplined, in the proper way of course. Do you thrive with the rules. They want to know they have boundaries because that tells them that the adults in their life care about them.
Anyway, that’s my longgg story. Taking Dad to the 2005 Memorial Day Parade, will ALWAYS hold a very special place in my heart! Saluting all the soldiers was just something I’ve never seen him do because I just hadn’t had the opportunity. But I’m thankful I did that day. It told me a lot about his love for his country and his fellow man. I didn’t have any kind camera with me, but that’s actually okay. The picts are in my memory bank! I have found that when I don’t take an actual picture I remember the scene vividly anyway. Sometimes when I get caught up and taking pictures, I’m not really experiencing the moment.
It was really a very beautiful day, in every way.
Thank you again, for your service to our country! I really do appreciate it.
    Peace

Quick tip: cut off the sleeves of the shirts you are turning into rags asap. You can use them to make masks and this way the shirts won't magically end up in a laundry pile and back into the closet! (I've been there. Multiple times.)

Seriously, if u ever renovate, consider how space would function if you needed a walker, or a helper in the bathroom. It can seriously increase the amount of time you can stay in your home. From an aged care worker.

    • @StillWatersASMR
      @StillWatersASMR 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Greatauntlizbeth G in all honesty this house would be TERRIBLE for an elderly person so realistically I wouldn’t be able to stay here THAT long (VERY steep stairs, slopes and steps between living spaces and bathrooms, etc, and it’s an old converted farmhouse which gets REALLY cold really easily), but I do have my eye on the bungalow next door which already has an elderly resident and so has already been suitably modified. I wouldn’t need a removals van, just a wheelbarrow 😂😉 it’s my dream retirement option. We’ll just have to wait and see how things pan out.

I loved this video. Firstly, I’m inspired for us to tackle our closet together (something I’ve been putting off for a while). Secondly, I know the feeling of not being “settled” while renting. My husband and I separated in 2009 (now divorced) and I had to start almost from scratch, going back to renting after owning our own home for many years. I met my new partner online and we’ve been together for a bit over 10 years. We rented a couple of different homes while we built our business and raised my boys, then spent 2 1/2 agonising years looking for a home to buy together. We finally bought our home at the end of 2016, moving in 2 days before Christmas. It was such a relief to be in our own place and we have been gradually renovating/updating everything (which has taken longer than planned - one of the reasons holding some projects up is my need to declutter/downsize my stuff). I know my main issue with struggling to get rid of things has to do with a lot of emotional baggage that I haven’t dealt with... I know I will get there, it’s just a process and something that is different for everyone. I’m so thankful for wonderful vloggers like yourself who inspire and motivate me. I can just imagine how smoothly your upcoming move is going to go now that you have reduced your belongings by such a great percentage. Now you can look forward to having everything wonderfully organised while you start afresh in this new period of your life having your hubby at home each night with yourself and the kids ❤️

I met my Andy on eHarmony too!
I can't get mine to do that though, he has literally 3 times the clothes I do now, and typically only wears 30% of them! Still as long as they don't expand further into mine and my daughter's areas (We keep all our clothes in one room) then he can keep them 😁
You're ploughing through everything now, you're going to feel so light when you do move! I found my anxiety levels dropped when I had less stuff to deal with, and cleaning is a cinch now too.
My biggest change, which had the biggest impact on my mental wellbeing was to clear the space I can see from my bed, and keep it clear. It's worth the effort every evening before bed to make sure it is clear so I wake up to a clutter free space, and generally I don't let stuff pile there anymore anyway. Psychologically, even though I know there may be other things to sort elsewhere, having that clear space on waking allows me to start the day with clear head space.
As part of the journey I'm following a cleaning process called TOMM (The Organised Mum Method) you set a Rota and clean to that. It's taken a little while to get into but the house is feeling so much cleaner all the time with very little effort, plus no cleaning on weekends! I'd recommend looking into it.

The fly lady method is similar and you tackle areas in zones on a rotation basis for a set period of time to begin with and then things move up a gear so to speak. I also really like Sophia from My Great Challenge, she has spent a good few years tackling her de cluttering and she has used the fly lady method too. She is really nailing things at present after a difficult year. I will check out the TOMM method too.
I'm fairly new to your channel Erica but I like you and you explain your thought process really well. I'm an ex military wife with no children and I think you've done amazing well to do what you've done, especially as you only revealed recently that Andy was deployed I had no idea, i just kept thinking I know military men are busy but surely he could make time to help her🤔....take it all back😂
You guys have done a great job working as a team working through what is left and organising a plan for the move. Your new house looks lovely, looking forward to more videos to see how you style and organise the space. I think this house is going to feel a lot more homely and I think your going to get so more permanent pieces of furniture that you can take with you next time.💗🇬🇧

For going on ten years I've rented the efficiency apartment where I live and while I'm so thankful to have it, it's a residence, not really a home. If circumstances were different I'd get a larger place. Too I'm in my late 50's and am at a time when I see that living alone isn't such a great arrangement. For a variety of reasons such as cost and health/safety issues I wouldn't mind sharing a place with someone else. Maybe that's ahead!

I met my husbang on eHarmony too in October 2010. We met in person about 4 days after starting to chat, and we deleted our accounts a couple days after that. I could have never guessed my first ever online dating experience would land me the man of my dreams, but it did!
    Congrats you two! :D

I have MAJOR control anxiety and my mom would always take my stuff and throw out things that she meant I did not use and such. This caused a lot of anxiety that I struggle with to this day and so I just want to give a reminder to everyone, respect your children's things and do not take their stuff without having their approval.

A helpful tip for when you move your clothes to your new place: take a drawstring garbage bag and scoop a section of your clothes into the bag from the bottom to tie it at the top from the hangers. You then don't need to worry about taking your clothes off the hangers and can transfer it easier to your new closet. 😁

And dresser drawers make great boxes for things. Put the clothes in bags like you suggested then pack the rest of the bedroom stuff in the dresser drawers, cover in paper and tape the paper on. Leave the drawers out, load the dresser onto the truck, then slide the full drawers into the dresser & use blue tape to keep drawers secure.

That closet declutter went so effortlessly, when I helped my husband do his side of out closet, it was like pulling teeth, he said I was heartless, it took him 10 min a clothing item to decide, where I have developed a declutter muscle, he always says he is glad I keep him 😀😀😀😀😀😀

If you have old shirts you like but aren't good for wearing anymore I suggest making reusable bags out of them for grocery shopping. It allows you to keep the sentimental item and not use plastic bags at the store. There are many methods but I like cutting little slits all the way across the bottom (and sides if it's too wide) and double knotting them all together (front fringe to back fringe).

Lucky you with your husband willing to get rid of stuff. I am a minimalist in heart, but my husband is not. I organized his closet once. Not trashed- just organized, like t-shirts with t-shirts, pants with pants. He didn't speak to me for a week!

You guys are so cute. I've never heard of the 20/20 rule before, but I've certainly operated with similar ideas. The only problem is that when I actually try to repurchase, it never works out that way for me!! Also, I'm not sure I own a single article of clothing I could replace for under $20 in 20 min. Maybe socks, but I use them too often to declutter! I'm not saying I spent upwards of $20 on all the clothes I own--I thrift a lot. But when you're thrifting, you can't necessarily find any specific item very quickly.
